Litetouch Deployment Fails after updating to MDT 2013 update 1

I  hope someone can help me out.

I had updated our MDT Server from 2012 to 2013 update 1 to enable for the deployment of Windows 10 in our organisation.

Everything was working fine before the update but now every deployment fails.  If I use the task sequence I created before the update, the deployments fails, using a new task sequence the deployment fails as well.

I get the error below:

Using the configuration manger trace tool, i checked the SMSTS.LOG but seems to have no information on why the deployment fails.

See logs below..

PXE booting UEFI systems with secure boot enabled?

We are switching from USB boot media to PXE for Windows 10 deployment.

We need UEFI and secure boot to be enabled, but the systems won't accept network booting when secure boot is enabled.

How do you get this to work?  Do we have to disable secure boot and then go back and re-enable it after booting?

Strange deployment behaviour.

I've setup a full deployment environment following the book guidelines "Deployment Fundamentals - Volume 1" (Arwidmark-Nystrom).

I made only the following change: the bootstrap.ini include only domain name (so username and password are needed to continue). I was able to deploy without problems the images to our test PC. We would like to start the deploy in production environment but I need to generate automaticallyu the name of each PC. For this reason I setup the stored procedure found here but as far as now I was unable to make it work and I even found the reason !

But I cannot fix it; basically the procedure cannot connect to MDT database because it tries to query it using local administrator account (!) instead of the one I've passed at the beginning of deployment (a domain account with privilege over stored procedure). When the OS deployment is finished, in fact, the user logged in is the local administrator (I was expecting instead the domain one used at the begin).

Any ideas ? Why it's using local admin?

MDT 2013U2 produces corrupt boot image

Hello,

We have a customer who is a year away from upgrading their server environment and would like a Windows 10 SOE. Their main server is an SBS 2008 virtual machine.

We created a basic deployment share based on Windows 10 / MDT 2013 U2 but WinPE simply hangs forever on the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit background screen. There is some CPU usage at the first minute but then nothing.

Looking at the WinPE instance's BDD.log it ends with the following lines:

I noticed under System Requirements MDT supports 2008 R2 at minimum but I was wondering if that's indeed the issues and if there's any way to get this working at all?

SQL Related Error,

Solution,

Hi Paul here I gave possible solution but still the problem persist in that location

First,

We have checked that CustomSetting.ini files in Deployment share at GVC Location. Further we ensure that there was no changes made in customsettings.ini script

Second,

For Bang location they were using mdtuser sql Server authentication credentials for all location. Further we analyzed that credentials having proper security permission to access MDTDB. Finally we ensured that the mdtuser having its proper security permission in BTP Database server. As well as they also able to connect database by using that credential

Third,

We make sure that all SQL services, SQL Network configuration and DNS Settings further we ensure that was working fine

Fourth,

At last we configured a New Database for GVC Location. And we ask them to disable the entire firewall in SQL Server. Still that problem exists.

What could be possible solution please tell from your point of view?

Thanks in Advance

Using MDT 2013 Update 1.

The computer name is created manually by technician and always starts with a city code such as MI, NY, CA etc... I want to be able to then place the computer object into the appropriate OU based on the 2 letter prefix of the computer name.

Please advise as to the simplest way of achieving this!

Thank you!

MDT 2013 Update 2 is not splitting .wim

Hello all,

I'm Trying to make an UEFI offline media USB with MDT 2013 Update 2

The .wim size that I want to deploy is 4.32GB although I've set "SkipWimSplit" to False in :

  •  %DeployRoot%\Controls\Settings.xml
  •  %MediaRoot%\Content\Deploy\Controls\Settings.xml

MDT just copy my .wim file without splitting it but I can't copy it after on a FAT32 USB drive.

What should I do to make it work ?

Does Microsoft plan to add support for Office 2016 in USMT?

Similarly does Microsoft plan to add support for Office 2016 to 'Office vNext' in 'USMT vNext'?

I realize UE-V is an option, but knowing how much development Microsoft has planned for USMT helps us determine our user settings & data backup/restore/migration strategy moving forward.

Okay, i have been up and running on MDT/WDS for almost a year now and have not had any issues.

We just recently changed out a computer model and it has the new skylake processors etc.

I get 95% done with the image and it gets stuck on appliyng unattended.xml with dism.exe. it sits there for a few mins and reboots to a blue screen and then into a continuous reboot cycle since it cannot find an OS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Post Application - Windows Updates issue

$

Hi,

I am fairly new to using MDT 2013 Update 1 (6.3.8298.1000) with WAIK (10.0.26624). The plan is to have a task sequence that will fully patch the machine during the build without any user/admin intervention.

During a task sequence to build a Windows 7 x64 machine I have configured windows updates to be pulled from the WSUS server in a Post Application Installation task. The first pass completes successfully then the machine reboots. After it restarts it goes for Pass 2 and at this point it hangs on "searching for updates".  This prevents a couple of other tasks running therefore the full task sequence does not complete. During the LTI I do select the computer OU that the other machines on the domain are  located. Could GP be preventing it from running or is there a particular log i can check?

Can you limit the task to only do 1 pass or to kill the task after a certain amount of time?

Thanks in advance.

Will not load Task Sequence

Hi guys,

Here is my problem. We are imaging a variety of new machines in our environment with our Windows 10 Task Sequence in MDT. Lately we have been having trouble getting our team who image the machines for the environment the ability to start the image. When they boot into Winpe they are prompted to enter their credentials but afterwards it will not load the TS. Some times it provides and error stating "Gathering not complete. Ini file not found". Other times it completes the gathering but it still will not load it. As the engineers it usually works for us but some times it does not. We've cleared MINIT folder, formatted drives, provided our team with Admin rights on our deployment share server and provided them with Full Control to the deployment share folder. I have copied the CustomSettings.ini to the %SCRIPTROOT%, verified that other ini file information correct. I would like to note that 3 of our newer models that exhibit these issues are SSD's. Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated this issue has been killing me.

Preparing SCCM for ZTI deployments with MDT

Hi. I volunteer at a community center. We have a single server (recently upgraded to SCCM 2012 R2) and 20 workstations (a mix of Win 7 and 8.1). The latest version of MDT 2013 is installed. I implemented LTI deployment w/Server 2012. Now with SCCM, I'd like to do ZTI

I’m following Technet tutorial Prepare for Zero Touch Installation of Windows 8.1 with CM.  I’m having a problem at step Configure the Network Access Account

  1. Per an earlier step in the guide (Create Configuration Manager service accounts) I created a user account in AD for user CM_NAA
  2. Now I'm following instruction to config Network Access Account. I drill down to Configure Site Components-> Software Distribution.
  3. Their sample directions next say

In the Network Access Account tab, configure the CONTOSO\CM_NAA user account

(select New Account) as the Network Access account. Use the new Verify option to verify that the account can connect to the \\DC01\sysvol network share.

Our domain name is cohcybercenter

  • When I setup the Windows User Account and click Verify, I get an error (snapshot below)
  • I also don’t understand: When I created user account CM_NAA in an earlier step I already assigned it a password. So why does it have me assigning it a password again? If password is different, does it supercede the one I assigned when i created the user in AD?

Upgrade LTSB 1507 to Enterprise 1511?

We need to upgrade some of our LTSB systems to CBB 1511.

I know we can just boot from the ISO and install over the top, but we need it to be more automated and we also need to run a script to deprovision most of the built-in Store apps that we become enabled after doing the upgrade.

What would be the process to do a non-destructive upgrade via MDT?

MDT - How to install both versions of the Adobe Acrobat via task sequence

Hi there,

Could anybody point me please to instructions on how to install and keep both Adobe Acrobat Reader 11 and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 15 via the MDT task sequence? I encountered the problem that if I use the standardmsiexec /i AcroRdrDC1500720033_en_US.msi /qn command, the previously installed version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader 11 is uninstalled automatically and replaced with the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 15. But I need to keep them both.

Thanks a lot for your help, in advance!

MDT 2012 - Deployment of Win 7 Enterprise - Sysprep hanging in capture phase

$

I deployed a new reference machine (HP Elitebook 840 G3) with a standard Task Sequence and cusomized it (Windows Update, Desktop Settings etc.). Then i created a Sysprep and Capture Task sequence and tried to capture the customized image.

I executed the LiteTouch.wsf Script directly on the reference machine.

As for now the machine is hanging for 15 hours in the Sysprep Phase, Step "Processing generalize phase Sysprep plugins".

Is there any way to debug this process? I can't find any errors in the c:\windows\temp\DeploymentLogs Files

The setuperr.log file is clear (C:\windows\system32\sysprep\panther).

Task Sequence is Skipping Steps

I've recently noticed an issue with Our MDT System. Sometimes while deploying PCs right when the task sequence gets to the State Restore Step it will skip about 30 steps in that sequence and go straight to the last 4 steps of my task sequence. it does not record any errors at all when this happens and the Toolkit Monitoring says it has complete all 119 Steps of my TS which it has not I have to Reimage again and hope that it doesn't do it again.  does anyone else have an issue similar to this? or any advice. I am on the Latest toolkit 6.3.8330.1000.

Edit: My Task sequence keeping failing randomly in the same spots or the next step after that

I have an in-house application that I have the task sequence install it will skip this one and go to the end of the sequence sometimes it works other times.  Other times it will install the in-house application and move on to the next step which is installing elo touch screen drivers but after the setup.exe for the touch screen drivers extracts I get a dirty environment prompt if I select no the entire task sequence fails and says the task sequencer is already running and then I have to start the reimage all over again. I really need help with this as I cant get any of my PCs to image now.  Nothing has been changed in the Toolkit or on the server as I'm the only one with access to it I was able to deploy fine earlier but after I deployed any now all my PCs are failing at the same spots

Edit2: I went through my log and found the following Errors:
