MDT 2012 Update 1 Local Admin Account Disabled

$

MDT 2012; applied update 1 and created new deployment share to keep it clean.

Deploys native win7 fine.

Captured a reference computer and deployed the new image (done this successfully many times) and appears to work fine until the reboot when the local administrator account has been disabled.

I assume that is sysprep's default behavior but I though MDT enabled the admin account. Is there a new rule or a work around for this... I have captured our reference computer too many times?

Any tips?

Thanks!

Windows Update Interrupts MDT Task Sequence

$

Hi,

I'm using MDT 2013 to roll-out a small Windows 7 image. The imaging process goes fine except for the post-install phase. There, Windows Update decides to install about a dozen or so updates and reboot the computer, during the part where the task is installing software, which really screws it up afterward. I am left with a dirty environment that needs about an hour or so, per machine to fix. The machines are being deployed into an OU that has a GPO configured to use a WSUS server. The GPO's settings are to not allow the immediate installation of updates, and to only install at 11:00 p.m. every night. Why are updates being installed during the task sequence. Those two steps are disabled in the sequence I am using. The image has no local GPO's set.

Anyone seen this before?

Thanks

Jason

MDT 2013 language

I am using MDT 2013 to push a Windows 8 image to a laptop. When I run through the Windows deployment wizard and I get to the locale and time page, there is nothing under "the Language to install option". Nothing to choose and unable to continue. I am able to deploy a windows 7 image without a problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Looking for MDT server hardware suggestions

I am looking to spec out a new MDT server and wanted to see if you guys had any hardware suggestions.

Like should I go with all SSD drives? How much memory?

What is a good server line to go with?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I am currently using a very slow second generation core i5 box for MDT.

Complete Guide to "customsettings.ini"

I've been Google'ing, searching TechNet and perusing the MDT Documentation Library for a complete guide to "customsettings.ini". While I've managed to find bits and pieces here and there, I've yet to find something that lists all the possible commands and variables. Does anyone know where I can find this?  Or even a giant example customsettings file with all the commands they know of with a line by line explanation of what each does. (It's OK to leave out the database parts.)

Thanks!!!

Installing Applications Only With MDT 2013

$

I've been trying to create a task sequence to deploy applications only and I couldn't, although I created a standard  sequence that deploys windows 8.1 and then install the applications.

I trier to create a custom task sequence to install only applications and it comes with an error says "sequence has been suspended this can't be preformed on windows PE", so I created a standard task sequence and disabled the install group and the "new computer only" group so I could skip the formatting and installing windows part, the sequence goes well and then the client restarts to get on the desk top and install the applications like it should in the normal sequence but nothing happens the client is up ,there is no application and in the monitoring feature it says running and it's 69% complete.

I need to find a way to install applications with MDT with Zero Touch that actually works.

Copying 1 file to a directory via .bat file

Trying to use a batch file to copy 1 file to a directory (as part of an Application bundle). Yes I know, .bat files don't work well (if not at all) within MDT I've been reading. It should be simple, can I get some help? Here is

Quiet install command: cmd.exe /c install.bat

Working directory: \\server\folder1\folder2

Contents of bat file

===========

copy "\\server\folder1\folder2\file.key" C:\TestDir

The .bat file works obviously for a manual install, just not via MDT

MDT - Booting with LiteTouchPE_X64 but not getting deployment wizard menu

$

I am working to familiarize myself with MDT and I keep getting stuck at the same point.  I seem to be setting up my deployment share, importing the OS (Win 7 x64 Enterprise), importing drivers, and a few applications, adding a task sequence, and updating my deployment share, all without error.

I'm then creating creating a bootable PE usb flash drive and copying the LiteTouchPE_x64.wim file into the \Sources folder and renaming it boot.wim.

I am able to boot from the flash drive and I get the blue Microsoft Solution Accelerator background but instead of the deployment wizard menu options I'm just getting a command prompt at X:\windows\system32

I've been back over my steps several times but can't see anything I'm missing.  I would think if there was a communication issue between my reference machine and the deployment share I would still get the wizard but it would fail when I tried to install. Could be wrong though.

I'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Thanks in Advance!

LocationServer.xml not working/prompting

$

So, I've followed all the steps I could find on creating LocationServer.xml, removing the DeployRoot lines in the bootstrap for each share, storing the file in the proper \Extra Files\Deploy\Control folder and linking it to the x86 and x64 WinPE settings as an extra directory to add.  I've updated each share after making changes.

However, no matter what I do, it just boots into the first share I ever created without prompting for which share to choose - and sits waiting for me to select the TS.  I want to boot to the other share and select that TS.  I don't even get prompted to manually enter a path to the share (which would mean LocationServer.xml is probably typed wrong).  I'm wondering if something needs to be set to '=YES' in the CustomSettings.ini or bootstrap that may not already be - or if something also needs added there to make the wizard pop up.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

MDT Image Deployment Using Flash Drive

$

Hi,

In my environment i am using MDT 2010 image deployment process to deploy Windows XP and Windows 7 OS images,

As image deployment is foccussed on multiple remote locations we have planned to move with USB Flash drive (Pen Drive) for image deployment,

The problem occurs here in normal system through diskpart utility i can able to get all the disks including my flash drive but in win pe mode i am unable to get my flash drive listed in diskpart utility.

so the image deployment process hangs on to the microsoft solution accelerator screen i am unable to predict the actual reason but i can predict this can happen because of mass storage driver problems.

I tried the same using USB Hard Disk and succeded with the deployment and i am unable to guess what makes difference between USB Hard disk and USB Flash Drive.

Can you just help me out on this to close the problem ASAP..

So that i can proceed with my roll out activities.

Thanks in advance,

Siva

Task Sequence says partition Disk 1, task attempts to and fails on partitioning disk 0.

$

Task sequence is just the default sequence except my destination machine has an SSD as Disk 1 (according to diskpart from the MDT CMD) which I would like the installation to be performed on.

I have updated the following step:

Format and Partition Disks - From Disk 0 to Disk 1.

When I run the task it fails after attempting to create partition 1 on Disk 0...

What am I missing?

Apply Network Settings dosen't apply

OK, when I follow the article above under the section "Customize the New Deployment Task Sequence" the NIC gets labelled, along with my DNS settings, etc. When I apply an unattend.xml, it isn't. Any clue which setting in my unattend.xml is potentially blocking this task sequence?
