Stop MDT from changing the RequireSecuritySignature

I have notice that durning image deployment, MDT turned on the RequireSecuritySignature to 1 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters\RequierSecuritySignature]

The client is unable to connect to my netapp filer because of the registry change. Have anyone running into the same problem or have a solution for this?

Task Sequence pausing at windows desktop after first boot on Dell lat e5510. TS fine on other models of machine

Hi,

I am using MDT 2012 to roll out clean XP SP3 install and then install applications. The task sequence works fine on other models of machines however when installing on Dell Latitude e5510 laptop the process appears to simply pause at the windows desktop screen the first time windows boots. I have looked through the OSDLOGS an cannot see anything obvious.

Can anyone please advise?

Thank You

Regards,

Is there any way to launch a specific task sequence from the command prompt?

I'm having Helpdesk techs run a task sequence from within Windows for certain PCs before handing them off to the end user and I'd like to kick it off from a batch file to minimize errors.  Is there any way to feed LiteTouch.wsf a specific task sequence to run?

MDT 2012 Update 1 Applying WinPE Error "Unable to determine destination disk, Drive or partition error 5456"

$

The build process we are trying to apply is an OEM build process which currently works fine under MDT 2010.

The task sequence and build process involves copying down the Media deployment  to a primary partition then applies the WinPE task sequence then once the machine is restarted this should boot into the deployment point to continue the build process. The error below occurs during the OEM phase during the Apply WinPE stage and Prior to the final reboot.

Below is the machine type and exact error message.

We have some HP Z (220,420,620,820)  range machines that contain internal Card Readers.

During the stage within our task sequence that applies the WINPE environment we get the following error "Unable to determine destination disk, Drive or partition error 5456".

I have review the .vbs and .wsf files from MDT and found that the error is located within the ZTIUtility.vbs script and we think that this is because the Card Readers are confusing the apply script as they are all allocated driver letters even within the task sequence phase.

We have got around the issue by disabling the Card Readers from within the BIOS and then re-enabling them post build as part of our build process.

I have reviewed the code and I am a little unsure what needs to be changes without causing other issues.

Any help appreciated.

MDT 2012 Deploy Multiple Partitions

I read that deploying multiple partitions was a problem  or could not be done in MDT 2010, but support for this was supposed to be a new feature of MDT 2012.

I can't find any info on how to do it.

We have a requirement to deploy a Windows 7 image with OS on the C drive  and some data files (a few gigabytes) on the D partition.

We need to capture both partitions from the model PC that will be sysprepped and used to create the multi-partition image that needs to be deployed to the new PCs.

What extra steps are required to do a multi-partition deployment?

Group policy breaking MDT build process

Good Afternoon,

I wondered if someone could help me. If a Group Policy has been put in place to reset the local administrator password on all machines on our domain could this have a knock on effect on the deployment of new machines using WDS/MDT? We are finding that after the first reboot once the OS is installed during the build process instead of going straight into Windows with the local administrator account to complete all the task sequences it now stops at the login page and states that the login username or password is incorrect for  the .\Administrator account. I have read that its possible this can happen if a policy was introduced that would rename the local builtiin Administrator account but would a password change also have the same effect?

Any advice/help would be much appreciated

Kind regards

Jonsey

MDT and Captured image prepared using Dell OEM media

Hi All

We have MDT and WDS deployed in our environment and are having problems with drivers and licensing.

Scenario 1:MDT 2012 update 1

{1.1} When using MDT 2012 and the Dell OEM Media (unmodified image,Source files only) drivers get copied via the task sequence and installed just fine

{1.2} When using MDT 2012 and the Dell OEM Media (Modified image, windows updates and all LOB applications installed, sysprepped and captured) drivers get copied but not installed.

In both scenario 1.1 and 1.2 the license does not get applied like when you use the OEM disk.I have seen ways to get around this by copying the $OEM$ folder during ts but haven't been able to get it working yet.

Scenario 2:MDT 2010 update 1

{2.1} When using MDT 2010 and the Dell OEM Media (unmodified image,Source files only) drivers get copied via the task sequence and installed just
           fine.

{2.2} When using MDT 2010 and the Dell OEM Media (Modified image, windows updates and all LOB applications installed, sysprepped and captured)                 drivers get copied but not installed.

In both scenarios 2.1 and 2.2 the OEM license is applied correctly.

In Summary:

Neither MDT 2010 nor MDT 2012 allows me to install drivers when using the modified image and only MDT 2010 allows me to apply the OEM license.

Things I've tried to troubleshoot

1.Checked for a folder called "Drivers" in the root of C: on the reference PC before capturing it.
2.Checked the ZTIDrivers log and can see the drivers are being copied from the OOBE drivers folder on the deploymentshare
3. Tried installing with the unmodified source files and that works, drivers install fine.

In the end I would like to use MDT2012 because imagex makes the whole thing a lot faster, just need to get my custom image to install the drivers and for the license to be applied.

MDT 2012 Post OS Installation Task Sequence fails on first reboot (0x80090005 - fails to decrypt C:\_SMSTaskSequence\TSEnv.dat)

I am attempting to use MDT 2012 to run a Post OS Installation Task Sequence. Specifically, for the curious, I'd like to automate the hardening and application installation steps on top of a Windows Server 2008 R2 OS running on Amazon EC2.

In have reproduced to the following:

  1. Install MDT 2012 Update 1 (and Windows AIK) from scratch.
  2. Create a fresh Post OS Installation Task Sequence.
  3. Add a single "Restart Computer" task to the Custom section.
  4. Use UNC to connect to this deployment share and run the sequence.
  5. Fails after the first restart.

Detailed log files are below, but I continue to get this error on the first restart step during the task sequence (taken from bdd.log):

<![LOG[Litetouch deployment failed, Return Code = -2146893819  0x80090005]LOG]!><time="17:45:38.000+000" date="07-02-2013" component="LiteTouch" context="" type="3" thread="" file="LiteTouch">

I've done a *lot* of searching around this. I've seen similar issues, but no solutions for this case. Some quick facts to cover the basics:

  • It is not joined to a domain. (I plan to join later after sysprep.)
  • The Windows time appears correct.
  • There is no PXE or SCCM server involved, so it does not seem to be an invalid server certificate issue.
  • There are no unexpected reboots being triggered during the sequence (since the sequence is out of the box / empty).
  • The tsenv.dat file is present (when LTICleanup is deliberately avoided), and small in size (much less than 10MB).

My guess is that somewhere in the black magic of Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment and smsboot.exe, the encryption / decryption is going wrong. Perhaps it is using device / bios information to handle the encryption key which is changing in some subtle way during a VM restart?

I've seen this fail approximately 40 times in various tests, checks, reproductions and debugging steps. It has worked twice, with no noticeable difference in the log files from the failed attempts until the decrypt tsenv.dat section (I diffed them).

Detailed files below, thanks in advance for *any* suggestions or guidance!!

Thanks, Nathan

Trying to understand MDT2012 Multi-Cast

I'm trying to use MDT 2012 from Server 2008R2 to image about 50 computers (volunteering at kids school)

CONFIGURATION

Server 2008R2

MDT 2012 integrated with WDS

Clients are Windows 7

HP Procurve V1910-48 Gigabit Switch with IGMP Level 3 Snooping enabled (and no multi-cast broadcast limits)

Everything works wonderfully when Uni-casting the images to the PC's but, when you unicast 50 PC's the time to image all 50 is roughly 2 hours.

We enabled the share for Multi-Casting in MDT

and WDS shows Multicast Transmissions -> MDT Share Deployment$  when you right mouse click properties it shows Autocast and Active

But, no sessions show up in WDS.

In the event log on the server there are 2 error messages for each connection

First error

MDT 2012 + WinPE 4.0 + VMWare ESXi - Hangs "Windows is loading files" booting into PE

I'm trying out using MDT 2012 and WinPE 4.0, upgrading things. I've recreated things following templates in MDT 2012. I'm also using ADK and WinPE 4.0.

Issue I'm seeing is upon restarting into WinPE I see the screen showing Windows is Loading Files and the progress bar. I see the first one load through and then the second slower one load through. Once progress bar fills, it just does nothing and I'm left looking at a complete progress bar.

I was trying obviously first using VMWare ESX 5.0 with no success, subsequently tried a couple of physical machines and those had no problems. I still want to get working on ESX since that will help speed up development and testing of the rest of the stuff I need to upgrade. Tried a variety of SCSI controllers within ESX vms. I tried VMWare Workstation 9 with the mixed results as with the LSI Logic Parallel SCSI controller had success but not the others.

I of course at first tried making sure drivers were added with no change, although that still could be an issue with drivers I found to put in being incorrect.

More interestingly though is that I can of course install Windows 8 from install media just fine on these hardware, as well as if I create an ISO from the deployment share and boot to that it works just fine, so it seems to just be an issue when booting to WinPE on disk.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Lite Touch Deployment failed

After months of successful image deployment, yesterday I got a failure box with this info:

Operating System deployment did not complete successfully

ZTI ERROR - Unhandled error returned by LTIApply: This version of "\\IMAGESRV\Deploymentshare$\imagex.exe" /apply

"\\IMAGESRV\Deploymentshare$\Operating Systems\Win7STD\\Win7STD.wim" 1 C: is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running.

Litetouch deployment failed, Return Code = -2147467259  0x80004005

Failed to run action: Install Operating System

Anybody got any clues where to start?  As far as I can tell, nothing has changed on my deployment server.

MDT2012 - Deploy image from USB?

I am currently using MDT to deploy images/applications (via bootable USB) from my deployment share.  Am I able to copy certain files directly to a USB stick and install that way?  with the MDT server down or not present?  I want to ship these USB sticks to branch offices and have them deploy the images (not across the WAN, but locally).

Object doesn't support this property 'MachineObjectOUOptional'

I am altering our build sequence and having it auto join the machine to the domain instead of allowing the tech to choose the proper OU.  Attached is a copy of what I have currently set for my rules and the error I receive.  It gets to the point of inputting the machine name and moves on to the application pane.  When I click next on that window I get the error.  Any help would be appreciated.

MDT deployment to UEFI Computer

Hi guys,

I'm trying to deploy to a UEFI enabled server but am running into a problem.

The deployment kicks off fine, the disk is formatted and the correct UEFI partitions appear, the operating system image gets applied, then I get into the post install phase, everything goes through up until the restart computer step.

The sequence hangs for a little while then flags up an error stating that it was unable to check the reboot status, and I get an access denied 80004005 message.

if I then restart that computer, and re-run through the deployment it all goes through fine.

When I first boot the computer from out of the box, there are no disks detected as they are attached to an array, I run a utility to configure the array and the disk appears and is found and formatted by the format disk step.

Does any have any ideas?

WSUS Updates not working

MDT 2012.. I have the customsettings.ini configured as WSUSserver=http://servername.domain.com.  Do I need to enable per/post windows updates in the task sequence?  if so, what is the default command line ?  I was testing something else and have changed it.  Everything is set on the WSUS server side.. not getting any updates during imaging.

MDT2012 Unattend.xml domain join no longer works

After upgrading from MDT 2010 to MDT 2012 the domain join feature is broken.

Because I use MDT to deploy to several different domains I used the unattend.xml option to join to the domain, the cs.ini option is not viable because of the multiple domain issue.
I checked the log files and if I read the log files correctly the ZTIConfigure script removes the Microsoft-Windows-UnattendedJoin from the unattend.xml for some reason.

Windows 7 Deployment with USB Issues

Using MDT 2012 to create Media (ISO) to then transfer to bootable USB and deploy image.

USB Drive: Kingston Datatraveller 111 (3.0)

System: HP ProBook 4330s, 4340s

BIOS Booting configured to use Legacy Mode with Security Mode disabled - I believe this is required in order to boot from USB instead of using UEFI.

Deployment of image seems to get through part of Task Sequence, but at some stage (varying) we get a Windows Dialog stating "Media Not Found. Please reinsert the media (CD, DVD, or USB) needed to complete the deployment." at which point the USB drive appears to be totally unrecognised. At this point if I insert into another Windows device, we get a "You need to format the disk in drive E: before you can use it.".

I can place another (different model USB) into stalled deployment and it completes.

MDT logs say they copy drivers, but cant see it and it does not install

Hi All

Why does my MDT 2012 update 1 never install drivers when I use my customized image? I use the same task sequence and replace the OS with source files from the disk and the drivers install fine.

ZTIDrivers.log shows the drivers being copied but when the ts is done I cannot find C:\Drivers and no drivers is installed.

PLEASE HELP
