Install State Unknown for all Applications installed during UDI Task Sequence

$

When the UDI Task Sequence finishes, a final "Deployment Complete" window is shown with three tabs (Welcome, Deployment Summary and Applications Installed) and a Start Windows button at the bottom. When I click on the "Applications Installed" tab, all applications have a yellow warning indicating "Install State Unknown" even though every application installs successfully without any errors in the logs. Also there is no SuccessOrFailureCode shown when expanding each application. These same applications install fine via normal deployments (post imaging) and using standard Task Sequences (Install Application step).

The following network device did not have a driver installed

Hi All,

We've been using MDT 2012 for a while and managed to use it for all our PC.

Lately, we've migrated all our permanent staff DELL (several models) computers to Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32 bits without any problem (180).

But, last week, we bought 100 HP ProBook 4540S and we thought we would just have to download drivers and do as usual !

I manually installed Windows 7, I then installled a few basic applications required for our common images, we captured the installation, everything went smoothly too.

We then deployed the image on another laptop (same model), everything was ok too.

We then modified the dedicated network adapter section in one of the XML file, to add a second adapter (WiFi) and noticed that it eventually turned up once the required columns added to our SQL server database !
Indeed, these laptop will be connected to our network through wifi only.

We then tried to start a new deployment when we got the dreaded message mentioned in the title of this post !

My colleague thought that the network driver was faulty and decided to remove all this laptop drivers, and do all other gain the procedure to add drivers, update MDT, import the boot image to WDS and so on !.

Unfortunately,we keep getting this message and even rolling back to the previous MDT settings dind't solve the problem !

Yet all the other PC tasks work properly !

The message is displayed just before we get the list of task sequences available !

Restarting services, rebooting the server, udapting to MDT2012 SP1, generating a dedicated HP drivers WinPE image don't work either !

Help would be much appreiciated because we don't know what to do next !

Phil.

Restart Computer step not working

$

Hi Guys,

while using MDT 2012 SP1, and attempting to deploy Server 2008 R2, after the OS is applied it gets to the reboot step, this doesn't actually restart the computer, it brings up a command prompt which indicates a problem, but looking at the logs it states that the restart computer step completed successfully and its waiting to restart.

If I restart the box, it boots into windows and carries on its merry way, eventually completing with no errors.

Anyone have any ideas why this would be? the logs don't seem to show anything wrong or an error.

Thanks

Task Sequence is not resuming after restarting into windows

Hi Guys,

I have MDT 2012 Sp1, deploying Server 2008 R2 enterprise to IBM x3500 hardware.

the task sequence I have used is a standard server TS, with the following changes:

My restart computer step in the post install phase was not working (just bringing up a cmd prompt), so I have disabled that and inserted a step that calls shutdown -r -t 0 to restart the computer.

I have imported the IBM drivers into the DS, and there are no custom selection profiles.

The issue I am facing is that when the computer restarts, it boots into windows setup, does that initial device setup, then does its prescribed restart, and boots into windows, does its autologon to desktop, and then just sits there.

Litetouch is present under startup, and if I examine c:\minint\osdlogs\bdd.log or litetouch.log the final lines are along the lines of:

copying e:\tools\x64\xyz.exe to c:\minint\tools\x64\...

the final line, which is repeated each and everytime I run litetouch.vbs at the desktop is:

copying e:\deploy\control\\ts.xml c:\minint\...

That ts.xml needs to come from the e:\deploy\control\<TSNAME>\ts.xml.. but that variable seems to be missing.. I've tried to look through the scripts to see where it wants this variable to come from but I've had no luck.

it seems to be hanging on looking for this e:\deploy\control\\ts.xml, which doesn't exist with the \\ in there..

anyone have a clue on this one? should I specify the TS ID within customsettings.ini so that its set and try again? as I think that's what its looking for but I cant see it anywhere..

thanks

MDT's process is gone after first reboot

Hi all,

We use MDT 2012.

Recently we decided to customize the Image/Capture file that is installed on the computers at the company.

We have a computer that we performed a capture of it, we did no changes on it, other than Windows 7 updates and editing the Default user (wallpaper, homepage, desktop icons etc.)

Until the last capture we made, everything worked fine.

We tried to capture a new image using the old Task Sequence of capturing with no success, every time we received error messages (each time more and more).

The same problem also appeared when we tried to create a new Task Sequence of capturing and left the default settings of it.

Then we created a new Task Sequence with no Sysprep (http://oi41.tinypic.com/348qeis.jpg).

The capture seem to be working properly. We updated the .wim file in the Task Sequnce of the deployment, the came a new problem:

After deploying OS (By the way, the installation of the OS is correct, but without applications or "Finish" screen), the computer reboots and reach the login screen without a trace of the deployment process.

Even when we took a new capture of computer that is configured to "automatically login", after deployment, the computer reach the desktop screen without a trace of the deployment process.

PLEASE HELP!

Windows Restarted Unexpectedly while applying systems settings after MDT 2012 deployment.

Posted this in another forum, so I figured give this forum a try.

Hello,

I wonder if anyone can help or point me in the right direction.  I've created a couple of WIMs and deployed them out using MDT 2012 and WDS running on a Windows 2008R2 server.  The images are created and captured fine.  Sysprep runs with no issues and I can deploy out the images to any PC/laptop I want.

The issue I'm running into is I can deploy out this image to 100 PC's without any issue.  Then all of a sudden, I'll get an error saying Windows restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error and can not continue.  This will then happen from now on with this particular image.  For instance I've imaged a particular Dell Optiplex 790 multiple times with no problem, then all of a sudden I get this error on this or any other PC i image.

If I create a new image, the pattern just keeps happening over and over again.  I know it's not an issue with the physical computers themselves and I can imagine something is corrupting every image I have over a certain amount of time, so I'm sort of at a loss.  Driver issue perhaps?

Thanks,

Mike

New MacBook Air (June 2013) Deployment Issue

I've worked out how to use MDT 2012 to deploy Windows 7 (and now Windows 8) to MacBook Pro laptops, and it works very well. The only concession I've had to make due the to mac hardware is not booting from Windows Deployment Services using PXE - I simply have to use the LiteTouchPEx64.iso to create a boot CD or USB to kick off the process.  But it all works!

Today I'm having a new issue - one I've never seen - with my brand new June 2013 MacBook Air. When I boot into my WinPE LTI environment I have no keyboard or mouse support.  Yes, I downloaded the MacBook Air BootCamp drivers, imported them into MDT, and generated new boot images. I thought I could workaround by attaching an external USB keyboard and/or mouse, but even those fail to operate at all in the LTI WinPE environment.

I decided to work around the issue by removing the need for interacting with the wizard entirely. It didn't take long to customize my CustomSettings.ini file with the MAC address of my MacBookAir, making use of the SkipTaskSequence, SkipComputerName,SkipApplications (etc, etc) options and manually defining the computername, task sequence ID, Mandatory Applications, etc to fully automate the deployment. And it all worked. On my last test, no wizard screens popped up asking me for input.

*Unfortunately*, the deployment fails with errors. I believe the errors are related to my custom diskpart script, but it's difficult to troubleshoot without any way to interact with the deployment at the WinPE console.

I then created and booted from a Win8 installation USB stick, to learn whether the keyboard and mouse would work, and also to use diskpart to try a bit of manual partition configuration. The keyboard and mouse DO work normally. I created a partition layout that should be compatible with the custom diskpart script in my task sequence, but the deployment still failed (although with a different number of errors and warning, so at least that's "progress").

Any thoughts on why my keyboard and mouse won't work within WinPE? If I can get those working again I'm happy to do my own troubleshooting, but it's a bit hard to figure out with both hands tied behind my back!

Thanks in advance for all replies!

BJ

I have added a custom .WIM file to my deployment share and now get the above error upon completion of the deployment in the summary screen. the task sequence is completing and the deployment works with the new image but this error bothers me.

This is a Vista x86 with SP2 fully patched image I have injected. I think it has something to do with the sysprep options that are used when I use the SCCM capture media I have created and used to capture the image. This is an MDT2012 error I am seeing with a LiteTouch installation.

Updating media content take a lot of time

We are using MDT 2012 and deployment method USB media. We have 12 Windows 7 images and 8 types of hardware models so about 3GB of drivers. We just setting up this environment so there are cases in which I need to change the driver for proper one - remove older and import newer one. After this operation I need to update media content which take a lot of time - about 1 hour. Deployment Share is about 90GB size. Then I need to copy all this content into USB media. Any idea how we can make this process faster? When we change only one or two drivers is there any way to update only these changes?

MDT 2012 Powershell script does not run correctly

Hi,

I have a powershell script that looks through a CSV file to pull a username and password based on the computer's serial number and set auto-logon registry keys to match.  I run this script outside of MDT and it works perfectly and enters the correct information into the registry.  When I try to put it into MDT Task Sequence it does not work.  Using "Run Powershell script" I get an exit code 0 with no other information, and the script takes the username and password registry entries and puts in blank values instead of the values that are found.  When I do "Run command line" it just does not work at all, no matter what I do.

Thanks for your help.

The file "ifM63x64.sys" is the "IntelEthernetFCoEVirtualStorportMiniportDriverVersion1.14.12.0."

If I install the driver by handon a similar pc, it works very well.
And the most interesting is that this Windows BootManager error also appears whenI add another driver Intel (for PCI Serial Port), to deployto another computer.

MDT 2012 - U1 on Win8: "Please install PowerShell..."

$

I built a new Windows 8 machine and then installed MDT 2012-U1 and the Windows 8 ADK.  All of these are the final RTM releases and not betas or release candidates.

When I start MDT I get the error:

“Initialization Error PowerShell is required to use the Deployment Workbench.  Please install PowerShell then relaunch Deployment Workbench.”

I've tried reinstalling MDT and uninstalling the ADK but I still get the error.

I've uninstalled both and then installed just MDT by itself but still get the error.

Run batch file to complete application installation

Hi,

I'm deploying Windows 7, Office 2010 and some business applications using MDT 2012 on Server 2012.

I can install the applications using the Task Sequence but some of the business applications need some configuration files and shortcuts manually copied to the correct locations.  I can create a batch script to do the copy but where is the best place to run this from, during the application install or at the end of the TS?

Or is there a better way of achieving this?

Thanks

MDT Task Sequence Duplicator

One of our projects has highly customized Task Sequences and App Bundles that need to be reused often on different images.  We created a simple app to duplicate the Task Sequences.  MDT doesn't have a duplicate option for Task Sequences and Application Bundles so I created two simple utilities to perform those simple functions.  Just wanted to share if they are helpful for some people:

How to create 100% offline media for multiple models?

$
0
0

I am configuring MDT 2012 Update 1 for deploying Windows 7 and Windows 8. We need to build 100% offline media for imaging non-network connected machines. Network imaging of machines is also needed. We have approximately 10 models of equipment. In MDT I plan to use %ModelAlias% (from a custom script) to determine which OOB driver folder should be used for a TS. I'm building a library folder structure of device/OS specific drivers, so there's no mass PnP confusion. We may also need to use %modelalias% to install device specific software (such as hotkey software) packages.

Where I need clarification is how to appropriately build the offline media that can use the %modelalias% logic and select the right drivers/applications like the online method does.

When I create a new media item it's very limited what I can specify. I'm limited to one selection profile. So a little insight on the best extensible way to approach this would be appreciated.
