$

This might sound like a silly question, I am new to MDT and still trying to understand it fully. What I do not understand is If you configuring a lite touch deployment solution and you are able add all the application that you require in your business and add the update packages as well successfully. Why do you need the Reference Computer Image?

I am able to successfully Deploy a Windows 7 Image to a new computer with the Service Pack 1 and applications and join the domain as well.

I am using the WinPE image to connect to deployment share.

Can some one please help me provide some guidance here.

Move User Data Windows XP to Windows 7 MDT 2012 Update 1

Been using MDT 2012 Update 1 for a year wiping XP computers and putting Windows 7 with applications. I was not worried about user data until now.

I want to know how to use the Standard Task Sequence I was using before but now I need to backup user data in WinPe. I would like to backup user data to a network share or USB, format the drive, lay down Windows 7, install apps, and restore user data..

I cant figure out how to do the first part of backing up data.

help? suggestions?

MDT 2012 Beta 2 Windows 7 "Setup.exe - Entry Point Not Found" fastprox.dll

I created a standard task sequence in MDT 2012 Beta 2

Imported Windows 7 setup files for x86 and defaulted the rest.

As soon as the task sequence calls setup.exe it throws the following error

The procedure entry point ??0WString2@@QAE@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library X:\windows\system32\wbem\fastprox.dll.

If you select ok it throws the same error message a second time the once you choose ok on this it starts to install Windows 7 normally.

Any idea what this is and if I can fix it? I also found if you just run setup.exe from command line you get the same messages. So I dont believe it is related to the task sequence.

any help or empathy would be appreciated

Advice on Microsoft Office 2010 in reference image or post with MDT??

I have been using MDT 2012 Update 1 for our deployments. I have been adding MS Office 2010 SP1 in our applications and deploying it post install. I want to know if there are any advantages or best practice in adding Office 2010 IN our reference image? I realize that if you place it in the reference image you MUST REARM Office AND THEN sysprep the machine to avoid duplicate CMIDs... Any thoughts on best practices or advice on deploying Office 2010?

SkipUserData=NO

I set the following variables for a task sequence that a use the build replacement pc's. I need to restore data from a network location, and want to be prompted for the location as the computer name differs from the old and the new.

My variables looks like this:

- SkipUserData=NO
- UserDataLocation=Network
- UDShare=\\yourserver\yourshare

I did not specify  UDDIR= variable as I want to just type the name of the folder(computername) that I need to restore. I however do not get prompted for the userdata location. Please help.

Can't migrate user settings and data in deployment wizard

I've been using the same setup for a while with no issues. Suddenly when I try to reimage a particular computer, I cannot choose to migrate user settings and data in the deployment wizard. I get this message:

A supported previous version of Windows was not found on this computer. Data and settings cannot be restored.

I am using MDT 2012 U1 for imaging and WDS for PXE booting on Windows Server 2008 R2. Windows 7 x64 is installed on the target computer. Before I tried to reimage it, I shut it down from Windows and it began installing updates. Since it was going to be reimaged, I forced power off and PXE booted it. I then got that message in the Deployment Wizard. I thought that I might have damaged the Windows installation and caused MDT to not detect it, so restarted the computer and Windows booted fine. I tried installing all updates and then PXE booting again, but I got the same message.

Any ideas without copying data and reinstalling Windows the manual way? I'd like to be able to use the migrate feature in the wizard like I have been doing on other computers.

Unable to generate LiteTouchMedia.iso file in MDT 2012

Hello,

I'm creating offline Media in MDT 2012. It is creating the "content" folder, but it is not creating the "LiteTouchMedia.iso" file. Once it's created the content folder folder, the Media creation wizard shows "process completed successfully" and no more progress to create the iso file.

I have created a separate deployment share for deployment, which contains only the captured wim file, some model drivers and standard client task sequence for deployment. I did search for log files to identify the issue, but i couldn't get any log files particularly for Media creation.

Can anyone help me on this issue?.

Thanks in Advance.

MDT 2012 Update 1 Custom WIM Import

Using MDT 2012 Update 1. Back in MDT 2010 I would capture my custom wim and then replace the default install.wim in sources folder of my Win 7 enterprise files on my DVD.. I would then import the source files in MDT 2010 and would be done with it. I couldnt import JUST the WIM I captured.......

Question: Since MDT 2012 Update 1 uses ImageX and NOT Setup is there a need for the full set of source files? Am I able to just import my captured WIM file??

deployment 'started' not finishing..

Hi

My deployment started.. not finishing...

The last log entry for the deployment is:

No groups or users to add to the "Administrators" group were specified. ZTIGroups 5/31/2013 4:22:54 PM 0 (0x0000)

There's no errors, nothing.. it just kindda stops..

When I log in... a popup tells me that a deployment is already underway and if I'd like to continue, or stop..

Something seems odd...

What could I be missing?

Kindest regards, Martin

MDT 2012 & Symanted Endpoint Protection & Samba

I have had this problem through all betas of MDT 2012 and it still exists in the final release.

Conditions:
Windows 7 Professional wSP1 x64 installed using all default settings.
Installing Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 R1
Connecting to any SAMBA computer (specifically Mac OSXS.

If I install the OS using MDT 2012 (there is no issue with MDT 2010) once I install SEP the computer can no longer connect to SAMBA computers. Specifically tested with Mac OSXS but also tested with CentOS. The OS can connect with no issues before installing but once SEP touches the computer (uninstalling SEP does not fix the problem) it can no longer connect to SAMBA machines. When attempting to connect I get "The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.".

I can not find anything in the documentation or changelog for 2012 that would lead to this issue. Also this is *NOT* a problem with SEP as there are zero issues with MDT 2010.

Installing image from ..setup.exe.. times out after 54 minutes

I'm quite new to MDT and have inherited a setup that's been working fine so far. Now we wanted to deploy Lenovo X1 Carbon laptops so I injected the usb->ethernet driver in the boot image and added them to the inject driver steps in the task sequence, updated the wim and reloaded the WDS server. Works fine until the step where the OS is to be installed.

This is what the LTIApply and BDD logs show:

Installing image from \\server\DeploymentShare$\Operating Systems\DEPLOY-WIN7-X64\DEP-WIN7-X64.wim using command: "\\server\DeploymentShare$\Operating Systems\Windows 7 x64\Sources\setup.exe" /noreboot /unattend:C:\MININT\unattend.xml /m:"\\server\DeploymentShare$\$OEM$"LTIApply2013-05-31 14:02:500 (0x0000)

... there's a few heartbeat loggings like the one below

ZTI Heartbeat: command has been running for 54 minutes (process ID 1884)LTIApply2013-05-31 14:56:000 (0x0000)
Return code from command = -1073740771 LTIApply2013-05-31 14:58:010 (0x0000)

Setup failed applying image \\server\DeploymentShare$\Operating Systems\DEPLOY-WIN7-X64\DEP-WIN7-X64.wim, rc = -1073740771LTIApply2013-05-31 14:58:010 (0x0000)

So, why is the installation timing out. Any way to find out? I have all the logs saved.

Create new Deployment Client share face new a problem....[[help]]

dear all,

I was doing well in deployment share environment.

I create new deployment Client environment...

But when i try to deploy the window there was error as:

Failure ( 5441) 1: FindFile:imagex.exe

failed to rune the action install Operating System

failure (5212) welcome wizard failed or was cancelled

I have added a custom .WIM file to my deployment share and now get the above error upon completion of the deployment in the summary screen. the task sequence is completing and the deployment works with the new image but this error bothers me.

This is a Vista x86 with SP2 fully patched image I have injected. I think it has something to do with the sysprep options that are used when I use the SCCM capture media I have created and used to capture the image. This is an MDT2012 error I am seeing with a LiteTouch installation.

Error on deployment connection. Connection to the deployment share could not be made (network driver not installed)

I am using a Asus X55C laptop and I am attempting to deploy it through the use of an image but I received the error:

connection to the deployment share could not be made. The deployment will not proceed. The following networking device did not have a driver installed PCI\VEN_1969&DEV_1091&SUBSYS_147C1043&REV_10."

I researched on internet and I found out the correct network driver. I imported the driver into the out of box drivers, set up the selection profiles correctly and updated the deployment share.

I still received the same error when deploying

I cannot see where I am going wrong.. anyone got any ideas?

Multiple OS Deployment Problems

I am trying to deploy multiple OSes on a single machine and I encountered a few problems. I hope someone can help me on either one of them. I am trying to install Win7x32, Win7x64, Win8x32, Win8x64 on a single machine. The first one is that I could not manage to configure one task sequence to install multiple Oses(is it even possible?). Next thing I tried is having 4 task sequences, one for each OS. First thing I encountered is that if you do not check the Make this a boot partition on the Format Disk step in the task sequence, it installs the OS, but cannot finish: I get an error with Could not find Litetouch.wsf to continue deployment. In order to get one partition per OS I tried in Win7x32 task sequence(first one to be ran) to set up the partitioning: first one with 25% space, next with 33%, third with 50% and last with 100%. This way I get an even partitioning. The problem is that I cannot modify all partitions to make them boot partitions. Obviously, I have to disable this step in the next task sequences in order to keep the disk partitioning intact. The problem is that at the second OS the problem with "Could not find LiteTouch.wsf appears, because partition is not boot partition. So I enabled the format disk step in the second task sequence(Win7x64), but it formats the entire disk. Last thing I tried is setting up the first task sequence with 25% space from disk, then next task sequence to 50% space from disk and so on. The problem is that before taking x % from disk space, it wipes the disk clean.  If anyone ever did this and found a workaround I would appreciate the help. Or at least some hints as to where to look and what to try.

Thank you

SCCM UDI Issue

Hi all,

Is there any guidance for client fresh installation with SCCM 2012+MDT+UDI? I cannot find more info about this. Currently, I encounter a problem about UDI user state capture issue. I have create a TS using client task sequence template and set the capture task in UDI. But the TS never run the capture user state task during deployment. The user state always failed.

Do I miss something?

Thanks.

Questions regarding to MDT and Windows 7 / Windows 8 deployment

Hi all,

I have some questions and hoping that someone can answer to these.

1. Do I need WAIK after I install WADK? I can just replace the WAIK with WADK?

2. When installing Windows to audit mode can I activate it? Any side efftects that I should be aware of? I'm planning to use virtualmachine for creating my reference image and going to install windows to audit mode, apply all the patches and then use MDT to capture this. I take snapshot before the capture so I can easily rebuild my reference image afterwards. If I dont activate my reference machine expires and I need to reinstall and it takes time.

3. Is it a bad idea to replace original install.wim file inside the windows installation media with wim file that I capture from my reference machine? I want to have one "original" media with all the latest patches.

ImageX, MDT, create (full) media -- growing in size by Gigabytes (GB) on each capture

We have created media in MDT only a few times and didn't notice at first, but it seems that our media is growing in size by large amounts on each capture.

We image a machine, sysprep, use ImageX to capture, import to MDT, create new media.

Last two iterations seem to have grown by 12 GB or so each; with no content change large enough to explain (did updates for last 3 months on one, and added hyperv on next.)

It's almost like it might be saving a copy of the PAGEFILE each time?

Any ideas?

Any way to cut it down?

Windows Image System Manager

I've got two questions about sysprepping an unattended install for Win2k8 R2.  TIA to anyone who can answer one or both questions!

1.  I've read the definition of each config passes however I'm still confused.  There are config options, such as "...-Windows-International-Core_6.1...neutral",  which can be added to multiple config passes.  If we take a look at the aforementioned config, it can be added either to the specialize or to the oobe pass.  What's the difference?  Why would I added to one or the other?

2.  I see we can configure whether Windows will get its network info from DHCP or not.  Would it be possible to tell Windows to get an IP from DHCP while still being able to statically specify DNS servers through unattend.xml (i.e.: just pretend that no matter what, DNS server can't be served via DHCP)?

Thanks for your help!

Erik
