In MDT2010, I used to have different rules based on which task was selected.  I did this by doing this to my rules file:

[Settings]
Priority=TaskSequenceID,Default
[Default]
some rules for default
[1]
some rules for task id 1

And all was well.  Now since upgrading to 2012, it's ignoring this.  I cannot for the life of me get it to use different rules for each task sequence.  It seems to me that rules are processed *before* the task is selected.  I'm able to have custom rules for chassis type, model, serial, gateway, etc - but not task sequence.

Does anyone have this working, am I missing something obvious?

I recently converted to MDT 2012 after running MDT 2010 for awhile (which has been great). Johan had written up an article (http://www.deployvista.com/Home/tabid/36/EntryID/139/language/en-US/Default.aspx) that allows you to do settings per task sequence without the use of a database which was amazing for our environment. After switching to 2012 this no longer works. Is there something I'm missing or what do I need to change to make this work?

HI All,

  We have replaced few new HDD and setup is failed with following error.

 Any idea? Image is windows 7 . i have installed manually into the disk no problem?

Hi All!

I have a Win XP machine and I want to upgrade it to Win 7 using MDT 2012. I don't use SCCM.

Win XP has 2 partitions (C and D) and I need to migrate all data from both partitions to Win 7.

I also need to have just one partition on Win 7 (C) and need to migrate all data from D partition  to a folder on C drive Win 7.

Can it be done using refresh scenario? And How can I reach this goal?

I put some additional drivers and softwares under the  Applications of MDT Deployment share, then deployment without problem, then I found I need also put the .Net Framework 4.0 into, so I did it and rebuild the image for deployment.

The depoyment jobs done when deploy device drivers and softwares, only while deploying the .Net  Framework 4.0 will make the deployment progress bar freezed, then the deployment stop going, I only can do is enable the task manager to end the .Net Framework 4.0 setup program, then the deployment job can keep go on.

Then I try to setup the .Net Framework 4.0 separately, and it ask a reboot,  so I reboot PC and then login the Windows to do the  .Net Framework 4.0 setup without problem.

So I think I maybe can make a reboot before the .Net Framework 4.0 setup, so I let the PC reboot after the first application installation completed, but this reboot is under the MDT deployment procedure. However, after the reboot to setup the .Net Framework 4.0 still failed and make progress freezed.

My guess is the MDT2012 deployment maybe have some conflict with .Net 4.0 Framework setup program.

Current I can only to setup the .Net Framework 4.0 after all deployment completed and reboot to login Windows.

Do anyone experience such symptom?

I'm using Deployment Workbench [Version 5.1.1642.01] for imaging. I've recently been getting an error when Setup is checking the video performance. I've tried different workstations and also using different Wim files [custom and directly from the Win 7 SP1 x64 iso].

So i have successfully deploy MDT 2012 , and i tried to deploy to one of my machines, no problem whatsoever.

My concern is that when i tried out multiple deployment concurrently ( 6 concurrent deployment to be specific), the installation gets slowed down horribly. Loading the .wim image during PXE boot requires roughly 5 to 6 minutes, and the installation OS is noticeably longer compared to single deployment (didn't manage to get an exact time reading on this).

Understandably that the deployment will get slower during the concurrent deployment, I'd like to know that if MDT was built this way or is there anyway i could enhance the speed for concurrent deployment? (FYI the MDT server is running on a  physical server having all the resources to itself, i.e. 64 GB RAM 24 cores etc.)

Hello All<o:p></o:p>

I need some help to tell me what I am doing wrong. I am using Hyper V and trying to capture a image of Windows 7 x64. From within the OS I run the Litetouch.wsf from the deployment share. I get the normal MDT Wizard windows. I pick my capture task sequence and everything looks like it is running fine sys prep happens and I but back into windows PE I start to process the rules again and I am taken back to the Select task sequence screen in WinPE.  If I pick the capture task sequence again the deployment fails. <o:p></o:p>

I am trying to deploy a win8 image on a new surface pro.  I currently have mdt2012 deploying win8 images using LTI deployment.  I have a fully automated task sequence (PXE or USB boot) that names computer, joins domain, WSUS updates, multicast, etc.  This works flawless on desktops/laptops.  Question is, can I incorporate this same procedure and boot from a USB on the Surface and run this same task sequence?  I have disabled secure boot on surface.  can I run an NTFS bootable USB stick on the Surface? or does it have to be FAT32?  any information to get me going would be great.  Thanks

 Hello,

during the deployment of windows 7 i am getting the following error :

Console > [ RETRY ] Restoring C:\Windows\winsxs\Manifests\x86_a92950f1318c1609e4af79ff489de55d_b03f5f7f11d50a3a_6.1.7601.17755_none_bd5124cff2e7e56d.manifest again (Error = 1450)

Event 41002 sent: ZTI ERROR - Unhandled error returned by LTIApply: Error in loading DLL (48)

After this deployment is ended.

Anybody who knows howto fix this?

Any suggestions of the best method to expire USB media produced from MDT? I hjave found a few post via the good old Web, but thought I would see what other may have used. Note we are not using SCCM...

Disclaimer:  I'm an MDT n00b and barely know how to do anything other than the basics.

The odd problem:  Computers that I deploy Windows 7 to using MDT will NOT (after deployement is complete) pass credentials to our proxy (Smoothwall - NTLM Authentication) and cannot not access the internet.  It doesn't matter the flavor of Windows 7: 32bit/64bit or Pro/Ultimate same result.  Does this on an unpatched machine with only IE8 or a fully patched machine with IE9.  I've diddled all the security and connection settings in IE that I know to diddle with the same result. And it's not just an IE problem.  It does it with Firefox, too.  Now getting to intranet sites is no problem... this is strictly an internet proxy authentication issue.

Now... why am I asking the MDT forum about this?  Because I can load Windows 7 the old fashioned way with a DVD made from the same ISO that I used when setting up MDT and it works fine. So  MDT must be doing something differently when deploying Win 7.  As a side note, when I deploy Windows 8 using MDT we do not have this issue. Maybe Microsoft just wants me to upgrade? :)

Everything else about the computer seems quite normal.  No undetected drivers.  Windows activates normally.  I can join the domain either during or after the process.  Install applications automatically.  I mean the whole MDT process seems to be working great otherwise. 

Help?  Please?

Hi,

how do we manage version for image in MDT. Is there any guidence around this or best practices followed.

Is there any way to push version details

to machines when imaged through MDT

? Just want to put the image information to the deployed machines.

Hi,

I am doing below to patch the end deployed device completely but I have below query. Any pointer would be appreciated.

During Build and capture I am using windowsupdate (enable it in TS) and updating the image and capture it as WIM. Then during deployment, I have packages step to install updates. I want to know if MDT deploys the update again during deployment even if the same update is been deployed during build and capture phase? or just skip the package? thanks

I was having trouble using a USB external hard drive with MDT so I started using a USB Flash drive.  I preped the drive and copied the content and I booted to it.  Directly after selecting the USB storage as my boot option I have a black screen with a blinking cursor.  Not sure why, anyone seen this before?

I'm using MDT2012 and vmware workstation 9 but i try to inject the NIC drivers in my WINPE for a windows 7 image x86 but i can't find the right drivers for my ISO?

the Log file is telling me the drivers is still missing

I'm trying to automate (as much as I can) the deployment of WES7 to some Thin Clients.

I can capture and deploy WIM files manually but as soon as I try using MDT LiteTouch It fails. Well, it actually completes successfully without errors but no image is applied to the Thin Clients disk.

The best I can come up with is that there is some size check being done through "LTIApply.wsf" or "LTIDiskUtility.vbs". 

Is there a way to skip these checks?

Hi,

If we are running MDT deployment on exiting machine (re- deploying image) , Does MDT 'Format and Partition' just clean the disk or does it clean, Format and then recreates partitions the disk before applying image?

any guidance will be appreciated on default behavior of MDT 'Format and Partition' function. Thanks
