Copyprofile Windows 8.0 bug

0
0

When using the "copyprofile" option is my profile is corrupt. This is only for the use of Windows 8 and copyprofile. This problem does not occurs under Windows 7 and even Vista

What happens:

1) when you go to Google.be you get for the 1st time the question "start faster with search: Add google to your start page". When you click No, this will not remember, once you close Internet Explorer and reopen, the question comes back. This problem does not occur when "copyprofile" is not used

2) when you want to log into outlook.com, everything seems to work normally. But when you want to create a new mail, for example, you can only type the text down, but you can not use the functions for formatting text. You can push on that button, but this is not functioning. This problem also does not occur when copyprofile not used.

Copy profile does work correctly with Windows 7, and  I do this as follows:

1) I install Windows with MDT without Unattend.XML copyprofile
2) add my registry settings that make my desired adjustments
3) Image is uploaded sysprept because I use docapture = yes
4) fresh created image is moved to the folder where the final image will be placed
5) Windows is installed with MDT to the customer's device with Unattend.XML copyprofile

To get the job done with Windows 8 (which is cumbersome and not fully automated)

a) I install my image on a device
b) make my adjustments via registry in a script
c) I do a sysprep with copyprofile in Unattended.xml
d) Created image I put in MDT with Unattend.XML with copyprofile
e) Image is uploaded sysprept because I use docapture = yes
f) that image is moved to the folder where the final image will be placed
g) Windows is installed with MDT to the customer his device without Unattend.XML copyprofile

After many tests I have come to this conclusion
- The problem specific occours with copyprofile, even when i don't make any adjustments at all, the same corruption occours
- Problem also occurs when MDT  is not used

Software used:
- Server 2012 with WDS + MDT
- MDT 2012 update 1

Steps used:

Selection Profiles and PC Architecture

0
0

Hi,

I hope someone can advise me and point me in the correct direction. This is probably relatively simple to achieve.

What I would like to do is filter the applications which are selectable on the applications page of the Task Sequence Wizard. At present, I have got x64 options for Office 2013, Visio 2013 and Project 2013, and I have x86 options for the same software. What I would like to be able to do is present only the x64 or the x86 software, depending on the architecture of the PC being built. I need the Technician to be able to select applications, so I can't make them mandatory - for example, some clients will need Visio, others won't, so I don't want to hide software, unless it is the wrong architecture.

I also need to be able to present x64 or x86 OEM Software, such as Dell tools/Utilities, again filtered by Architecture, so that Desktop x64 applications are visible on x64 PCs but not on x86 Laptops. I hope this makes sense. I have bundled Dell applications based on architecture and chassis type, since for example, Webcam software is not required on most Desktop PCs, so it won't deploy to a Dell Desktop.

I believe that this should be achieveable using application bundles, or maybe a Selection profile.

Has anyone done this before, I'm sure its a common request. If so, please can someone point me at online instructions or guides on the step bny step process, or failing that, a broad overview of what to do?

Many Many Thanks

John

Creating and using a fully patched base image

0
0

I'm new to this so please be patient while I try to make sense of the MDT process.

After reading a post on Michael Niehaus' blog it only makes sense to start from a fully patched base OS image.

http://blogs.technet.com/b/mniehaus/archive/2011/05/16/creating-a-fully-patched-image-using-mdt-2010-lite-touch.aspx

I understand that using litetouch to create the reference image is going to be my best approach, but using a fully patched base seems to be a good place to start for creating either a thick or thin reference.

My question is about what state to leave the the patched base in depending on the whether I plan on building a thick or thin reference image and how to setup the task sequence for either. Based on my earlier experience with imagex, for at least the thick image I would want to deploy my patched base image to a VM and have it boot into "Audit mode." Would the same be correct for creating a litetouch deploy? Or am I just missing something about how MDT works?

Restore IP Address configuration after os deploy

0
0

Hi, this is my first question in this forum so i hope you guys can help me.

I have a non DHCP environment, i'm planning to give a bootable disc to my techs so they can deploy bare metal computers just by setting the ip address during the WinPE welcome wizard. Everything works fine until the computer reboots, it looses all network settings and can't continue the task sequence.

Is there a way to store the ip address given in the WinPE wizard and restore it later on in the task sequence? I've been searching for this a lot.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I forgot to mention that i'm using MDT2012 Update 1 with Server 2012

Automated Templates MDT 2012

0

I wonder if anyone can help me with the following issue.

I am trying to automate the creation of templates which we want to use for deploying virtual machines. What I have so far is this.

I have MDT 2012 setup so that it installs a machine from scratch with our Server Task sequence. I have a database setup so that it matches a machine based on MAC and it basicly runs MDT fully unattended for that VM template.

I created an ISO for the deployment and have vCenter Orchestrator convert the template to a VM, mounts the ISO, change boot order, start the VM which begins the MDT deployment (DoCapture=SYSPREP, FinishAction=SHUTDOWN), waits for it to finish, and undo's the boot order and dismounts the ISO, and converts back to template.

I want this "workflow" to update the template automatically when there are changes like wsus or new version of .Net in the template etc.

The problem is when I deploy a VM from this template outside of MDT, like when you clone a VM with customizations from vCenter. I get the following error when it boots for the first time.

"Cannot find C:\LTIBootstrap.vbs"

So my question is how to create a clean sysprep which I can use outside of MDT ;)

MDT 2012 GPO Pack - Action Center

I was planning on creating a GPO pack for MDT 2012 to disable the Action Center during my TS. When I try to locate that setting group in SCM it isn't available. When I go to gpedit.msc on my machine the setting I want to enable is:

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar\Remove the Action Center icon

Any ideas how I can enable this setting with a GPO Pack?

MDT 2012 update1 machines are not part of the domain USMT

0

Hello all

My current environment consists of windows 7 and xp machines. All machines at this point are *not* part of the domain, and all users log into the machine as "user" they are not logging into the domain. All users do have AD accounts, and they use Citrix to access 95% of all applications. I want to use MDT 2012 using the "Lite-touch" deployment method using USB drives. I basically want to copy the image to a bootable USB drive, pop it into the workstation and upgrade the workstation to windows 7 enterprise. My question is how does USMT work if the machine is currently not part of domain? I need to copy the users data that's currently stored under the "user" on the local machine to the AD domain account.

Example

user logs into local workstation that's not part of the domain as "user". As part of the OS refresh process I need to reimage the machine, join it to the domain, then as part of the USMT process copy all data from the user profile to the users AD account.

is this possible to do, using the ADMT and USMT tools?

After Capture : No Physical adapters present, cannot deploy over wireless

Hello,

sometimes after capturing an image i receive the following error:

Howto fix this?

Root Cause/Actual Fix for No Physical adapters present, cannot deploy over wireless

0
0

I tend to get the 'No physical adapters present, cannot deploy over wireless' error periodically.  While I'm certain I've seen it when deploying, I happened to be sysprepping & capturing [a VMWare virtual machine] when I received it.

All is well however:

  • sysprepped [reference] image without error
  • captured without error
  • [reference] system reboots & boots fine
  • successfully imported captured image
  • successfully deployed captured image

So several questions...

  • Anyone know what the root cause of that is?
  • Is there an actual way to fix that?  (Perhaps adding some [enhanced/additional] logic to whatever script is called that generates the error?)
  • Why do I get it 5 times?

Note:

  1. I'm fully aware of leveraging SkipSummary=YES/SkipFinalSummary=YES - just looking for a real reason why that's even an 'issue'
  2. This was covered elsewhere (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/mdt/thread/894ee6d2-a7b9-427f-a9b7-9a43dcc04d27/) but I didn't want to threadjack.

Many thanks!

Hi, colleagues.

I have a problem with.... not sure were it is, but I have the following:

1. My CustomSettings.ini file

[Settings] Priority=Default Properties=MyCustomProperty [Default] OSInstall=Y SkipCapture=YES SkipAdminPassword=YES SkipProductKey=YES SkipComputerBackup=YES SkipBitLocker=YES JoinDomain=mydomain.local DomainAdmin=svc_mdt DomainAdminDomain=mydomain.local DomainAdminPassword=P@$$w0rd! TimeZone=145 TimeZoneName=Russian Standard Time UserExit=cleanMAC.vbs ComputerName=ws-#CleanMac("%macaddress%")#

2. UserExit script is simple, and made for cleaning MAC adress (by default 00:00:00:..., after 000000...)

3. But after succsefull install, I have a different ComputerName with uknown MAC. Same log, n-strings later:

I know what HostName and Computer name is different properties, but after installation I see my machine name is equal to value setuped in HostName.

Apply GPO Pack Offline Media Does Not Apply

0

Hey All -

I've got an issue with MDT 2012 that when I boot to the MDT server and run my task sequence from the server, the GPO Pack applies just fine. However, when I create media the task sequence runs andclaims it applies successfully, but nothing shows up in the local policy editor. If I run the command locally out of the task sequence, then the pack applies just fine.

Anyone had issues with this?

TIA -

w7 and 0f2010 deployment

I would like to get some suggestions/real life examples for deployment/migration of/to Windows7 and Office 2010.

Currently 1500 XP\Office2003 computers. This park supported by WDS.

April 2014 coming and the question (that I mentioned a year ago :)) starts to become hot.

My MDT2012 is up and ready for basic deployment. I captured couple of target laptops and pc models.

The images contain required apps and with forum help there is no problem for Office post install. I even can include Office in the image for saving time.

As I see it now, the simple way is to prepare 50 computers in the shop and replace 50 in production and so on...

Let say group of technicians will be assigned to this task.

Also, the network is 100Mb and in the shop a deployment will be on 1Gb.

Do you see it as OK plan or could be something more efficient? Configuration Manager is under discussion and I am playing with it.

Other ideas for the described scenario?

Thanks.

Win7 + IE10 Slipstream error

I am trying to install a test image with IE10 slipstreamed in and getting an error "Windows could not parse or process unattend answer file [C:\windows\Panther\unattend.xml] for pass [specialize]. A component or setting specified in the answer file does not exist."  I used an original Win7 Ent SP1 image + IE10 and then imported full source as if from original DVD / ISO.  Then created a new sequence and problem still occurs.

I think it is being caused by:

<component name="Microsoft-Windows-IE-InternetExplorer" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
  <IEWelcomeMsg>false</IEWelcomeMsg>
</component>

Which I am not sure is a setting I set in MDT setup or a default setting?  This setting has been removed from IE10.
