Activating windows during deployment using a MAK key, without internet connection.

$

Hey everyone, and thanks for any help in advance.

I'm experiencing some problems when I try to deploy windows server 2012 using a MDT media. I'm trying to get windows activated automatically, using a MAK (Multi-Activation-Key), which works perfectly, as long as the computer is attached to the internet.

However, if the computer doesn't have an internet connection, it simply boots up with windows 'not activated' and no signs of the MAK being implemented in then media.
I was hoping for some window/wizard, which could guide the deployer through activating the MAK via telephone or something, but nothing appears; it simply tells me the deployment finished with 0 errors and 0 warnings.

Any ideas on what to do, to ensure some sort of support for customers without internet connection?

MDT 2012 + WinPE 4.0 + VMWare ESXi - Hangs "Windows is loading files" booting into PE

$

I'm trying out using MDT 2012 and WinPE 4.0, upgrading things. I've recreated things following templates in MDT 2012. I'm also using ADK and WinPE 4.0.

Issue I'm seeing is upon restarting into WinPE I see the screen showing Windows is Loading Files and the progress bar. I see the first one load through and then the second slower one load through. Once progress bar fills, it just does nothing and I'm left looking at a complete progress bar.

I was trying obviously first using VMWare ESX 5.0 with no success, subsequently tried a couple of physical machines and those had no problems. I still want to get working on ESX since that will help speed up development and testing of the rest of the stuff I need to upgrade. Tried a variety of SCSI controllers within ESX vms. I tried VMWare Workstation 9 with the mixed results as with the LSI Logic Parallel SCSI controller had success but not the others.

I of course at first tried making sure drivers were added with no change, although that still could be an issue with drivers I found to put in being incorrect.

More interestingly though is that I can of course install Windows 8 from install media just fine on these hardware, as well as if I create an ISO from the deployment share and boot to that it works just fine, so it seems to just be an issue when booting to WinPE on disk.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Unattended Task Sequence for Image Deployment

$

Hi all. I am currently using MDT 2012 to deploy a Windows 7 image within our organization.  I've made this step as "unattended" as possible by editing the CustomSettings.ini (remove all user intervention except for providing the hostname), but I would like to achieve the same by editing the Task Sequence.

Is there a way to achieve the same goal by modifying the corresponding Task Sequence instead of modifying CustomSettings.ini?

MDT 2012 OU Membership Based On Task Sequence

Hello everyone,

Currently, our computers are automatically joined to the domain and placed in a single generic OU during the deployment process, which is GREAT. However, we'd now like to place computers in different OU's/containers based upon Task Sequence.

Is anyone else doing this, or have any input? Any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

MDT Media deployent via USB

Ok I have performed Media deployment via USB many times over the years, so I must be overlooking something this time. Here is the what is happening:

Performing a refresh via USB executing Litetouch.vbs from the deploy\scripts folder on the USB drive. Scanstate runs and saves the data using hardlinking.(works perfect)

Then the client reboots into WINPE and then when the deployment should pick backup I see the message"Please reinsert themedia (CD, DVD, or USB) needed to complete thedeployment." While the USB drive is still plugged in I hit ok on the missing media message screen and it does nothing.

If I simply reboot the client it succesfuly picks back up and completes the deployment. My Brootstrap.ini contains the following as required for USB media deployment:

[Settings]

Priority=Default

[Default]
SkipBDDWelcome=YES

So the question is why do I get the "Please reinsert themedia (CD, DVD, or USB) needed to complete thedeployment

Silent installation of Visio 2013 using MDT

Hello,

I am to create a silent installation of visio 2013.

This is working ok using setup.exe /config vispror.ww\config.xml.

Only the activation is not working.

Normally this is setup using the Microsoft Customization Tool, but this in not included in the installation-media of Visio 2013.

When adding the admin folder from Office2013, I will get the installation-options for Office2013 instead of Visio 2013.

Are there any admin-templates available for Visio2013 or do I need another way to activate Office 2013?

Thx

How to deploy a Windows OS through PXE over WAN

$

I'm a newbie on this topic but I'm really interested on it so any help would be appreciated. Here are my questions:

1. Do I need Windos Server OS installed on my desktop computer to deploy a Windows OS on a client's machinethrough SCCM? SCCM, MDT and all this words are not very familiar to me so I'm sorry if I'm not on the right way to do this.Which tool should I use if I want to make the OS deployment over WAN? Is it possible? Should I try first over LAN?

2. Could you help me with a short guide or related topic about his matter? Which are themain keywords?

Thanks to everyone.

Desktop Background Bug post MDT 2012 UDI Deployment?

Environment -  MDT 2012 Update 1 + SCCM 2012, UDI Task Sequence with multiple captured wims being used and applied correctly

Bug - Has anyone seen where post deployment this image is set as Desktop Background?  Even stranger is if I select Personalize on the Desktop it shows the Desktop Background as default and if I click on it and exit out, without saving changes, it then applies the correct background?

MDT and Adobe Acrobat Standard AND Reader 11- Unattended setup please

Hello yet again gang.

Looking for unattended install of Acrobat Standard 11.x AND Reader (separately) in my Win 7 image. I've searched without an answer, so I'll give it a go here.

Just to stave off any confusion, I'd like to work on STANDARD 11x first please...

My Quiet Install Command is :  AcroStan.msi DISABLE_ARM_SERVICE_INSTALL=1

I took this off the web strictly to get started, and it does kick off the installer, but again, it's all manual clicking from here.  I'd like to disable the ARM service too though, and watch its progress as well.. Are their any other switches or settings I need to add or that you recommend?

MDT and Lotus Notes 8.5.3. won't deploy without interaction

$

Hi gang, BWB the rookie again,

In the Deployment Workbench (V6.00), under Applications, I added IBM Lotus Notes 8.5.3 (and wouldn't mind adding FixPack3 either) . I want it to automatically install while the image is being built with no interaction from me, but every time I choose the app, it stops at the config page and asks to proceed manually. It will install so I know the files are there and good, but simply won't go automatically.

More info:

We use the full administrator, designer with client EXE (but leave the admin and designer portion unchecked). So basically, we use one executable for all installs.

The Standard Application/Quiet install command is [ setup.exe /s /v"SELECTINSTALLFEATURES=Activities,SametimeUI, Feedreader /qb+"]  (minus brackets of course)

Am I missing something? Or adding too much?  I'm noting the actual exe doesn't match the listed "setup.exe", could this be an issue too?

Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

I've been struggling with the SysPrep/Capture task sequence for the past two days with the new Windows 2012 OS. I can manually invoke the sysprep, but why isn't the sysprep working?

Is there a step that i am missing? I launching the litetouch.vbs and continuously am getting the same error. My OS selected in the task sequence is Windows 2012 Standard and my reference image is Windows 2012 Standard. The server is not joined to the domain.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Importing Microsoft Office Updates in MDT

Hello,

I am having an MDT Task-sequence with Microsoft Office as an application.

In the time there are many updates available after the latest office service pack.

What is the best/easiest way to import the latest Microsoft Office updates in MDT without adding Microsoft Office into the reference-image?

Thx

Custom Pane in Wizard with LDAP Search

$

Hi Guys,

I am hoping someone can assist me.  In my deployment, I have SKIPPED almost all of the panes except for the Task Sequence and the Summary Page.  What I would like to accomplish is to add 1 pane before both which will prompt for our Business-Related information.  I would like the pane to ask for the following:

1.  Credentials that will be able to join the computer to the domain (the technician's AD admin credentials)
2.  Enter a user's name and have it return the user's information from AD (Basically an LDAP query).
3.  Computername will be generated from a naming convention:
     - Site or location chosen by the technician during build + Active Directory UserID of the user it is being built for which is returned by the LDAP query from the previous step.  It will then have a check to see if the computer account already exists in AD.

I would like all of this prior to the build actually starting so that there are no staging OUs, Computer renames, etc... during the actual MDT Build Process.

I saw this and thought if I can get tweets online, there must be a way to run a LDAP search.

MDT 2012 - Feature Question - Deploying Applications

Can you install applications to already deployed workstations using MDT 2012? For example, could we use MDT to deploy the new Java Update to our clients? I know this is possible in SCCM, but we don't have SCCM or any other similar product.  If there is another free alternative for something like this please offer your suggestions.

Thank You,

MDT 2010 Injected drivers not found post-reboot

I am performing a NEWCOMPUTER deployment type on a HP DL580 G7 server.  Server is able to PXE boot and view the MDT Wizard, choose my task sequence, and install my image.  When it completes its first reboot and starts Windows 2008 R2 Ent, it no longer is able to see it's network drivers. I have tried setting inject drivers task to "install all" from profile as well as "Install only matching" driver.  My BDD.log shows the following:

Windows Deployment Service w2k3r2

Hello all,

i got a strange problem with the WDS, I try to descripe whats going on:

Some months ago i set up the WDS on a 2003r2 Server and after some troubles it worked perfect. I installed on some PC and latops Win7, worked all fine.

Last week we got 16 new PC´s (all same type, Lenovo M72e) and i want to setup 5 at the same time and there was no problem. 1 Day after that i want to continue the setup but suddenly only 4 PC found the WDS server and the last one did not found it. I tried it with some other network cables but it was still not working. So i checked the server but all seems to work fine. I tried to install it on some other PC´s but the same problem, they dont find the wds server and i dont know why. And now the strange thing, I started the network boot on an other Laptop and here it was working, so only on the PC´s is not working anymore.

How can this be possible? Is there any solution, because its not working for all, only for some ?!?

I hope you can understand my text and can help me.

Thanks and best regards

"BDDRun has stopped working" prompts on some tasks/final reboots

Hello all,

I am using MDT 2012 Update 1 (the latest) and I don't know what the change is but somehow starting last month, some tasks during MDT task sequence start prompting for "XXX has stopped working" and I have to click "Close the program" once (per prompt) to finish off on the final reboot. (Everything looks great when I check it back)

I have "modified" Johan's Hydration DF3 for

  • Windows 2008 R2
  • SQL Server 2012 CU3 <== Prompt for that
  • SCCM 2012 SP1 <== Prompt for that

Can you think of any way to disable that prompt (e.g. BDDRun has stopped working) to naturally reboot without any issue?

Thanks,

Young-

Unable to add to dependencies tab of applications or bundles

$

I held off updating from MDT 2010 to 2012 Update 1 for as long as possible, not wanting to break something that was working.  Turns out that's exactly what happened

First, the basics.  No problems actually upgrading the deployment share.  I did make a copy of the share as a backup before upgrading it, so that's still available to me if it becomes necessary. After the upgrade, I did initially have troubles with the boot images not correctly running the wizard, but I soon discovered that the boot images generated by 2010 wouldn't work with the the deployment share once upgraded to 2012. I simply needed to generate new boot images under 2012 Update 1 to replace the boot images created by 2010, and that problem was also solved.

The problem I now have is this: since upgrading, I can no longer add applications under the Dependencies tab of any application or application bundle. I've successfully created a new application with source files since the upgrade, so that's still working. But when I attempt to add any application to the Dependencies tab of any application or application bundle, it simply never appears in the list of applications. No error message is displayed and everything appears to be in order otherwise; when I click the "Add" button on the Dependencies tab of an application, the "Select an item" window appears just as it should, and lets me select an application from the list.  But when I click OK, the window is dismissed, and the application never appears in the list.

I've uninstalled and re-installed all the WAIK and MDT components, and then went so far as to install the components on another server, just in case my machine was somehow messed up.  Still no change - behaves exactly the same when administered from the Deployment Workbench of either machine. (And no, I don't have MDT open on both machines open at the same time).

My first thought is that there's some kind of permissions problem, but I'm not sure a) which folder on the deployment share houses the application bundles, or b) what the permissions should look like.  I've discovered I can remove applications from the dependency tab, but I can't add them.  It makes no difference whether I try to edit an existing one or create a new one.

Google has turned up exactly zero hits on this particular problem. I certainly don't want to nuke my deployment share and start over.  Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for all assistance.
