deploying windows using a uniqu ID

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone can help me if i had about 100 workstations and needed to deploy certain images to certain machines how would i go about this using MDT
Im trying to think of a way to use the MAC address or something as a unique identifier by running a script on a users machine that starts a lite touch deployment. however if i had multiple machines all with different images I only want the machine im on to deploy that image for that machine and not give a list of all available task sequences.

if that makes sense ???

USB-Media unmounted before installing Applications

I succeeded to make a USB-Key for for Light Touch installation.

after installing Win10, he asks me to re-insert the media.

Indeed the USB-key was unmounted (I verified by using cmd.exe via Taskmanager)

When I pull the USB-Key and I reinsert it, he continue to install the applications.

Do you have an idea why this happend ? The logs did’nt help me to find the error.
Thank you !

When I run all deployments at the same time only one shows up in the monitor at any given time.

MDT Distributed environment not working.

We have a fully working MDT / WDS environment, but now we have setup a MDT server for a sub location outside our network, which have a vpn tunnel on router/switch level. and this site have full accces to the main office resources.

We have setup our mdt server and new mdt server according to this article:
Replication works great. The second mdt server is read only.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/deploy-windows-mdt/build-a-distributed-environment-for-windows-10-deployment

Change the boot.ini to our needs with the default gateway of both locations and updated the boot images and replace this image in WDS.

But on the sub location when starting via F12 it gives this error/message
On the main locations it still works fine.
The sub location uses the WDS server from the main location for now. We also tested it with the winpe boot iso from USB and also the same result.

Or it gives this prompt.

Do we need to change the network UNC path in the MDT properties?

Error Specified image file did not contain a resource section

I'm looking for some help here.  I'm using deployment workbench.

I have created a model custom image and created a custom wim file.  I have imported it into deployment workbench with source files in operating systems.

I have created a task sequence pointing to that operating system.  When I do properties of the task then into the OS info then edit Unattend.xml, it gives me an error of "the specified image file did not contain a resource section".

In addition, when I try to deploy this image to a computer, it fails.  I get the error:  Make sure the required files are available--setup failed to applying image\\server share...wim rc=31.  I'm wondering if this has to do with the issue above?  And not having an unattend.xml file.

I have deployed this image wim via Windows deployment services successfully.  Now I'm trying to integrate WDS with Deployment Workbench with this image wim and it fails.

Any pointers would be great.

MDT 2013u1 - Deployment Workbench - Powershell is Required

Hello all,

I have MDT 2013 update 1 installed on a Windows server 2012 R2 box and everything has been running flawless for about 8 months now.  Last weekend I installed Microsoft updates on the machine and after rebooting I can't get the Deployment Workbench to open.  When I attempt to open it, I get the following error.

"Powershell is required to use the Deployment Workbench. Please install PowerShell then relaunch Deployment Workbench."

  • I've uninstalled all of the updates one by one, but that did not resolve the issue.
  • I have verified in Roles & Features that PowerShell is installed.
  • Followed the steps in this article: http://sccmguy.com/2012/04/25/mdt-2012-with-server-2012-powershell-initialization-error/

None of the above fixed the issue.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Dirty Environment Detected MDT In-Place Update to Windows 10

Hi Guys,

I am running an in place upgrade task sequence on MDT 2013 Update 2 from windows 7 to windows 10.  95% of the workstations complete successfully with about 5% (so far) failing to complete.  When the devices that are getting stuck reboot I experience the dirty environment prompt, which from most of my research appears to be due to an unexpected reboot.  I am not installing any applications which would trigger such a reboot, I am however running the pre and post application windows update tasks which installs windows patches and drivers that have been posted to windows update for the device. I am thinking this may be due to the multiple driver updates taking place after the upgrade though I am unable to identify why (As this is all handled through windows update, I am not injecting any drivers loaded into MDT).  Any ideas here? I do notice on the devices failing I am receiving the following errors in the BDD.log which I am not receiving on the successful devices.

FAILURE (Err): -2147024770 0x8007007E: CreateObject(Microsoft.BDD.Utility) - ZTIGather 6/26/2016 9:41:41 PM	0 (0x0000)
FAILURE (Err): 424: GetVirtualizationInfo for Gather process - Object required ZTIGathe 6/26/2016 9:41:41 PM	0 (0x0000)

And the ZTI!GetAllFixedDrives on the successfully devices returns C: D: E:  / where on the failures only returns C: D:

Failure

ZTIUtility!GetAllFixedDrives = C: D:	LiteTouch	6/26/2016 9:48:33 PM	0 (0x0000)

VS.

Sucess

ZTIUtility!GetAllFixedDrives = C: D: E:	LiteTouch	6/24/2016 6:32:37 PM	0 (0x0000)

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I try to move the success rate closer to 100%.  I can post more of the logs if needed. Thanks in advance!

Remove (Unpin) Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Store Shortcuts from StartMenu in Windows 10 1909

Dear Experts,

I am trying to unpin/remove the Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Store shortcuts from StartMenu during OSD using SCCM . I have tried the following methods but in vain

1. Export custom Start layout from a reference windows 10 pc and import that again on to a target pc using powershell commands called out in SCCM Task Sequence. However after the build is complete, I observe that all other shortcuts in startmenu layout are getting removed except for Edge and Store.

Can you please suggest if there is any way those shortcuts can be removed completely from StartMenu. I am really stuck at this stage.

Thanks

image deploy issue

hi ,

We use MDT to deploy our windows 10 images, and sor far so good, but last week, we decide to upgrade the image from 1809 to 1909.

what we do :

1.  uninstall the ADK and PE and MDT, then re-install the latest version.  (this might be stupid)

2.  capture the win 10 1909 image (capture is working fine)

3.  create deploy task and deploy, we in this step, we got below error:

then we try to deploy the previous windows 10 image (1809),  but got the same issue....same error code....

how to fix this ?

ADK 2004 - HTA in IE9, 10 & 11 mode not working.

Hi :)

I posted this elsewhere, but this seems like a better place, so I'll try here as well.

With ADK 2004 (build 19041) I create a simple WinPE ISO with WinPE-HTA and WinPE-Scripting packages added - all good. But a HTA in IE9, 10 or 11 mode does not allow simple text field input (IE7 mode works, but has other issues/limitations). Same problem with the ADK preview build 19624, but works just fine in the good old ADK 1903 (18362). Am I missing something here? Here is a script to re-create the problem.

copype amd64 C:\WinPE_x64

How to apply unattended.xml when applying a wim file from a bootable stick

Hy i am trying to apply a wim file to a new laptop, but i want to include the unattended file to skip some of the windows install steps like account creation and so on. I can't find a way to apply the unattended file. What is the order of applying a unattended file? First apply the wim files using dsm and then the unattended?

Also i found an article on microsoft but i dont understand the syntax . Dism /image:C:\test\offline /Apply-Unattend:C:\test\answerfiles\myunattend.xml .  What does image:C:\test\offline refer to?

Thanks,

Traian

Exclude offline files from USMT capture

How do you prevent USMT from trying to capture Offline Files? We are having a major problem with the tool locking up while running the CSC plugin so I just want to prevent it from running it since we don't use Offline Files.

I have created an additional XML file with:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

-<migration urlid="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/migtestapp">

-<Configuration><Applications/><Documents/>

-<WindowsComponents><component ID="network_and_internet\offline_files" migrate="no" displayname="Offline Files"/><component ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-offlinefiles-core/microsoft-windows-offlinefiles-core/settings" migrate="no" displayname="Microsoft-Windows-OfflineFiles-Core"/></WindowsComponents>

-<Policies>

-<ErrorControl><!-- Example:<fileError><nonFatal errorCode="33">*[*]</nonFatal><fatal errorCode="any">C:\Users\*[*]</fatal></fileError><registryError><nonFatal errorCode="5">*[*]</nonFatal></registryError> --></ErrorControl></Policies></Configuration></migration>

But the process still hangs. Is this file ineffective? Is it being overruled elsewhere?

Application without source files on offline media

$

Hello,

I hope I am able to describe my problem.
Most times I am using offline media.
I need Office on it. To decrease the size of the media, I thought about reducing the source files downloaded via ODT. So I have only two "Office" folders (one for VL, one for Retail).

Now I tried it with "Application without source files".
Under details I specified the source path with - an example - ".\Applications\Microsoft Office 365_2019\Retail".
When using the DeploymentShare it is working, but it is not working with the offline media.

How can I realize my goal to have no multiple office source files (Home and Business, Professional ...) with offline media?

Thank you very much.

MDT keeps detecting all computers as UEFI

Recently I setup a new MDT deployment and noticed during testing that it would always fail on legacy systems and say that it could not install the OS. After some looking at logs it keeps detecting all legacy systems as UEFI. I am running the latest 2004 ADK and latest MDT (8456). Has anyone else seen this problem?

OS 2004 with Windows Updates

$

Is it possible today to get 2004 through Windows Updates? My org will be getting the 2004 ISO for new builds, but I don't want to go to 2004 until my current VM's can be upgraded to that as well.

Just wondering what the time frame is for Windows Upgrading to 2004.

By the way, I guess there is an MDT for 2004 and ADK as well (and perhaps even a new WinPE for ADK)?

Deployment Wizard launches after OS install 1909

$

I manage the deployments for a couple local school districts and am having the same issue at both locations.

Each have their own captured versions of Windows 10 1909 (Pro or Education)

I'm using the latest MDT and ADK builds at both locations and have Updated the deployment share.

Basically, once the deployed machine boots to the OS for the first time and MDT steps in, I'm presented with the original Windows Deployment Wizard where you select your task sequence. If ignore that and restart the computer I'll get the dirty environment warning that prompts to you to start over or ignore. If I ignore, the sequence finishes without error. This behavior persists across 7 different model and 2 VMs

I can't figure out what's going on!

I can upgrade my VM's to 1909 today, but not to 2004.

I just ran Windows Updates until the Feature update was available and I went from 1809 to 1909.
Now when I run updates, it says we couldn't to the update service, RETRY.

Anyone know why I cant get past 1909? My VM's are not on a domain. They use the Network connection via my server but I've never had problems upgrading, until now.

Having an issue with Bitlocker on new Dell laptops.

I've enabled Bitlocker on my Deployment Share and have a window in the Wizard prompting if you want to encrypt or not.

It has been working perfectly, but lately 'some' Dell laptops will get encrypted and create a Bitlocker key even if you choose NO.

All of my Panasonic models behave correctly, but these new Dells have an entirely different looking BIOS. I'm not sure if there is a new setting to allow a choice to encrypt or not, but choosing NO in the Deployment Wizard doesn't seem to matter.

If anyone has insight into the newer Dell models (one being Dell 3400), I'd appreciate any info.
