"The task sequence has been suspended. LiteTouch is trying to install applications. This cannot be performed in Windows PE."

MDT 2012 Server is up and running. I mistakenly deleted a Task Sequence step called "Install Application" that I thought was not needed (I know I should have disabled it and tested).

I have a problem now, when I went to image a computer I did not get application list (This used to work before I deleted the above TS step) with items to check and uncheck for installation.  "Install Application" TS was readded but now when I try to image I get this error:

"The task sequence has been suspended. LiteTouch is trying to install applications. This cannot be performed in Windows PE."

I've tried moving it to different positions on the list (Higher and lower) to no avail, I always get the same error. Please advise.

-Thanks in advance!

MDT Error Updating Deployment Share

Hi all,

I'm not overly familiar with MDT so bear with me on this one.

Despite my inexperience, I am implementing WDS and using PXE boot along with it.  I have followed multiple guides down to the letter, all of them have recommended installing MDT also, so this is what I have done.

I have followed this guide.

Sorry if posting external links is not allowed

However, I am always failing at the step to update the deployment shares.

I keep getting this error:

=== Making sure the deployment share has the latest x86 tools ===

=== Processing LiteTouchPE (x86) boot image ===

Building requested boot image profile.

Note: Windows ADK & MDT are installed on a separate partition to the C: drive.

I have followed this guide twice, the first time I installed everything to the C: drive but this did not work, then I installed them separately to the F: drive hoping this would work, but to no avail.

I'd be grateful if someone could give me some advice as to why this is happening?

I can browse to the Local Path and the UNC path (from other domain machines)

W10 1909 MDT does not see fixed disk - OFFLINE build

I have built a few different version MDT images. 1803, 1903 and now the 1909.

The online versions work great, all different models of the HP's I have with the 1909.  including Latest 455R G6 and 705 G5 desktop

When the systems were running the offline version (ISO built thumb drive) on all versions except the 1909, it would start and build the system with no issues. except with the 455R G6 and 705 G5.

The error happens when the drive is attempted to be formatted.

We are using RUFUS for the build to the thumb drive, tried multiple thumb drive, versions of rufus. rufus different build options.

REIMAGE WITH MDT WITHOUT LOOSING USER PROFILES AND DATA

Greetings all,

I am new to MDT. I was able to implement a windows 10 LTI deployment successfully but it cleans the drive and previous user profiles are gone. This is not a bad thing as long as i'm using it for new computers. What really want now is to handle other scenarios (through TS or other means) such as reimage while keeping user data, upgrade, and so on. how can i keep these multiple scenarios and select the one i need for each case ?

I've been googling but i've not found exactely what i'm looking for.

If i'm able to achieve such configuration, I will be able to select or set a deployment,

Can anyone suggest me an approach ? I will really apreciate your help.

USMT Windows 7 to 10 creating profile folders with .0000 appendix. Duplicating user profile folders on Windows 10 machines after restore.

$

Hi Forum,

I have encountered a scenario where profiles on Windows 7 machines were migrated using admt a few years back and now when using loadstate to new Windows 7 machines these profiles are appearing duplicated on the target device.

For example profile folders are like this :

JohnDoe

JohnDoe.0000

The issue is not occurring with Profiles that were not migrated a few years back on the Windows 7 Devices.

The loadstate logs do not appear to show any errors relating to this issue with the folders being duplicated or recreated due to any permissions issues.

The profiles have one sid and are not showing duplicated on Windows 7 machines if I restore to another Windows 7 device.

How do I prevent this from happening and force USMT tocreate only one profile on the Windows 10 device?

Can I get some examples of USMT loadstatargs options in mdt that might resolve this error?

Is there something I need to modify in my UserData.xml files to force it to only migrate the one profile and not create the duplicate profile.0000?

The scantate logs shows just one user profile but this profile is duplicating once restored toa Windows 10 machine. This is my scanstate and loadstate options :

ScanStateArgs=/v:5 /c /localonly
LoadStateArgs=/v:5 /c /lac /lae

I am using the standard MigUser.xml file which is in comment below for review.

Looking for clarification on TPM password vs BIOS admin password.

In our environment, we set a BIOS admin password. You need to know this password to get back into the BIOS later.

However, during MDT cloning, now that I've added Bitlocker encryption to occur during imaging, I randomly see one error
stating that MDT failed to see the TPM password.

What exactly is that password? Is it the same as the BIOS password? When I see this error, I simply reboot to finish MDT, then
at the desktop I go into Bitlocker and Activate...then a key is instantly written to AD.

This doesn't happen every time, sometimes MDT finishes with a clear white summary screen.
I read in several places to add TpmOwnerPassword=xxxxx in the CS.INI and I guess I could, I just don't know if that is what
the BIOS admin password is. We never set up any other password in BIOS other than the supervisor password.

Any clarification of Supervisor (admin) BIOS password vs TPM password would be greatly appreciated.

MDT not found in search/Start menu folder won't open

I am working with a Windows server 2016 machine, have .net 3.5 and 4.7, WDS, Windows PE x86 x64, Windows Deployment Tools installed and Microsoft Deployment Toolkit - (6.3.8456.1000) installed. My problem is that when I go to the Start menu and try to open the folder it just sits there like it's just a picture - i.e. won't open. Also, when I search for MDT or the full name "Microsoft Deployment Toolkit", search find nothing. I am currently getting all Windows Server 2016 updates for the server and hoping that will solve my problem. Is there anything I am missing? Should I try using an older version of MDT? Any suggestions?

Changing the display size of Deploy Wizard on Panasonics.

For some reason, the MDT Wizard for deployment screen is almost full-screen on Dell computers.

On the Panasonic models, it is so small you can barely read the screens or see your input.

Is this just by design or can I make the Wizard screen pages larger on the Panasonic models?

MDT/WDS boot image Help

$

Hi Guys,

Im hope someone can help me, and thanks for taking the time to look at this.  So here goes lol

I have MDT and WDS setup and its running as it should with captures and depolyments. The issue i have is we have new machines in the company coming in that have hadware on them that i dont think windows 10 have the drivers pre installed on them. So i captured one of the new machine's up into WDS in the hope that i can test the current images i have already in the deployment shares. What im looking to know is there a way that i can push the capture back down again to the machine without using MDT? I can see that if i use a boot.wim it will install  but i dont think you get that when you do a capture on WDS. I tried creating ISO using the media on workbench but i think it needs a task sq setup as it failed on creating the media.  All im traing to do is just push the image back down, i have a test VM that im using to work on but i reckon if i can create the boot image it should be able to use it as a stand alone install like a iso kinda thing.

If anyone knows how to do it or even a link to how to do it id be really greatful as i do think/hope its something simple.

Cheers again for even looking and any help thats offered.

Stephen

Hello all

I have a new MDT Server (at a remote location) and I'm trying to do a Lite Touch installation. MDT runs up until the Install Operating System and then it fails almost immediately.

I have tried inserting a sleep command after the format of the hard drive with no luck. Can anyone tell me how to continue to troubleshoot? The other logs (other than BDD) are clean.

I don't expect a solution but if I could understand what the error was telling me it might put me on the right path.

Thanks

LTISuspend - LiteTouch is trying to perform NIC configuration error

I am having an issue with one particular model of laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1210 mini, its a piece of junk but I have to support it none the less. When PXE booting into the Deployment wizard it stops and reboots before getting to the Deployment Wizard's Welcome window.

Before the reboot it throws the error.

LiteTouch is trying to perform NIC configuration.
This cannot be performed in Windows PE.
If booting from a USB Flash Disk, please remove all drives before restarting.
Otherwise, ensure the hard disk is selected first in the boot order of the BIOS.

There is no usb drive and the hard drive is first in the boot order. I can press F8 and keep the system from rebooting. In the command console I can also see that the wired lan adapter has a valid dhcp address and I can ping just fine. The wireless is in a disconnected state but it appears that it is loading the correct drivers.

I even went as far as to create a test deployment share and regenerate a new boot os and task sequences. I only loaded the drivers for this laptop on the deployment share. Still to no luck.

ZTIWindowsUpdate

Hello,

Starting last month our MDT deployments are randomly generating the following errors while running the ZTIWindowsUpdate script.  I cant determine the cause.  I have searched for any information and nothing has helped so far. Sometimes a PC will work and sometimes it will not.  We have 1 WSUS server.  We use the same WSUS server to manually install the updates after imaging is complete (continue on error) without issue.  So I think the WSUS server is healthy.

Has anybody else run into this issue(from update log)?

Question about multiple LAN ports and Network settings.

$

I have my Tasks setting the Local Area Connection DNS, WINS and DNS suffix on all computers we image.

Now we have a Panasonic model that is detachable, so it has a LAN port on the tablet and on the keyboard base.

I've been imaging them myself with the LAN line in the tablet and all of the network settings are applied. I name the connection
Local Area Connection.

I've been told that the keyboard base adapter sometimes shows up as Ethernet or Ethernet 2. If I name it in my Task to be called Ethernet 2, will MDT create an adapter with that name and have my settings in there if I add them? Or does the pc name that port either Ethernet or Ethernet 2?

I want to try to add our network settings to both LAN ports (Local Area Connection and Ethernet 2), but not if the name of the base one varies. This way, whichever the user plugs into will have the same network settings.
