ADK 1803 - Not enough memory resources are available to process this command.

Since updating to ADK 1803 I have updated my MDT boot images.  Every time I boot a VM or physical machine with the new boot images I get the error "Not enough memory resources are available to process this command".  This is only seen if you press F8 to display the command prompt from within WinPE.  It's the very next line when it loads the command prompt and it's before the line where you can start issuing commands.  If you continue to the Deployment wizard the deployment starts and completes the entire deployment.  You probably wouldn't even notice it's there if you never look for it.  I almost want to ignore it since it doesn't seem to have any noticeable effect, but it would be nice to know why it's happening.

When I updated my boot images I complete regenerated them without error.  I have since done that again which did not help.  I'm also seeing this on a different deployment share with different boot images.

Looking at the wpeinit.log post deployment shows no failures.  I've looked at the "What's new in ADK 1803" doc and saw no major changes to WinPE or any features.  I put these features in my boot images:

DISM Cmdlets

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC/ADO) support

.NET Framework

Windows PowerShell

Storage Management Cmdlets

VMWare NIC driver for WinPE to support MDT CAPTURE function

Hello,  I have been using the same physical workstation and a VMWare Virtual Machine to capture my "standard" Windows 10 Pro 64bit image for the past year.  When I get ready to capture it from my running VM I access my imaging server (S2H in my case), and run the LiteTouch.vbs script as I have always done.  When the process gets to the Sysprep step it will copy scripts to the VM and reboot, then it starts the capture process.  Today when I executed this process and it got to the end of the SYSPREP step it popped up a "Windows cannot access \\s2h\lti$ (lti is my deployment share name) and a follow-up screen stating "Install a driver for your network adapter".  This has never happened before today.

There are three network adapters on my physical workstation, An Intel NIC driver and two VMWare virtual NIC drivers (see screen shot).

Except for our managed Windows updates I have not made any hardware changes to my physical workstation that hosts the VM and I have not changed anything in the WinPE configuration. I have joined my VM to our domain a few times to get certain Windows and other updates but no major changes I can think of.

If you could help me figure out what the problem is and how to fix this I would appreciate your input.

Computer not booting into task sequence after applying WinPE

Hi,

I wanted to capture a WIM file on a physical computer using MDT capture task sequence . I booted the computer from PXE, MDT starts and I can select the MDT task. Task starts and applies WinPE and then the computer reboots, but not in WinPE. The computer starts normally into Windows 10 which is installed.

Any idea why WinPE environmend is not starting and continues the MDT tasks?

Thanks,

USMT folder

I have a MDT server that I would like to set to backup user profiles with USMT, I would like to test USMT manually first but I see a lot of folders and I am not sure which ones are relevant: https://i.imgur.com/gm4GJLS.png

Folders

My rule files contain the following:

SLSHARE=\\REMCORPMIG02\Logs$\%ComputerName%

UDShare=\\REMCORPMIG02\MigData$
BackupShare=\\REMCORPMIG02\MigData$

UDDIR=%ComputerName%
BackupDir=%ComputerName%

ScanStateArgs=/ue:*\* /ui:Corp\* /uel:30
USMTMigFiles001=MigApp.xml
USMTMigFiles002=MigUser.xml
USMTMigFiles003=MigDocs.xml

 I am looking at editing my XML file since they are quiet old now and I would like to be sure which ones I have to edit since I see different files in different folders. All my computers are x64 laptops/workstations

USMT - Roaming Profiles Windows 7 to Windows 10

$

Hello,

I'm looking for some advice in regards to my customers migration from Windows 7 to 10 (new computers, no in-place upgrades), the client uses roaming profiles, I understand that you cannot use USMT with this, the client would like to switch to local profiles once on Windows 10, what would be the best approach for this? I don't think you can use the same roaming profile between operating systems can you?

From my understanding, the best approach would be:

  1. On Windows 7 device - copy user(s) files (desktop, documents, music, pictures etc)
  2. Build Windows 10 device via MDT
  3. Remove roaming profile from Active Directory users and computers
  4. User logs onto Windows 10 with a new local profile
  5. Copy user files to Windows 10 device

Is this correct? Can USMT be used in anyway here?

Thanks,

Alex.

MDT 2013 Deployment Share error - instead of Windows DHCP perimeter firewall DHCP gets assigns

Hi,

I am trying to configure Microsoft Deployment Toolkit in my small network,present setup is (Windows 2012 R2)AD+DNS operating in a separate server and DHCP+WDS+MDT 2013(2012 R2)all are operating in another single server,

I configured the below scenario in WDS Properties
 DHCP option enabled to--> Do not listen on DHCP points and
Configure DHCP options to indicate that this is also a PXE Server(Both the box are ticked)
DHCP Authorization---> Enabled Authorize this windows deployment services server in DHCP too selected.

At DHCP Server configured the IPV4 Server options to the following
003 Router to my GateWay IP(Eg:192.168.1.1)
006 DNS Servers to my local DNS Server (Eg:192.168.1.2)
015 DNS Domain Name to my Domain name (Eg:mydomain.com)
060 PXEClient as default PXEClient
066 Boot Server Host Name to my WDS Server IP (Eg:192.168.1.3)
067 Bootfile Name to \smsboot\x64\wdsnbp.com

At client side when i boot through PXE network booting my client gets IP from Windows DHCP Server,it also find and start loading the WDS boot image after it starts processing the BootStrap settings of MDT but ends up with error

A connection to the deployment share \\WDS-Server\Deploymentshare$ could not be made cannot reach deployroot error.
When i cancel to check the ip at cmd i can see instead of Windows DHCP IP get assign,my perimeter firewall DHCP ip is getting assigned because of this it unable to reach my Windows DHCP and WDS Server to install OS.
Any help please..

Run PowerShell in mdt task sequence and store output in system drive, Windows 10 Autopilot

I've built a Windows 10 image and would like to use it with mdt -usb deployment, after the image is deployed, i would like to run a PowerShell script to gather hardware information and store the results under c:\temp\myfile, this step should run before windows boots into the user account, so basically at the OOBE step where the user selects keyboard/language. I've created the script below, stored it under deployment\scripts and added it in the mdt task sequence step under 'Install' after 'Install Operating System'-pic for details, yet i'm getting an error message

Ps OSDisk is the default variable from mdt that I found under 'format and partition disk (BIOS and UEFI)

Script

$ErrorActionPreference = 'Stop'
Param ([String]$OSDrive)
Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Force
Install-PackageProvider -Name NuGet -Force
Install-Script Get-WindowsAutoPilotInfo -Force
$PCSN = (Get-CimInstance win32_bios | select SerialNumber).SerialNumber
Try { Get-WindowsAutopilotInfo -outputfile "$($OSDrive):\temp\$(Get-Date -Format yyyymmdd)_$PCSN.csv" }
Catch { Get-WindowsAutopilotInfo -outputfile "e:\temp\$(Get-Date -Format yyyymmdd)_$PCSN.csv" }

BitLocker encrypting entire drive instead of used space only

Using MDT 8550 with ADK 1803.

Looking in ZTIBde.wsf it has the line

oUtility.RunWithHeartbeat """" & oEnv("SystemRoot") & "\system32\Manage-bde.exe"" -on " & oUtility.GetOSTargetDriveLetter & " -used"

But when running TS it is encrypting entire drive and not used space only.

My CS.ini looks like this

BdeInstallSuppress=NO
BdeDisablePreProvisioning=YES
OSDBitLockerMode=TPMPin
OSDBitLockerWaitForEncryption=FALSE
BdePin=XXXXXXX

USER CONTROL OVER WINDOWS 10 OS

$

Hi, I am using Windows OS for around 20 years now and I can say without any doubt that for a simple user (without any technical knowledge or great experience in PCs) Windows 10 is the worst OS ever when it comes to the control the user has over the OS and all the applications included. As a new OS it launched with many bugs which most of them were fixed on the way (e.g. the bug with the printer drivers) but the control over the OS and its applications was never improved. A recent example which I experienced is with Microsoft Edge which can't be removed from the operating system nor can it be completely disabled. Many users are searching for a way to remove or disable it for more than a year now and microsoft never offered a real solution. The same goes with other programs too and moreover many settings put in place by the user can change automatically after an upload. Furthermore many really useful settings are really hard to find or you can never find them preventing the user from having the customized experience of choice. Finally after some of these neverending...!!! updates some processes seem to slow down.

Although these problems are known for over a year now microsoft hasn't solve them yet. Does anyone know if microsoft intends to address these issues in the near future?? Or should users (who want to have real control over their OS in a convenient way) consider to change it with an apple OS which seems to offer all the above?

Thank you

Issue with Quick Access in File Explorer

Has anyone seen an instance where the Quick Access link in File Explorer opens as the default user (the one used to create the image) rather than the signed on user?

I have one, ONE user who uses the Quick Access link. When he clicks on Documents under the link, a popup comes up saying that he doesn't have access to that user's Documents. My suggestion to him is just to delete is and add his own. I haven't tried deleting it from my master image but I guess I can try...and then recapture it. I wasn't aware of this because no one uses it, but my manager, so I have to address it.

Restore Deleted Task Sequence

$

I accidentally deleted a Task Sequence that I am trying to restore.

I was able to find a copy of the TS folder that contains ts.xml and unattend.xml. I have copied the folder in my Deployment Share in the Control folder

I still cannot see the TS in the MDT console.

What should I do?

Windows Update via MDT - Exclude Feature Updates

Hello,

Is there anyway to configure an MDT task sequence to only install security updates without packaging up the WSU files? There's no WSUS available on the network, so MDT TS connects directory to Windows Update so will be using the steps 'Windows Update (Pre-Application Installation) etc.

Thanks

Any caveats in capturing a physical machine for deployment use?

$

I'm given a latitude 5550 with specific software installed. I'm not concerned about drivers as this will only go back onto other 5550 laptops. There are several profiles on it, mostly MSSQL users and .net profiles. Administrator is also activated and had been logged on as.

I'm concerned about sysprep bombing because of multiple users on the pc. I just know that I am asked to capture this pc as is so that we can deploy it as it. I always use the standard Sysprep and Capture TS for 1703 or 7 when I capture a VM.

What can I do specifically to make sure this captures the whole pc sysprepped without bombing during boot up?

I might also add that this pc appears to have been created using MDT, then more software has been added to create the image they'd like to capture.

Thanks

Upgrade to MDT 6.3.8450.1000 causing sporadic problems during task sequence

$

I upgraded MDT to 6.3.8450.1000 and I am seeing a new, sporadic problem. I am doing a new computer implementation. The BDD logs displays this message: Task Sequence contains a LTIApply.wsf step, and is not running within WinPE. The following line in in the log is: Property DeploymentType is now = REFRESH.  This causes the task sequence selection screen to reappear. The technician selects the same task sequence and then completes successfully. This does not happen on every machine. This is happening on the task sequence step Post-Apply Cleanup, which executes this command: cscript.exe "%SCRIPTROOT%\LTIApply.wsf" /post

Any ideas where I can look to figure out what is causing this?

Thanks in advance.
