WSUS update PC during Deployment - MDT

$

Hi

We have SCCM to push the windows update to the client PC's,but it makes the client machine very slow on newly deployed machines.

I want the windows update to push directly to the newly deployed machine during the initial machine setup stage. We do not have any GPO for windows update set on client PC, as SCCM is configured to push updates.

If the windows update can be pushed to the newly deployed machine, during deployment with patches up to date.

How can configure this on MDT ?

I have  try few things like in custom setting specifying the WSUS Servers details and enabled on the task sequence. but this does not work as it keep on showing searching for updates.

Please let me know how can i fix this problem.

Thanks

Venky

MDT media and usb key size

$

I was wondering if it is ok to manually delete from my usb key a folder located in the key (MDT\Media Key\Content\Deploy\Operating  System\XXXX.) I have 4 folders in here which I believe I need only 3 to boot and image remotely all my different models and needed Applications.  My media is just a bit too large to fit on my key. I believe I have selected the least amount of options in the media properties for this key to be useful to my remote sights.

I am self taught with MDT so a complicated explanation may confuse me. I apologize for any ignorance or poor terminology.

Thank you for your assistance or suggestions,

When i deploy a MDT image with a language pack installed (aka the language pack/package selection) I get a black screen saying "System preparing for first use"

However when I use a non-image aka the windows source DVD and deploy through MDT i can get it to install the correct language with the language selection build in MDT>

Anyone has any idea's how I can troubleshoot this?

The problem is that I have a new Dell E7470 laptops.   The drivers Dell gives us are either malfunctioning or missing.  When I do a PXE boot at the end when I should be able to choose what image to load, it crashe with Error:

The following networking device did not have a driver installed.

PCI\VEN_8086&dev_156f&subsys_06dc1028&rev_21

Retry:  Try again to connect to the deployment share.
Cancel:  Give up, cancelling any in-progress task sequence"

Steps Taken:
1.  Download latest system drivers for laptop.
2.  Imported the drivers into "out of box drivers"
3.  Updated the Deployment Share

3.  Using WDS updated the wim file from boot images.

Any help would be appreciated !!

UEFI HP DL360 G9 Image fails 5615

I'm trying to image a HP DL360 G9 Server and am not able to get around it if booting in UEFI mode. If i switch to Legacy BIOS I can successfully lay the image down.  I get a "Failure 5615 False: boot drive was not found, required?"  The OS lays down fine, gets to 100% but before it reboots i get the fail error.  Running MDT 2013 update 2 with ADK 10.  Feel like i've read every post in regards to this error and UEFI, but i'm not getting past it. Tried changing from MBR to GPT in the TS, but then read its not neccessary.  Removed ADK and re-installed. re-genned my Boot files, still no dice. Any help would be appreciated. I can F8 at the failure screen and run through DiskPart and see my drive fine...

At the bottom of my LTI apply log i do get the operation completed successfully, followed by the following:

Event 5625 sent; the image was applied successfully

find the boot drive (if any) True 6.3.9600.17415 False

No Boot Drives found. None

Failure 5615 False, boot drive was not found, required.

LiteTouchPE_x64.wim vs LiteTouchPE_x86.wim

All,

Here is my issue.  I have the Dell E7470 laptops and there is a known issue where the NIC is missing and the laptop crashes with

"A connection to the deployment share MDT 2013 Production Share$ could not be made. The following networking device did not have a driver installed. PCI\VEN_8086&dev_156f&subsys_06dc1028&rev_21 Retry: Try again to connect to the deployment share. Cancel: Give up, cancelling any in-progress task sequence"

But this post is not about that right now.  What I tried yesterday was booting from the "LIteTouchPE_86.WIM instead of the X64 and it worked.  My questions are as follows:

1.  Why does one work and not the other?
2.  What is the difference?
3.  I booted from the x86 and was able to load an image on to the E7470 from a captured image.  Is it okay to continue to use the X86 WIM?

Thank you !

MDT 2013 Update 2 Activate Office 2016

I have installed Office 2016 into reference image and added a command line in my TS to activate Office 2016

Command line:

cscript.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs /act

Start in:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16

TS failes immediately. I have ran this exact command line before in MDT 2012 but for some reason not able to work in this current version.

Any ideas or better ways to activate office 2016?

Thank you!

Domain Join Issue

I set up our Deployment Environment and I'm having a weird issue when one of our technicians Images one of our computers. I have a custom PowerShell script that runs during WINPE that prompts for computer name and description via Active directory powershell module that has been injected into the Boot wim. I have the computer join the domain at the end of the task sequence to avoid the legal text pushed by group policy. The problem is when this tech Uses his credentials he can image a computer and his credentials work in WinPE for talking to Active Directory but when the ZTIDoaminjoin script runs it fails to join the domain with a return code 1326 Invalid user name and password. Which doesn't make sense as his credentials worked during WinPE and the ZTIDomainJoin script Runs using the Cached Credentials from WinPE so how can his credentials fail but work. any help is really helpful. Below is my ZTIDomainJoinlog:

MDT Build Share Update - Question

$

Hello All,

Hoping for some guidance here.

Current Build Share = MDT 2013

Intended Build Share = MDT current release (MDT 2013 Update 2)

My question is perhaps simple for many who have upgraded their MDT 2013 > Update 2. I am familiar with steps of upgrading, though I just want to ensure that updating the deployment share won't cause new image captures to fail. As many, we use VM's to capture images i.e (during build, TS goes into suspend mode, we modify the OS, shut it down, take a snapshot, start up the OS, and continue the TS to capture the image).

Would updating the build share cause any files to change etc. causing the image capture to fail, in case it is looking for some specific version of file / script that MDT looks for? The idea is to upgrade the current Build Share and start doing some testing for WIN10 build & capture.

Comments are much appreciated. Thanks.

Windows 7, KSOD (Black screen, no login) - Language pack and MDT

$

Hello everyone,

Here is the deal. I made a Windows 7 Pro gold image with updates in it. When I deploy it in english, everything works fine. The problem is when I deploy it and add a language pack with MDT, the deployment works just fine, although, after a reboot, windows install 75 updates, then reboot to a black screen with a cursor (before login). The problem only occurs when I am installing the french language pack with MDT (installed using the package option with MDT), after the deployment has completed. It also only happen if I wait a "long" time after deploying and first reboot. If I reboot quickly and manually install windows update before it reboots, it does not seem to have the problem.

Additional information:

  1. CTRL+ALT+DELETE or CTRL+SHIFT+ESC does not open task manager
  2. Safe mode also comes to black screen
  3. Enabling debug mode does not give any interesting data
  4. Using "last known good configuration" does not work
  5. The problem occurs on many different hardware, and only when using language packs, so it is not driver related
  6. Using startup repair works, but it is completely useless because I am trying to do a deployment

The setup:

  1. Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64 with all updates up to a month ago.
  2. Installed in English
  3. Powershell 5
  4. .net 4.6.1
  5. Gold image was done in a virtualbox VM with 4GB ram, 2 cores, 100gb hdd with 3d hardware acceleration enabled
  6. MDT 2013 update 2 (build 8330)
  7. Language packs (lp.cab) are installed using the package section in MDT. I would like to avoid injecting them in the WIM for flexibility reasons.
  8. I have removed the content of %windir%/Software Distribution/Download to save space in the WIM, although leaving them there does not fix the problem.

How does the problem occurs:

  1. Deploy with MDT, select french language pack
  2. Leave office for one hour or two, deployment takes around 20 minutes.
  3. After deployment, move computer in proper OU to trigger windows updates (updates are disabled in the gold image)
  4. Reboot
  5. Black screen

I've been hitting the Microsoft wall for two weeks now, with no solution. I've tried to create 2 different gold images, different hardware; I always end up with the same problem.

Any help, insight or other would be much appreciated.

Windows 10 - language pack wizard is not shown

$

Hi,

I'm trying to make a Windows 10 Enterprise anniversary reference image using MDT 2013 Update 2. I downloaded the Windows 10 EN ISO with the Multi Language Pack. The Windows 10 ISO is 1607 and the Language pack ISO ends with X20-08995. Both ÎSO are 64bit. I obtained them from the volume license site.

The problem is that the language pack wizard is not shown. In the customsettings.ini I use

SkipPackageDisplay=NO

I want to deploy languages EN-US and DE-DE. I also specified both package guid in the customsettings.ini with

Languagepacks001= [GUID]

Languagepacks002 = [GUID]

However in the wizard "user locale" I can chose the language to install English or German.

Another option I was trying to download the German language directly in the reference image which I captured. However when I deploy that captured image the injected language is gone.

I read here in a forum that it is important the language pack matches the exact Windows build. I think in my case it is.

Why do not MDT display the language pack wizard?

Thanks,

Edy

0x7E BSOD after applying wim image and install drivers with dism (W7 x64)

$

Good morning,

We are trying to solve this problem for months, but we have tried all the solutions from the web and the problems remains, also in models that where correctly working.

Our company is deploying W7 64 bit, on a lot of different models, using Landesk, using many vbs scripts made by us. The gold image is made on a virtual machine, then syspreped and captured. This syspreped wim is deployed to the client by a WinPE 5.0 x86 (W8.1 32 bit), using imagex command, the same problems happens using dism commands. First of all, we partition the disk in MBR, with one partition of 300 mb for booting, and another one for the system. Then the syspreped wim is applied, to both partitions (we have also tried to create de boot partition instead of appliying it).
At last, we install the drivers to the offline image using dism. So, although we use Landesk, the problem happens doing all the process manually with WinPE, and I think it would happen with any deployment app.

It happens on new and older machines, at the beginning we think that it could be because of the SSD disks, but it also occurs on non SSD Disks…We use use BIOS mode, instead of UEFI, but we have tried with this one, and is the same.

Finished this process, the machine is restarted, but when Windows logo is charging it freezes, and gives a BSOD with 0x7E error. We have seen that this only happens with a fully updated image, not if we use a clean W7 installation captured, but when we update this virtual machine, and capture it, always happens. The only way we can avoid this, is not installing the drivers, or remove some drivers after a lot of test-error. It always freezes when loading disk.sys (seen at safe mode) but, sometimes is due to the audio driver, another one the usb 3, another one the hotkeys… it has no sense, and we have not found any easy way to know it, because no log or dump is created.

We have installed the NVMe patches from Microsoft on the image, installed the intel and Samsung NVMe disk on the offline image, tried not installing some of the Microsoft updates on the image, making the image from the beginning again, but nothing has been successful. And to make it more strange, sometimes it happens on the same machine at the first deployment, but if you try it second, it works…

Can anybody see the sense of this behavior? Any idea of how to solve this?

Thanks in advance.

There are three applications that I am trying to deploy.

The first two are deploying fine but while trying to install Firefox MDT BDD log comes with a error.

Application Mozilla Firefox returned an unexpected return code 2 ( Image given below)

After reading few forum post it seems that MDT is not being able to find the working directory.

My working directory as per the application.xml is

<WorkingDirectory>.\Applications\Firefox</WorkingDirectory>

and command is "Firefox Setup 45.3.0esr" -ms

Tried removing firefox and adding again.

Also, tried adding the full path to the working directory but nothing works.
