I'm trying to setup a answer file to install windows 2012, enable HYPER-V and enable the Hyper-v Management client. I'm using "Windows system image manager" to create the answer file. Everything works until I select

Package

-- Foundation

----and64_Microsoft-Windows-ServerCore-Package_6.2.9200.16384

------ServerManager-Core-RSAT

--------ServerManager-Core-RSAT-ROLE-Tools

----------RSAT-Hyper-V-Tools-Feature

------------ Microsoft-Hyper-V-Management-Client

When I validate this I get

Windows Feature is enabled but one or more of its dependencies have not been enabled in the answer file. Packages/Foundation/amd64_Microsoft-Windows-ServerCore-Package_6.2.9200.16384__31bf3856ad364e35_/NetFx4ServerFeatures/NetFx4/MicrosoftWindowsPowerShell/ServerCore-FullServer/Server-Gui-Mgmt/Microsoft-Hyper-V-Management-Clients

winload.efi , can't boot pxe and other questions

Trying to boot a new lenovo x1 carbon pc but I get this error:

1. When I read this on google it said I need to update my PE?

2. How can I see what version of PE I have?

3.Will I lose all my drivers if I update my PE?

I updated my MDT to 2013 update 1 and WAIK 10 to be able to deploy windows 10.My workaround for this error is to disable secure boot, and change UEFI mode to Legacy only then I can pxe boot.

4.Do you know any other solution?

My other questions are:

5. Do you know what ROW I can't write in customsettings.ini to create a local account that is not admin and assign it lets say a name and a password? Can the password be random and saved somewhere like ad or a text document? Sometimes people don't have a network when they receive our their new pcs and this could be a solution, to logon to a local account and the remote it.

6. Can I choose to hide a task sequence that will deploy windows 10 but still choose it somehow? I want to test deploy windows 10 without other users being able to choose that task sequence?

7. Is it also possibly to change the pxe language to Swedish keyboard instead of English?

Thank you guys and girl!

MDT 2013 Update 1 - Unable to find rules INI file, rc = 1

Hello,

I just built a brand new server and loaded MDT 2013 Update 1 to start pushing out Windows 10 clients. After I PXE boot, the program processes the bootstrap.ini file, then flashes saying that it cannot locate the CustomSettings.ini file. It is in the correct location (deploymentshare\control\customsettings.ini), I have tried giving new permissions, declaring the file in the gather ts, moving the file to the scripts root, a full reinstall, even a new server, nothing works. Below is the BDD.log file from a failed deployment.

I'm able to dynamically set and prepopulate the the computer name based on the customsettings.ini file I have and would now like to prepopulate the domain and the organizational unit (OU) but am not having any luck.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the contents of the customsettings.ini file:

Problem importing Windows 10 Build 1511

I've just downloaded Windows 10 Build 1511 from VLSC

Win 10 Build 1511 autologin issues when domain joined

I'm having issues with the autologin as administrator after imaging is done as part of the task sequence.  I have a standard task sequence that deploys Windows 10 build 1511 and after the image is applied the computer reboots to start the "State Restore" part of the task sequence and after booting up it just sits at the login screen for Other User.  If manually login as the administrator it then works and continues the boot process.  I am trying to get the autologin as admin to work once so the applications can be installed after the image is applied.  I have tried both a captured image of 1511 and the direct CD wim with the same results.

I have had success with getting the autologin to work with build 1511 only if during the deployment process i select to join a workgroup andnot a domain.  I am also able to use the same task sequence with build 10240 (Win 10 RTM) and select domain join and the autologin works then as well.

Is anyone else running into this issue or have any thoughts on this?  I'm kind of pulling my hair out on this lol

Windows 10 customized start menu question?

Hello,

I am trying to do make a customized start menu using the process of copying LayoutModification.xml file to the C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Shell folder. I am using a PowerShell script to do the copy xml file. The file copy is successful but when I login as a new user I do not see the customized start menu. I am doing the file copy in State Restore in the TS.

  • Doing this on Win 10 Enterprise RTM joined to a domain
  • Do I need to delete/rename the existing file?
  • Do I need to rename my LayoutModification.xml file?
  • I am doing the LayoutModification.xml file copy in the correct place in the TS

Deploying Upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 using MDT

Been trying to deploy the Windows 10 ISO through MDT but cannot use MDT to deploy an in place upgrade from Windows 7 X64 Professional > Windows 10 X64 Professional using the ISO downloaded from the Microsoft website. I've converted the .esd to a .wim however the upgrade seems to stop on step 8 and the LiteTouch information screen disappears half way through the upgrade and then no further progress and the monitoring shows step 8 of 30. This is a standard client upgrade task sequence with no additions as we wanted to keep this as simple as possible for testing.

I have used the following tools to convert the .esd

-NTLite

-DISM

My colleague has been checking the BDD log file associated with the deployment and the main error he finds is relating to the installation not being able to find the setup.exe file

Trying to test this to be deployed in a domain environment but can't even get it working in a virtual lab at the minute.

Image Capture fails on Windows 10 version 1511 build 10586

MDT 2013 Update 1 v.6.3.8298.1000. Windows 10 ADK v. 10.0.26624

Capture fails as Sysprep begins with following error:

Logs located here: http://1drv.ms/1Tn9vTQ

Capturing from a VM (Hyper-V). Previous Windows 10 (Build 10240) captures fine.

I have not updated to Windows 10 ADK version 1511 per Johan’s recommendation (http://deploymentresearch.com/Research/Post/516/New-blog-post-Inside-Windows-10-ADK-Build-10586), and I have seen elsewhere that it is not a requirement to capture/deploy the new Windows 10 1511 version?

I have tried the suggestions listed here, but to no avail: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c549346f-d900-4026-8748-2c4f0dd54a83/mdt2013up1image-capture-fails-on-surface-pro-3?forum=mdt

Is there a fix on the horizon, or another workaround to try?

How to deploy software which requires a bat file?

So we use Teradata which uses a bat file to silently install. During the install you can configure which components you want installed in this manner: silent_install.bat "ODBC,TDNETDP,SQLA"

The issue I am having is if I set this up in a task sequence MDT moves on to the next task sequence as soon as the bat file is ran so the install fails. I tried adding a wait command to the line based on some other posts I found: start "silent_install" /wait silent_install.bat "ODBC,TDNETDP,SQLA"

How can I deploy software which is called from a bat file and prevent MDT from moving on to the next task sequence until the install is complete? I contacted Teradata and they were absolutely no help at all. Their answer was more or less "so don't deploy it from a task sequence if it doesn't work."

MDT 2013 Wizard.hta error

I am using MDT 2013 for server deployment with custom wizard panes. It works fine on Physical Servers if I use Physical CD-ROM. However, on IBM Servers if I connect via ILO (RSA) and mount ISO as Remote Drive It works fine for first two wizard panes and when click Next to go to the third pane I get the following error. Same deployment works fine if I use physical CD-ROM on same IBM machine. It also works fine on VMWare if I use same ISO.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I will just tell the OPS guys to use physical CD-ROM and not mount remote ISO when they build the server.

Thanks,

Deepak

Sysprep and Capture failing due to no IP address.

I am running the Standard Client Task Sequence and everything appears to be working up to a point where I get A connection to the deployment share could not be made.

Here is a little bit of detail.  I am PXE booting and deploying the image to a computer just fine, it picks up all the drivers and applications and does just fine.  It runs through all the task to boot and puts the image on the machine, but once it goes to syspreps the machine, Applies the Windows PE and then restarts.  Once it restarts, it gets the error and I notice that I cant get an IP address.  Even when I attempt to give it a static IP address, it still fails with same error.

I don't know what I changed because it was working at one point.

MDT 2013 Update 1 - unable to obtain bitlocker key

Since upgrading from MDT 2012 to MDT 2013 Update 1 we have been having a bunch of issues, but this one is the most important right now. To test this, I have installed a brand new copy of Windows 10 Enterprise on a separate computer. On this fresh copy of Windows 10, I installed Win 10 ADK and MDT 2013 Update 1 and created a brand new deployment share. I created a HyperV image of a brand new Windows 7 x64 SP1 installation, captured it with the new MDT, and then tried to deploy with the new MDT.

However, when deploying this image, after the first reboot post the OS install phase, the computer gives the following black screen error right after BIOS:

"Status: 0xc0210000

Info: The action could not be completed because the BitLocker Driver Encryption key required to unlock the volume could not be obtained."

I have tested with 3 different computer models so far and it's the same result. Tested with Dell 7010, 9010, and E7440. Yes TPM is enabled and activated in BIOS. In addition, this happened with a Windows 8 image as well.

Since this happens on a brand new Deployment Share that I created just for the purpose of testing this issue, what could I be doing wrong? It worked perfectly out of the box with MDT 2012. I'm going crazy trying to figure this out, any ideas?

The computer on which I'm attempting the installation on has a 250 GB disk so the error message below seems quite weird to me.

Failed to submit the Windows Error Report. [HRESULT = 0x80070070 - ERROR_DISK_FULL]

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Offline Media Creation problems

Hi

I hope someone can advise.

I'm trying to build an offline ISO for windows 10 deployment. I am using MDT 2013 Update 1 (build 6.3.8298.1000).

The Selection Profile is created and I can run the Update Media Content wizard. It runs through the folder copy but it is then failing with a message that says

Unable to mount the WIM, so the update process cannot continue.

I have also had it give me dism errors whilst mounting or unmounting the wim file (during the Wizard process), and when this happens,  I need to go into a cmd prompt on the MDT Server and run this

dism /Get-MountedWimInfo

This returns an MDTUpdate.xxxx\Mount  dir with an image file of LiteTouchPE_x64.wim When this happens the only way I can continue is to run dism /unmount-Wim, and this fails to unmounts the wim, unless I have restarted the MDT server, if this is the case, I can unmounts the wim, otherwise I get a dism message saying that the process cannot continue because of a file lock, and I need to restart the MDT Server.

If I do not get the dismhost.exe crash message, the ISO file is created on completion of the wizard. If dism crashed, the iso file is not created.

I have not done any customising of the Offline Media rules, I want ot take it a step at a time and at least get a working iso file before I attempt to introduct some of the automation.

Has anyone seen this before, I can't find anything online about it?

Many Thanks

regards

John

Is there a way to downgrade a share back to MDT 2013?

I installed MDT 2013 Update 1 and opened our Office Production share on it.  It would not let me continue without upgrading the content.  I was never warned to NOT select this and didn't think twice about it.  Little did I know that we are not ready to move forward with Update 1 yet.  And now that share will not open for anyone.  Is there a way to revert the share back to 2013?

MDT 2013 update 1 Application Installation Script

I'm having difficulty installing applications with MDT. I am fairly new to using this tool and it seems to require a lot of scripting knowledge which I am trying to learn.

When I can get a .msi file, I haven't had any problem running a silent install. However, .exe files are giving me trouble.

The setup.exe app I am working with on my test of MDT deployment is the Firefox browser. I am trying to deploy it to Windows 10. It returns an error to me as follows:

"Application Mozilla Firefox returned an unexpected return code: 2"

Here's what I have tried:

1. I have created a new application in MDT, using both the 'Application with Source Files' selection and the 'Application without Source Files or elsewhere over the network' option.

2. In the working directory, I have tried .\Applications\"Mozilla Firefox", or have tried other file paths where I have the setup.exe located.

3. After creating the application in MDT, I have created an installation task sequence, selecting only to install one application and pointing it to the MDT Firefox Application I created.

4. The actual command. This is where I think I may be having my trouble. I have tried numerous commands:

FirefoxSetupStub42.0.exe -ms

FirefoxSetupStub42.0.exe /INI=<file path of the ini I created>

<whole directory path to the setup.exe>\FirefoxSetupStub42.0.exe -ms

<whole directory path to the setup.exe>\FirefoxSetupStub42.0.exe /INI=<file path of the ini I created>

5. I have also tried a resource I found that uses a .cmd file which pulls from a .ini for custom settings, a .js, .css, .cfg, etc. This was a SCCM resource so I wasn't sure if it would work with MDT, but I gave it a try.

With this, I copied all these files (.cmd, .cfg, .js, .css, the setup.exe, etc.) all to the working directory and out the command to direct to the .CMD file. I have the .CMD file script posted below.

With all of this, I have tested the deployment by running the following commands:

net use \\<servername>\deploymentshare$ user:<domain\username>

cscript \\<servername>\deploymentshare$\Scripts\LiteTouch.WSF

The LiteTouch UI opens up and I have successfully deployed the Win10 OS I put on it and deployed the AdobeAcrobat .msi app I put on there, so it seems that MDT and the LiteTouch.wsf are working fine, but it is my scripting on this setup.exe install.

Any ideas???

MDT 2013 Update 1: Batch files are searched in C:\Windows\System32, not in application directory

I have multiple applications in MDT that use batch files for installation. They all do not work anymore since we upgraded to MDT 2013 Update 1 (it was still working in the preview version).

I used Procmon and found that, when the installation command is "batchfile.cmd", BDD.EXE opens a process "c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /c batchfile.cmd", and then that CMD process looks for

  • C:\Windows\batchfile.cmd
  • C:\Windows\System32\batchfile.cmd
  • C:\Windows\System32\wbem\batchfile.cmd
  • C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\batchfile.cmd

and then exits with error code 1.

Obviously CMD.EXE is executed in C:\Windows\System32, not in the specified working directory. It has been working in MDT 2012, MDT 2013, and MDT 2013 Update 1 Preview.

Populate OU Method in MDT 2012

Just upgraded my MDT 2010 to MDT 2012. The install and upgrade was smooth and I only ran across one issue. I had been using a DomainOUList.xml file to populate my OUs for installs. Running an install I noticed an error in populating the OUs. It appears that the problem was that DeployWiz_Initialization.vbs wasn't configured for DomainOUList.xml. I have a backup of my old DeployWiz_Initialization.vbs file but the new version looks quite a bit different. Is there an alternate method of populating OUs in MDT 2012?

Orange County District Attorney

After some research, I've discovered that my issue is adding back the "friendly name" OU selection. That's what I added to the DeployWiz_Initialization.vbs file in MDT 2010.
