FAILURE ( 7706 ): ERROR! Drive D: was not found!

I was wondering if anybody run into this issue and could point me in the right direction.

I have been using MDT for over 4 years and last week was the first time that I have ever seen this "FAILURE ( 7706 ): ERROR! Drive D: was not found!" message. I'm running a MDT 2013 deployment server with AIK 8.1 and this error occured while imaging a Surface Pro 3.

We successfully imaged about  +10 Surface's with this MDT build however they all had 128GB SSD's and and 4GB of RAM this one that failed has a 256GB SSD and 8GB of RAM and the issue was replicated on another Surface with the exact same specs.

So far I have;

1) Tried another Surface Pro 3 of the same SKU and it had the exact same issue.

2) Successfully imaged this Surface with Windows 10 and with the Windows 8.1 Pro Surface Pro 3 recover image from Microsoft using USB media.

3) Updated my deployment share to MDT 2013 Update 1 and AIK 10 and tried both the original MDT 2013 standard deployment Task Sequence and the updated MDT 2013 standard deployment Task Sequence both modified for Surface Pro 3 (Driver Firmware, patches etc...)

4) Updated the Surface Pro 3 driver set with the very latest drivers but I noticed that even the latest drivers still uses the Intel ahci 8 driver from 2013 that the worked fine on the other 128GB SSD 4GB RAM Surface Pro 3 SKU's that we imaged before.

When looking at the BDD.log I can see that SSD drive is successfully cleared of any existing partition but it fails to create any partitions and after it fails in WinPE if you manually run Diskpart no drives seems to be available even though driver for the storage controller should still be loaded.

I have done a lot of research and I have found similar issues but none of the solution suggested has solved this issue and I'm running out of things to try.

Here are some of the Logs Files, let me know if any others are required;

Dism host service issue while update MDT share

Hi

My environment is like Windows server 2012 R2, MDT 2010 update1 trying to deploy Windows10. While trying to update the deployment share, it is giving an error like 'Dism host service process has stopped working'. I have spent a lot of time doing trouble shooting but no luck.

Has any one got the same issue and found any solution?

Please let me know if any further details is required.

Windows 10 Reference Build sysprep

$

Hi

I hope everyone is well and can advise. I've been using MDT for about 3 years, for Windows 7 onwards. I'm trying to build a Windows 10 Reference build I'm on MDT 2013 Update 1, and I have built a task sequence as per the advise here:

http://deploymentresearch.com/Research/Post/496/Building-a-Windows-10-Reference-Image-using-MDT-2013-Update-1

All is well when I deploy the task sequence to a virtual machine until it gets to sysprep. The MDT Monitoring node is showing the task sequence at 92% completed (step name Executing Sysprep ) but it is not progressing.

On the VM, it is sat at a login screen, and if I try to log in, I cannot do so - the admin account is disabled. The MDT logs are not copied to the log share, because the TS isn't completed, and I can't access the logs on the hard disk of the vm, as I keep getting told the admin account is locked.

I need to know how to either add a local account into the VM, so that I can log onto it and look at the logs, or I need to know how to let the sysprep process complete, so thathe wim file is created and copied.

Yesterday I also read this thread about enabling the admin account

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/b37e1cf4-163d-4172-9cb3-724049962da7/mdt-2012-update-1-local-admin-account-disabled?forum=mdt

I have checked the xml file and the RunSynchronousCommand is present in the file.

Is this something that I am doing wrong, or has anyone else had the same issue.

How do I add an second Admin account to the Task Sequence, so that I can access the VM to look at the logs. Ultimately I need to understand why sysprep is not working as it normally does. It is probably because the admin account it locked out/disabled. I should also mention that I can run reference builds on the other task sequences for several different operating systems successfully, (I've updated my wim files on all Operating systems successfully in September using reference builds), and as far as I can tell the Task Sequence for the Windows 10 Reference build is the same as the Windows 8.1 Task Sequence.

Any advise gratefully accepted, we can't roll Windows 10 out until I masterthe Reference build.

John

Hello,

Fail to join domain with Win 7 x64 HP G2 laptops and MDT 2013

I am at a lost!! I am deploying WIN 7 x64 Pro to my HP G2 laptops. (840 and 1040). Both the G2s will not join the domain. But the weird part is that all my other PC do not have an issue joining the domain when using the same .ini file. From the past working with the 1040 G1 it was a driver issue that was resolved with the right WinPE driver pack. But this issue has me at a lost. I can deploy to all my computers, laptops, desktops, but not the G2s, they would pixie boot to MDT, run the task sequence install the OS and stop at the login screen. I did some looking online and was pointed to the ZTiDomainjoin.log in the C drive, but in my case no domainjoin log was created. In the following path (c:\windos\temp\deploymentlogs\ZTidomainjoin.log.)

When looking at the DDB log No value was found for User, domain join, and password…all this information is provided in my .ini file.

Create a custom MDT task sequence

Hi all,

I am currently starting in the world of SCCM. I have previously worked with MDT but using it as a separate application. This time I'm trying to use  SCCM  2012R2 SP1 with MDT 2013. I have integrated SCCM and my Basic Task Sequence is working without any problems. What I'm trying to do is create a Task sequence that makes me prompt to enter a domain user only, after that depending on the Department to which the user belongs, create the computer name, and finally that the applications are distributed according to the needs of the user.

Please I'll appreciate if anyone can help me with this deployment.

Thank you in advance,

Tommy

HP 6560 / 6570b drivers take excessive time to install

$

Hey guys,

I'm having an issue where 6560b/6570b models take 4+ hours to deploy, hangs for a while on each percentage of installing devices, blue screen a few times. It DOES complete, device manager has all devices installed, deployment summary shows a perfect success. The one thing I did find, is within the setupapi.dev.log (c:\windows\inf) has multiple lines where it's "waiting for previous device install to complete" and the time stamps show multiple tens of minutes being wasted waiting on each line.

Our core network gear was refreshed this year, other models are taking 35~60mins to deploy depending on the system. Network bandwith has been monitored during these issues and isn't a factor.

Testing:

Deployed the image in question to other models - no issue.

I put the base "install.wim" from the enterprise disc in place, and it worked great. This made me wonder if I should have been doing anything different prepping W7 enterprise than w7 Professional. I rebuilt the image from the ground up incase I had some corrupted data or forgot to sysprep it. (Images are built in virtualbox so there's no hardware dependency or driver files saved on the image)

Tried the same image with different task sequences including with a blank (default) answer file - same problems.

Tried stripping out ALL drivers incase the HP driver pack was the problem, same issue, just many missing drivers when deployment finished.

So it seems I've narrowed it down to a combination of this one specific WIM and this one series of HP model - but it doesn't make ANY sense! At least not to my knowledge with WDS / MDT.

Server 2008r2, MDT2013, WDS services installed.

I'll answer any questions or provide data as best I can.

Thank you!!!

Possible to use UDI without SCCM?

Hi,

is it possible to use UDI (MDT 2012) without using SCCM? I would like to create a Wizard and use it eg. for an offline media that i create within MDT 2012.

I only find articles describing how to link UDI to SCCM but nothing on using it ONLY with MDT?

Thank you.

winload.efi , can't boot pxe and other questions

$

Trying to boot a new lenovo x1 carbon pc but I get this error:

1. When I read this on google it said I need to update my PE?

2. How can I see what version of PE I have?

3.Will I lose all my drivers if I update my PE?

I updated my MDT to 2013 update 1 and WAIK 10 to be able to deploy windows 10.My workaround for this error is to disable secure boot, and change UEFI mode to Legacy only then I can pxe boot.

4.Do you know any other solution?

My other questions are:

5. Do you know what ROW I can't write in customsettings.ini to create a local account that is not admin and assign it lets say a name and a password? Can the password be random and saved somewhere like ad or a text document? Sometimes people don't have a network when they receive our their new pcs and this could be a solution, to logon to a local account and the remote it.

6. Can I choose to hide a task sequence that will deploy windows 10 but still choose it somehow? I want to test deploy windows 10 without other users being able to choose that task sequence?

7. Is it also possibly to change the pxe language to Swedish keyboard instead of English?

Thank you guys and girl!

Variable to call local deployment drive during LiteTouch WSF Script.

Kinda new to WSF.

Trying to set the target path for a copy command to be "%SystemDrive%\ProgramData\Microsoft\Use Account Pictures"

		SourcePath = oUtility.ScriptDir & "\Default User Images\Win10\UserIcons\"
		TargetPath = (oEnv("Systemdrive")) & "\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\"
		'TargetPath = "E:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\"

I don't want to hard code E: in there since it won't always be E:

And it turns out "oEnv("Systemdrive")" is the the WinPE drive (X:)

What Var should I be using to call the local deployment root?

Thanks!

Deployment Wizard is Blank

Hi

I have installed MDT 2013, AIK and WDS on a Server 2012 R2 VM. I have created my deployment shares and Task sequences and everything seems to be ok. When i try to Sysprep and capture a Windows 7 machine by browsing to the deployment share, scripts folder and then clicking on the LiteTouch.vbs, the windows 7 machine reboots after checking for updates and then the Deployment Wizard is blank, so i cannot continue or see any options. Has anyone seen this before? The windows 7 reference machine is a VM if that helps.

Thanks

Shane

How can I tell MDT to use the efisys_noprompt.bin as the bootloader used to create the litetouch.iso

I would like to have an iso file that does not have the "press any key to boot from cd/dvd" prompt. I know how to do this manually but I would like to be able to set this somewhere so that MDT will use it whenever the iso is updated. Is there a script file somewhere with the command given to oscdimg that can be edited?

[SOLVED] Root Cause/Actual Fix for No Physical adapters present, cannot deploy over wireless

$

I tend to get the 'No physical adapters present, cannot deploy over wireless' error periodically.  While I'm certain I've seen it when deploying, I happened to be sysprepping & capturing [a VMWare virtual machine] when I received it.

All is well however:

  • sysprepped [reference] image without error
  • captured without error
  • [reference] system reboots & boots fine
  • successfully imported captured image
  • successfully deployed captured image

So several questions...

  • Anyone know what the root cause of that is?
  • Is there an actual way to fix that?  (Perhaps adding some [enhanced/additional] logic to whatever script is called that generates the error?)
  • Why do I get it 5 times?

Note:

  1. I'm fully aware of leveraging SkipSummary=YES/SkipFinalSummary=YES - just looking for a real reason why that's even an 'issue'
  2. This was covered elsewhere (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/mdt/thread/894ee6d2-a7b9-427f-a9b7-9a43dcc04d27/) but I didn't want to threadjack.

Many thanks!

MDT 2013 update 1 - Issues connecting to Deployroot

$

Hello,

I've been having an issue with my new boot image connecting to the deployroot since i upgraded to Update 1 and Windows 10 ADK. When trying to pxe boot this image or when using the litetouch script i get the following error:

Cannot reach deployroot. Possible cause: Network routing error or Network configuration error.

Some time ago the server was renamed & the name of the Server as shown is now incorrect. We have:

- edited to Bootstrap.ini file to correct the name (and included the fqdn in case this was needed)

- updated the Network (UNC) Path in the Properties of the MDT Deployment Share

- reinstalled MDT 2013 update 1 and ADK for Windows 10

the name of the old server still appears. The Custom.ini file already shows the correct server name.

Pressing  F8 whilst in Win PE & navigating to x:\deploy\scripts\bootstrap.ini still shows the old server name, where is this file located please so that I can edit the server name?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Adrian

How to sysprep a Windows 8.1 image for factory cloning

I have a usable task sequence to image a PC using MDT 2013. As my organization will be getting a few hundreds of the same model of PCs, I like to vendor to factory clone the image.

I am not able to find any guide to sysprep the image and hand the HDD to the vendor to clone.

The image is rather simple as there is no joining of domain. The deployment team will do so upon receiving and setting up the computer at the user end.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

for example choosing     => Choice 1 = install office

how can i do this with task sequences ??
