ZTIERROR: Non-zero return code by ZTIPowershell, rc = 10904

My Scenario:

i have a Windows 2008 R2 server with MDT 6.2.5019.0.

i have 2 deployment shares on this server: Windows 7 x64 Enterprise & Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64

in both my base images (win 7 & win 8.1) i updated to Powershell 4.0

Using task sequence in MDT i try to Run Powershell scripts that i created in "STATE RESTORE">"CUSTOM TASKS" folder using "ADD>GENERAL>RUN POWERSHELL SCRIPT".  On the Windows 7 x64 deployment share all my Powershell scripts- task sequences run fine but for my Windows 8.1 i get the following error:

ZTIERROR: Non-zero return code by ZTIPowershell, rc = 10904

i have no clue whats going on.

here are some steps troubleshooting steps I've taken:

1. updated the deployment share>Completely regenerate the boot images

2. Added computer to workgroup instead of Domain (Prevent any GPO's from affecting)

any help would be appreciated

MDT 2013 Update 1 and HP Softpaqs?

Does MDT 2013 Update 1 work well with deploying softpaqs silently or do we need to extract the drivers and installer files and deploy with other methods?

Windows 10 will not rename computer

$

We are at the beginning of deploying windows 10 to a limited number of new laptops that are being purchased.

A wim file has been created from a laptop and sent up to our MDT (2013 r1) server. (Note:This server has been in production for many years).  After researching on this procedure I decided to create a new deployment share to use for windows 10.   The test install we well with some quirks.  One is that it doesn't rename the computer as the end of the process. I get no errors that indicate there is an issue. So it shows up with whatever MDT decides to name it.

Has anyone run into this and is there a fix for it?

Thanks for you Help

MDT 2013 and IBM HS22

Hi,

I am having strange problems using MDT2013 on IBM HS22 Blade System. When I boot using MDT2013, after initial splash screen during WinPE boot, it simply reboots. It does not get to any of the GUI screen. It works fine on other systems. I have tried updating UEFI, IMM Firmware and NIC Firmware. It still keeps rebooting after initial Splash Screen during WinPE load. I have included RNDIS package in my Boot CD. I have triesd this on two different HS22 Blades with same results.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Deepak.

DISM Crashing when updating Deployment Share MDT 2013 Update Preview 1

Hi

I'm trying to do a build and capture of Windows 10 using MDT 2013 Update Preview 1. This worked fine on my workstation but since moving to a dedicated 2012 R2 server I am having problems trying to update the Deployment Share and generate my boot images.

The error output looks like this:

Copy: D:\Program Files\Microsoft Deployment Toolkit\Samples\Background.bmp to C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\MDTUpdate.3448\Mount\Windows\system32\winpe.bmp

ERROR: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

MDT 2013 Update 1 - No included Help files??

I'm new to the MDT tools and process and am finding it frustrating that after installing the MDT 2013 Update 1 (v6.3.8298) that there are absolutely no Help files included.

I found a note that the online TechNet documentation is not updated, but that's not what I would find most useful.  Having a Help file (.CHM) is what I would find most useful where I can look at the Index and Search topics, etc..  (And I wouldn't require internet access to read the info either.)

Is there really not going to be any included Help (.CHM) file included with MDT 2013 Update 1?

Thank you.

0xc0000225 error when applying litetouch.wim

I have recently upgraded the Deployment Workbench to 6.3.8298.1000 for Windows 10 support.  I also created new task sequences to take advantage of the new logic the update provides.

Unfortunately, I am having an issue with applying images to the HP zBook 15 laptops.  I boot from the LAN and run the Windows Boot Manager and select Lite Touch Windows PE (x64) the \Boot\x64\images\LiteTouch_x64.wim.  It starts to run that WIM and then I get the following error message.

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

It prompts to run a Windows Repair disk and gives three options.

It says the \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe has a status of 0xc0000225.

If I do the same process but instead select the Lite Touch Windows PE (x32) I get the same error message but the file in question is:

\windows\system32\drivers\iastors.sys and the status is 0xc0000017

I am only having this issue with the HP zBook 15 and no other make or model PC.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy

Unable to add to dependencies tab of applications or bundles

$

I held off updating from MDT 2010 to 2012 Update 1 for as long as possible, not wanting to break something that was working.  Turns out that's exactly what happened

First, the basics.  No problems actually upgrading the deployment share.  I did make a copy of the share as a backup before upgrading it, so that's still available to me if it becomes necessary. After the upgrade, I did initially have troubles with the boot images not correctly running the wizard, but I soon discovered that the boot images generated by 2010 wouldn't work with the the deployment share once upgraded to 2012. I simply needed to generate new boot images under 2012 Update 1 to replace the boot images created by 2010, and that problem was also solved.

The problem I now have is this: since upgrading, I can no longer add applications under the Dependencies tab of any application or application bundle. I've successfully created a new application with source files since the upgrade, so that's still working. But when I attempt to add any application to the Dependencies tab of any application or application bundle, it simply never appears in the list of applications. No error message is displayed and everything appears to be in order otherwise; when I click the "Add" button on the Dependencies tab of an application, the "Select an item" window appears just as it should, and lets me select an application from the list.  But when I click OK, the window is dismissed, and the application never appears in the list.

I've uninstalled and re-installed all the WAIK and MDT components, and then went so far as to install the components on another server, just in case my machine was somehow messed up.  Still no change - behaves exactly the same when administered from the Deployment Workbench of either machine. (And no, I don't have MDT open on both machines open at the same time).

My first thought is that there's some kind of permissions problem, but I'm not sure a) which folder on the deployment share houses the application bundles, or b) what the permissions should look like.  I've discovered I can remove applications from the dependency tab, but I can't add them.  It makes no difference whether I try to edit an existing one or create a new one.

Google has turned up exactly zero hits on this particular problem. I certainly don't want to nuke my deployment share and start over.  Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for all assistance.

Hello,

I'm trying to join a pc to an AD security group during a MDT 2012 Task Sequence with a VBS script. I'm running the script during the TS as another user. I'm getting error 0x80004005. I've run the script in Windows as another user the script just works.

I've tried several things, but I can't let it work.

I hope someone can help me

WinPE USB & Surface Pro 3

Hey everyone. We are using the latest version of MDT 2013 with the Win 10 ADK installed. I have been tasked with beginning to stage Windows 10 for the machines we have in our environment. So far, despite a few hiccups, I have been able to move forward with the exception of 1 device - the Surface Pro 3.

We have to use bootable USB drives for WinPE. We do not have PXE stood up nor do we deploy the images using SCCM. That's a decision that was made above my pay grade. So far for each USB drive I have extracted our light touch ISOs to the drives and made them bootable. With the Surface Pro 3, when I try to boot off the USB it searches for PXE - IPV4 & IPV6 - then skips right over the USB and boots the device normally.

I have tried doing this the following ways:

1. Using the Surface dock with the drivers imported to WinPE. USB on the dock or on the surface itself.

2. Using a powered USB hub. Ive tried this with the USB drive on the hub and on the surface, then using the USB > Ethernet dongle which has been NAC bypassed.

3. With Secure Boot and TPM enabled and disabled.

Im guessing this has something to do with BIOS/UEFI. I have read the guide here for creating USB media: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh825109.aspx

The problem with this is that our MDT server is virtualized. I have no way of plugging a USB drive into it and running the appropriate commands. Im sure there is probably something simple Im overlooking and looking for some direction, please.

Windows Update KB3042058 causing error - "FAILURE (5627): 14005: Run DISM.exe" during deployment

$

Hi,

I have been creating Windows 7 builds quite happily with MDT 2013 Update 1. However when I recently added KB3042058 (which an MS Baseline Security Analyzer scan said was required) to the Packages in the Deployment Workbench, I got the following error during the "Install Operating System" task:

FAILURE (5627): 14005: Run DISM.exe during deployment

Litetouch deployment failed, Return Code = -2147467259 0x80004005

This error occurred on both the Windows 7 x86 and x64 builds. If I removed KB3042058, the build deployment worked with no problems with the other 100+ hotfixes. I am able to install KB3042058 post build deployment, but I like to have all of the updates (as reported by MBSA) integrated into the build.

Has anyone else had the same problem integrating this or another hotfix?

Many thanks

Multiple Linked Deployment Shares on one selection menu

Is there a way to create separate linked deployment shares, yet when loading litetouch.wsf, the menu shows both on the same menu?

I've been able to do this using a selection profile and selecting two different deployments (for this sake of argument...Windows 7 and Windows 8), but it is brought over under one deploy folder when running the Linked Share. I would like to be able to have two independent deploy folders so if one needs updating(Windows 7), I don't have to worry about the state of the other (Windows 8) when using Linked Deployment Shares.

winload.efi , can't boot pxe and other questions

Trying to boot a new lenovo x1 carbon pc but I get this error:

1. When I read this on google it said I need to update my PE?

2. How can I see what version of PE I have?

3.Will I lose all my drivers if I update my PE?

I updated my MDT to 2013 update 1 and WAIK 10 to be able to deploy windows 10.My workaround for this error is to disable secure boot, and change UEFI mode to Legacy only then I can pxe boot.

4.Do you know any other solution?

My other questions are:

5. Do you know what ROW I can't write in customsettings.ini to create a local account that is not admin and assign it lets say a name and a password? Can the password be random and saved somewhere like ad or a text document? Sometimes people don't have a network when they receive our their new pcs and this could be a solution, to logon to a local account and the remote it.

6. Can I choose to hide a task sequence that will deploy windows 10 but still choose it somehow? I want to test deploy windows 10 without other users being able to choose that task sequence?

7. Is it also possibly to change the pxe language to Swedish keyboard instead of English?

Thank you guys and girl!

MDT - The following networking device did not have a driver installed

Using MDT 6 and WDS

x2 different dell laptops E5440 and E7250 using the same nic card - Intel I218-LM

Booting into litetouchpe_x86 wim

get error

The following networking device did not have a driver installed

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_155A&Subsys_0DE2039&REV_04 - E5440

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15A2&Subsys_062D1028&REV_03 - E7250

Downloaded the drivers from the intel site and loaded im certain the correct drivers I m loading both x86 and x64 as when i look at the inf files it shows

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_155A and PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15A2 however the subsys number does not match does this matter?

so in MDT i load the drivers into the WinPE folder then updated the share which completes successfully then updated the image in WDS but i still get the error.

Tried using the Dell drivers as well same problem

What am i doing wrong ?

Any help would be great.

Quick update still having the same problem but i went into winpe and opened the .inf from MDT and I do see PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15A2&SUBSYS_062D1028 in there dont see REV03 not sure if this makes the difference? so the drivers do match in WINPE folder and still getting the same error.

MDT 2013 Update 1 not injecting drivers

$

The problem involves Windows 10, Windows 10 ADK, WinPe, WMI and driver injection.

I have been deploying Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 using the Windows 8.1 ADK and MDT 2013 without any issue for a while. I am using Johan Arwidmark total control scenario to inject the right drivers. I made a folder for each SO and a folder for each make and model of computer.

If I run the following Powershell line in a Windows 8.1 computer I get the correct data about the manufacturer and model:
Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_ComputerSystem

And the query return the following data (example):
Manufacturer        : INTEL_
Model               : DB85FL__

When ZTIGather.wsf runs in the MDT 2103 and queries for the make and model returns the same correct data is returned and injects the right drivers to the computer.
I get the same result. So far, so good.

Now the problem starts after the upgrade to Windows 2013 Update 1, Windows 10 ADK and Windows 10 SO, I noticed the following issue:
The WMI query about manufacturer and model returns an empty string, it doesn’t matter if a run the Powershell query or the ZTIGather.wsf, and therefore MDT 2013 Update 1 fails to inject the right drivers to the computer. Now I can’t deploy any SO with the correct drivers.
As far as I know, the problem relates to Windows 10 and the WinPE from Windows 10.
Is this a bug?
Is there a workaround for this problem?

Thanks in advance.

W10 - Prompt to create local user during mini setup.

Hi Guys,

I realize this isn't really an "MDT" question, but I was hoping one of you had come across this issue and figure out a work around.

I am building my image and deploying it with MDT. I have been able to prompt to create a local user account during mini setup in Window 7 and Windows 8. I can't seem to get W10 to do it, no matter what I do in the unattend file.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

MDT 2013 U1 - while deploy, uninstalling OneDrive - Windows 10

How can I get rid of OneDrive in Windows 10 during a deployment of Windows 10 in MDT 2013 U1?

I tried the known script found in different forums.

@echo off
cls

set x86="%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\OneDriveSetup.exe"
set x64="%SYSTEMROOT%\SysWOW64\OneDriveSetup.exe"

echo Closing OneDrive process.
echo.
taskkill /f /im OneDrive.exe > NUL 2>&1
ping 127.0.0.1 -n 5 > NUL 2>&1

echo Uninstalling OneDrive...
echo.
if exist %x64% (
%x64% /uninstall
) else (
%x86% /uninstall
)
ping 127.0.0.1 -n 5 > NUL 2>&1

echo Removing OneDrive leftovers...
echo.
rd "%USERPROFILE%\OneDrive" /Q /S > NUL 2>&1
rd "C:\OneDriveTemp" /Q /S > NUL 2>&1
rd "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\OneDrive" /Q /S > NUL 2>&1
rd "%PROGRAMDATA%\Microsoft OneDrive" /Q /S > NUL 2>&1

echo Removing OneDrive from the Explorer Side Panel...
echo.
REG DELETE "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{018D5C66-4533-4307-9B53-224DE2ED1FE6}" /f > NUL 2>&1
REG DELETE "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{018D5C66-4533-4307-9B53-224DE2ED1FE6}" /f > NUL 2>&1

I tried to use it in the task sequence, running "cmd /c %SCRIPTROOT%\removeonedrive.cmd" after moving script to DeploymentShare\Scripts.

Also tried to use the script as an application. I added a task to the group "PostInstall" to install this single application.

At the end the deployment fails with a warning and OneDrive is still there. I can not see where in the logs is the reason for that. Disable the script or the application to remove OneDrive helps...

Sincerly
