Skip parts of CS settings?

$

Hi

I am installing a new T520 laptop. Now while doing this, I need the drivers.. obviously.

I downloaded a whole bunch of drivers from Lenovo's website, and happily imported them into MDT.

Unfortunately some of these drivers need to be installed as an application...

So I though...Hey.. why don't I just install W7 on the 520, and then send out drivers from MDT 1 or more at a time..?

But ... ack.. I cannot seem to find a way to do this properly..

I can create a post installation task sequence and modify it to fit my need...meaning I add an 'inject drivers' step.

But to avoid it running the standard cs.ini file and just processing the 520 section, the architecture section etc. I'd like to be able to set a variable that tells mdt NOT to process certain areas of the CS.

I already run my ztigather twice to take into account any TS specific settings, so I thought.. Hey can't I use this? Set something under the post TS to avoid MDT running other sections of my Cs?

Ooooor... is there another solution I'm just not thinking about?

Kindest regards, Martin

Lenovo computers, drivergroups, selection profile, Make & model

Hi, I was wondering how all you guys out there that deploy Lenovo computers use drivergroups and make & model?
My Thinkpad T500 returns model code 20552CG, that means I must create folder structure in Out-Of-Box drivers like:

Out-of-box-drivers
   Lenovo
      20552CG
   HP
      Elitebook 6930p

to use Drivergroups001=%make%\%model%
What does 20552CG really means? Does all Lenovo T500 return model code 20552CG?
Is it possible to use some other variable instead that uses Thinkpad T500 instead?

WDS getting corrupt

$

I am new to administrating to MDT and have encountered a problem 3 times. I am curious if I am doing something wrong.

The problem is, is when I add drivers to the Out-of-Box Drivers folder, WinPE, I update the deployment share to generate new boot WIMS.

I then import then into WDS > Server>Boot folder by choosing the "replace" option for each x86 and x64 wim. I am not shutting the WDS service down … or anything else.

On 3 occasions, after importing the new Boot WIMs, we could no longer boot into MDT even though 5 mins earlier we could. I then get an error saying Windows Deployment Service is corrupt and I am not able to recover from it even after running the commands to uninitialized and initialize the server.

Is this just bad luck or am I not doing something correctly and breaking WDS? I am left having to remove WDS from the server, which requires a reboot, and reinstall WDS to get it to work. What am I doing wrong? Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone have any idea what is corrupting WDS and how to fix it without removing the role from the server?

Thanks in advance.

Deployment stops after reboot

Hello,

I have a task sequence deploying Windows 7 and some applications. Everything has worked fine, but now, the deployment stops after the reboot after the os install. My applications don't get installed. I have already created a completely new image and task sequence but it still doesn't work.

MDT 2013 - Different settings per task sequence

Hi,

I'm trying to create different settings for different TaskSequenceIDs. For one TS I wanted to join the pc to a workgroup and do SkipApplications=YES and for the other TS I wanted to join a domain and do SkipApplications=NO. But I can't get it to work for some strange reason.

I've tried and tested this solution https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Different-settings-per-4faa55e9#content but it doesn't work.

I tried this too : http://www.the-d-spot.org/wordpress/2012/07/20/how-to-use-different-settings-per-task-sequence-with-mdt-2012/ but it doesn't work.

Perhaps MDT 2013 acts different then 2012 and 2010???? It would be nice if you could help me out on this one. :-)

MDT 2013 Can you capture a physical machine without Sysprepping it?

$

Sometimes I want to take a physical machine, drop an OS on it, some software, drivers...and capture it whole and NOT have it sysprepped. I may need to make changes to it and do not want it sysprepped at all. I believe the new order of things is you're only allowed to sysprep a machine 3 times, and who wants to keep track of that! I once tried the Sysprep and Capture TS and omitted the sysprep steps and the whole thing blew up. All I want to do it capture a physical machine, customized, and NOT have it sysprepped. I'm versed well enough in a regular Sysprep/capture and Deploy but not Capture without sysprepping it. Thanks Besides, since a Deploy of the image does a sysprep, why is it sysprepped by default when you capture it as well?

Hello everyone,

I work for a small company roughly around 300 employees and I'm having a very hard time using sysprep/generalize to deploy machines. I have an unattend.xml file and when I use it in audit mode without generalize it boots up fine but then, when I try and use the oobe/generalize/shutdown and when I restart I get the "Windows can not complete the installation" error. Here is my unattend.xml file. Any help is appreciated. We do not use a PXE server as we're a small company and are trying to use sysprep to deploy basic images as needed on machines. All our machines are Windows 7 Professional X64 Bit.

I want to do this final procedure on the end user PC:

3) Once Windows is installed, I install in audit mode all drivers for that PC and sysprep /oobe it

Hi,

I get the following error when deploying windows 7 image to HP z420 workstation:

Failure 5456: Unable to determine destination disk, partition, and/or drive. See BDD.LOG

LiteTouch deployment failed, return code = -2147467259 0x80004005

When I deploy this same image with exact same settings to virtual machine or HP Elitebook laptop everything works fine. I have imported all z420 drivers to MDT too.

Any ideas?

Hello, dear colleagues.

I have a problem with configuring default user profile settings during OSD process with MDT 2012 Update 1 by adding registry keys in ntuser.dat.

I've read this article: Incorrect locale setting when you deploy a Windows 7 image by using SCCM 2007, MDT 2010, or MDT 2012

and add Run Powershell Script (also tried batch files and vbscript in Run Command Line) in appropriate Task Sequence:

# This settings applied successfully
Rename-Item C:\Windows\Media Media_OLD
reg add HKLM\software\TEST /v TEST /t REG_DWORD /d 1
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System" /v DisableStartupSound /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

# This settings applied during OSD (State Restore), but restored after "Recover From Domain" and "Restart Computer" in previous state

# This settings did not apply at all
REG LOAD HKU\NTUSER "C:\Users\Default\NTUSER.DAT"
REG IMPORT %DeployRoot%\Scripts\ntuser.reg
REG UNLOAD HKU\NTUSER

Here is ntuser.reg:

MDT2013 - Move Computer from one main OU to specified application OU error: Incorrect function. (Error:00000001;source:Windows)

Hi,

I am new to MDT in general and totally new to MDT2013 and need helps please.

Our existing MDT 2013 system is setup to build computer to main OU where all the rules has been relax. ie. almost free of restrictions. it is done form the rules of the deployment share

there are different type of servers hence changing the master OU where MDT join and place the computer will affect all the build. My server build is specific to an application hence I want to move the server to its OU where I got customised GPO setup for it and I want to do it as a task sequence specifically setup for it

I setup a task sequence running as a command line to execute a powershell script and run as an admin account that has the privilege to this moving computer to another OU. (I proved that the script is working by logging on to the server locally with the same admin account and run the script and it worked fine)

however, when run it with MDT, the task failed with this error:  Incorrect function. (Error:00000001;source:Windows). The execution of the group (groupname) has failed and the execution has been aborted. An action failed. Operation aborted (Error:8004004;Source:Windows). Task Sequence Engine failed! code:enExecutionFail. Task sequence execution failed with error code 8004005...

May I have some helps with this please?

Thanks

BeTrai

here is my script to move the OU: ( I ran it with Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass)

$targetOU="OU=APPName, OU=Application,OU=Servers, DC=XYX,DC=ABC,DC=DEF"

$serverDistinguishedName= (Get-ADComputer$servername).DistinguishedName

Possible to resume deployment?

On occasion we have a troublesome application that hangs during installation forcing us to manually reboot or an application that automatically reboots the machine during deployment. After this reboot, it goes directly to the desktop and does not resume. MDT monitoring also shows its still in the "Application Installation" phase. Is it possible to "resume" the MDT deployment where it left off?

Thanks!

Hi,

I have MDT 2012 Update 1 running on Windows Server 2008 R2. I can successfully capture and deploy images, but none of my customizations seem to be applied. I want to do things like select the right drivers for the right hardware, set the post-install resolution (from 1024x768), and do some branding. I am not really sure how to verify the correct driver are being detected and installed, but the resolution and the branding certainly aren't working. Here's the CustomSettings.ini file:

MDT 2013 - Install Applications in Task Sequence - Asking to select apps during deployment

$

Hi I am after some help regarding MDT 2013. It is implemented already in my workplace. We currently have a litetouch deployment setup. I am creating new test Task Sequences which at the moment works fine apart from one thing. In our current working Windows 7 task sequence when deploying machines it doesnt ask which applications to install as they are listed in the task sequence it skips the "select applications to install" dialog. However with my new test task sequence which is in the same deployment share it asks me to select which applications to install during deployment. I have mirrored everything from the current working task sequence and still it requests me to select the applications. there is nothing in the custom settings file about installing applications. Can anyone advise on this?

error deploying image MDT2013

To make a long story short:

Image procedure is: capture image from a Vmware client Windows 7 SP1 installation. Import into MDT2013, make a new Task Sequence for deploying that Image. Edit unattend xml in that TS to copyprofile.
Update Deployment Share and import the wim into WDS. Booting client with network boot and choose the image to deploy.

After making a new capture from a client and import into MDT. I thought this time i do not edit the TS because the name of the imported image is the same. Then updated the deployment share.

When i tried to deploy this image a error on the client appears. First i get the menu which is in WDS on the client and choose deploy W7. The client is loading LiteTouchPE_x86.wim but when he is finished loading a Windows error problem occurs:

Windows failed to start. Recent hardware change might be the cause. This message appears also when somthing is wrong with Windows when he is not starting. But  is this due to the new image i captured into MDT? because i haven't chosen that image yet on the client so far is he not coming.

So i think maybe this is due that i did not make a TS change. So i deleted the TS and meade a new one then do a edit unattend.xml. When i choose edit unattend xml a second problem arised: he tries to open the unattend but gives a error. So i start system image manually and want to open the unattend.xml which is in the control\imagename folder. Then he says that the unattend is not attached to an image?

It looks like something is wrong with the LiteTouchPE_x86.wim but how can i see what it is?

Dear all

I am deploying Windows 8.1 using MDT 2013. I have build a custom wim which i captured. While capturing i used built in administrator account, added some business applications ,  removed the modern apps which were not needed and then customized the Windows 8.1 start screen.

Now when i deploy the WIM on a computer , after applying wim the deployment goes to setting up windows where i get messaged like getting things ready and we are almost done etc...  this takes quite a bit of time and installed  the metro applications which I  removed before capture.

How do i disable the "getting things done " etc.. screens? and how to i make sure that the modern applications are not installed for all new users?  I uninstalled all the metro apps before capture.

Thank you

Anurag

ZTI ERROR - Non-zero return code by ZTIGather, rc = 8000ZTIGather2/23/2015 8:42:59 AM0 (0x0000)

The customsettings.ini does exist on the share.

I have another odd thing happening here. I found another deployment share on the server when we only created one. I have no idea how this happened or if someone else created the share. They are identical. Is there a way to delete this share? Could this cause a conflict in successful operation of the task sequence? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
