Language Selection in UDI has no effect

$

I started this topic while ago on ConfMgr forum, but I didn´t get any decent answer, I also found this Blog but it doesn´t work for me with MDT 2013

I have MDT 2013 integration in ConfMgr 2012 R2 and I use MDT based Task Sequence with UDI. If I select any language from UDI page, the selection has no effect. It will be installed as UK. I use native unattended.xml from MDT Settings package.

Could someone confirm, does it even works or not? Only selection which works from that page, is the GUI language itself since I have integrated Language Packs to my image, but keyboard layout and user locale are always UK.

I also tried;
- to set default variables of languages in TS
- to use simple unattended file done with wism
- MDT files and settings packages are updated to DP after change

WinPe Resolution Issue

Hello everyone! I have an issue where WinPE even the "loading files" progress bar that appears before PE is loaded show off screen... It looks as though WinPE is showing an image larger than the resolution but this only affects my Lenovo machines (ThinkPad W530, W540, S431). If I PXE boot my Dell machines (M6500, M6600) the PE environment fits fine on the screen. Resolution in Windows after deployment is also fine on both my models (Lenovo and dell) its only PE that gives me an issue on Lenovo hardware. Any ideas? Is this an issue with PXE on UEFI hardware from Lenovo? Also to note if I use my old MDT 2012 share the PE environment loads fine on my Lenovo hardware. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! :)

MDT 2013 Surface Pro 2 Fails to format and partition disk

I have 3 Surface Pro 2's that all act the same. I have a docking station that I use to connect to the USB stick and the network. When I boot to the USB stick it connects to the server just fine. After I make my selections to install the Surface Pro image it starts the processing and gets to the MDT screen "Format and Partition Disk". Well it just sits there...forever if I let it. I have tried changing the MDT configuration to format the disk as GPT instead of MBR with no change in the result. I have imaged a couple of Surface Pro's (not Surface Pro 2's) without this error being displayed. I have changed the UEFI bios settings trying to find a combination that might let the disk get formatted, no luck. I can tell that the partitioning does work, just not the formatting of the disk.

If anyone has any ideas on how to diagnose this it would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at the log files but due to their size am unable to find anything of interest in there.

MDT 2013 Remote Monitoring and LocationServer.xml

I recently set up MDT remote monitoring on our main deployment server and I've noticed some odd behavior. I have two shares on the server (one for deploying Server OSes and one for deploying Client OSes). Oddly enough remote monitoring appears to pick up any server OS deployment just fine, but when I deploy a client OS it never picks it up. The only real difference between these two is the boot media. On the boot media for deploying client OSes I'm using LocationServer.xml to allow my helpdesk team to select from a list of several deployment shames. Could this be the reason why it’s not working and (assuming it is) is there any way to fix it?

MDT 2012 Replace computer task sequence

Hello all,

I am using MDT 2012 Update 1 for upgrading over 200 machines from Windows XP to Windows 7.

Some of these machines are going to be REFRESH scenario. I have the task sequence for REFRESH scenario and it is working as expected.

However, I do not know how to create REPLACE scenario task sequence. From what I understand, I need to create two tasks sequences. I have created a task sequence that capture user's data and upload it to a share.

But how do I create a restore task sequence that restores that data to another computer after installing OS? What do I need to in the restore task sequence that either prompts me to select where to restore the data from or knows where the data is?

In SCCM there is computer association, but I have not been able to figure out how to do it purely using MDT.

Any expert help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Change Local Admin Password

Ok so I have just been tasked with changing the local admin password in my task sequence to something unique for each computer. Currently in my master image I have a custom local admin account. When I deploy the computers using MDT it always enable the local Administrator account to login and finish the install after rebooting. What I need to do is have the local Administrator account disabled and only have my custom local admin account enabled with a unique password. For instance lets say my computer name is test25. I would my custom local admin account to set the password as "mypasswordxxx" which would be "mypasswordtest25". Any ideas?

Is anyone else having an issue installing apps on certain platforms?

I've set certain apps to only install on windows 8 and 8.1 machines but they are not installing

Hide Set Network Location Wizard and all windows update

I'm trying to capture a reference image Win7 x86 SP1 using MDT 2013 in VMware environment. Problem I'm having is the Set Network Location wizard pops up. How do you hide this?

I tried using http://powertoe.wordpress.com/2009/12/28/enable-powershell-remoting-while-running-vmware-workstation-in-a-domain/ PS script which did not work (added PS as very a first step in State Restore).

Also, by default unattended.xml has ProtectMyPC is 1. If left at default even though Windows Updates are disabled one of the updates get deployed. Why? Workaround I have used is to set ProtectMyPC as 3.

Deployment of OEM media on New PCs NO KEY ON PC

$

All,

We have been for many years now successfully deploying Windows XP, Vista, and 7 using the OEM media supplied by Dell and the Key on the label of each PC.  Basically, we accept new PCs from Dell and then use MDT to install to our spec the OS and software needed for deployment.  The OS is always the OS that came native to the PC in question.  With Win 7 we found that placing the product key in the script seems to work for installation but does't seem to work for activation.  By this I mean we usually have to re-enter the key at the time of activation and all goes well.

Enter MS license changes.  Apparently MS is not providing the Key sticker to OEMs any more and therefore the newest Dell PCs we receive do not have a license key for Windows 7.  Without a key we're dead in the water.

There has to be away around this problem without having to by additional Volume or Retail copies of the OS.   Anyone have any ideas?

Change THIS PC icon in desktop to %computerName%. windows 8.1

hi all,

  I used

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}]
"LocalizedString"=hex(2):25,00,63,00,6f,00,6d,00,70,00,75,00,74,00,65,00,72,00,\
  6e,00,61,00,6d,00,65,00,25,00,00,00

in windows 7 to change icon of my comptuer to %computername%. In windows 8.1 its giving permission denied.

Is there way to take ownership of local administrator during mdt 2013 deployment. Currently, has TrustedInstaller has full Control.

or is there other way to do this. Currently, GPO is not feasible.

thanks

'Unable to find LiteTouch.wsf...' - after deployment via MEDIA/USB

Hey, and thanks for any advice in advance :-)

I'm having some problems when I deploy a captured image of Windows Server 2012, using a media located on a USB drive. After the deployment is complete, and Windows boots up, I get an error message stating:

'Script not found
Unable to find LiteTouch.wsf needed to continue the deployment.'

Additionally, when I check either of BDD.log and LiteTouch.log in the MININT folder on the deployed system, the following error message is shown,

'<![LOG[FAILURE ( 5212 ): Welcome wizard failed or was cancelled]LOG]!><time="08:15:10.000+000" date="11-26-2012" component="LiteTouch" context="" type="3" thread="" file="LiteTouch">'

Any suggestions to what might be causing this error to appear?

MDT With USMT4.0 Loadstate - Multiple 4 Minute Delay Warnings

$

Hello all,

First time posting for help and I can’t wrap my head around this issue. I am currently running MDT 2012 and USMT4 with the hotfix for x64 and x86 (KB2023591) on a Windows 7 x64 machine while deploying from a USB media. My issue is with USMT, particularly when trying to do an online capture. Whenever scanstate is executed from an online replace scenario task sequence during a deployment, everything is captured smoothly in a .mig file. When MDT tries to load the data back into the machine by using loadstate. It loads the user profiles within 2 minutes and the “This Computer” profile takes about 4 to 5 hours to transfer 350MB. After looking at the logs I came across multiple instances where there appears to be 4 minute delays in the data processing, please see the log snippets below. Apparently the logs are saying that it stalls for about 4 minutes exactly whenever it tries to use “search indexer: Win32Exception”. Does anyone know why it keeps hanging for 4 minutes in these multiple spots?

Here is the Scanstate command that MDT runs:
Command line: C:\MININT\USMT\X64\scanstate.exe E:\Deploy\Applications\BackupHERE /v:5 /c /o /i:C:\MININT\USMT\X64\MigApp.xml /i:C:\MININT\USMT\X64\Migdocs.xml /config:C:\MININT\USMT\X64\ZTIUserState_Config.xml /l:C:\MININT\SMSOSD\OSDLOGS\USMTcapture.log /progress:C:\MININT\SMSOSD\OSDLOGS\USMTcapture.prg

Here is the Loadstate command that MDT runs:
E:\Deploy\Tools\x64\USMT4\loadstate.exe E:\Deploy\Applications\BackupHERE /v:5 /c /lac /i:E:\Deploy\Tools\x64\USMT4\MigApp.xml /i:E:\Deploy\Tools\x64\USMT4\Migdocs.xml /config:E:\Deploy\Scripts\ZTIUserState_Config.xml /l:E:\logs\USMTrestore.log /progress:E:\logs\USMTrestore.prg

Here are the log snippets:

CustomSettings.ini settings clear after selecting TS

I am trying to automate as much as possible using the Customsettings file, and when the WinPE starts, I see all the sections I told it to skip missing in the side, however, when I click on a TS to deploy an image, all the settings in Customsettings go away, even the default ones, such as asking for the admin password.  Any reason why?

Partitioning for Surface Pro 2 when deploying Windows 8.1

$

Greetings,

I first tried to use our standard Windows 8.1 task sequence which at the very first step partitions the disk and then does a restart. This failed obviously due to the type of partitioning we have done in the past not being compatible with the UEFI thing. I have searched the web and get very different answers from creating four partition to creating one non-efi partition. What is the %100 correct detailed answer please to how to create partitions in a task sequence which the Surface Pro 2 will happily work with?

And how do I partition it the disk if I want to bitlocker it? Do I create the two partitions - 1 bde (system) and 1 C drive (boot)? Do these both have to be GPT?

Thanks
