MDT 2013 map network drive failed

$

HI Guys,

I just get some problems about map a network drive with command line in MDT 2013.

The following is my test environment (in vmware workstation) .

DC : Windows server 2008 R2  (with ADDS DNS DHCP WDS )

  MDT : Windows server 2008 R2 + MDT 2013

  Sql   : Windows server 2008 R2 + Sql express 2008

Client: which will be pushed OS

I create a task senquence to push os to a virtual machine and it is successful when I using default disk partition step .

But I want to test with the way of diskpart command with a txt . First of all I add command line to map the Y: drive where the diskpart.txt file located (command "net use Y: \\mdt\deploymentshare$ /user:test\administrator Password"). Then Add the other command line that "diskpart /s Y:\diskpart.txt" . It failed at last .

I found that failed to map the Y: network drive . The most strange thing is that I can map successfully by manual in windows PE after pushing stoped .

Does anyone know how to map a network drive in MDT with command line ? Thanks a lot .

Automatically create a custom VPN connection and set default wallpaper in a deployment...

$

Hey guys,

I've been hard at work on creating a custom deployment for our company to allow us to start rolling out Windows 7 at the first of next month. I demonstrated it to the brass today and they were blown away. All they asked for was two changes and I admit I'm stumped. Hopefully someone here can help:

1 - Set Default Wallpaper for *all* users: I've written a script to copy our company wallpaper to "C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper" during a deployment. Is there any way I can modify that script to set that wallpaper as default for anyone who logs into that computer. Or if there's a non-script way to do this I'm all ears. I just need that wallpaper as default.

2 - Create a VPN Connection for our company intranet: Right now this is being done manually in the Network and Sharing Center. All they are doing is choosing "Set up a new connection or network" >> "Connect to a workplace" >> "Use my Internet Connection (VPN)" and just entering our VPN server IP Address and giving the connection a name. Surely there has to be a way to automate this with a script or something? Can anyone help?

3 - BONUS: This is just gravy, but if anyone can tell me how to "silently" or "automatically" disable the "Highlight newly installed programs" checkbox for all users using a script or something, that would be *wonderful*.

Can anyone help me here?

Restoring a MDT captured image windows 8.1 changes the junction point when the image is restored

$

Hi All,

I can successfully Capture and deploy a windows 8.1 UEFI image using MDT (note not using SCCM - Only light touch). Never had these problems with win7, although these were in BIOS mode.

However on restoring the image when I go and check the junction points for programdata they have changed to a different drive letter (this causes issues for certain apps I install as it expects this to be c:). The command to check the juntion points I used was dir c:\programdata /al but the output will show i.e. the juntions pointing to a different letter i.e. k which does not exist. The original image where I took the image from has the juntion points set correctly.

I have narrowed down to what I think the problem is, but am struggling to identify how to fix this, help would be much appreciated. If I restore the wim file not using MDT but Manually using the DISM commands, I have identified that when I apply the image, I have to make sure the image is applied to a partition that has a drive letter of C:. If I restore the image to a different letter I can see this messes up the junction points, and takes this letter although when looking at my computer it will still show as drive c:

With MDT I set the Task Sequence to set the drive to be C to format and apply the image to, however when my MDT Pxeboots drive C is being assigned load the Minint. Which the causes a problem when formatting the drive. I assume it doesn't reassign the minint to another drive letter.  Any ideas or help would be of great help. Thanks in advance.

MDT 2010 Deploy, DHCP Error

hi all

from time to time we I have with MDT deploy Windows 7.

Error: "A connection to the deployment share  could not be made. DHCP lease was not optained for any networking." START - cmd ipconfig show's a correct DHCP IP Address. There was a new Icon/Link "resume task sequence"  on Desktop. After I click "resume Task sequence" it works fine (without reboot, without modification)

DHCP lease time is 1 day. Workstation is fast and have SSD Drive. Is this a timing problem.

Life of task sequence variables, including custom ones MDT 2012 upd 1

$

I am trying to get my head around the use and lifetime of task sequence variables, particularly OSDComputername and a couple of custom ones.  These seem to be arbitrarily available or not, and I cannot seem to locate a definitive answer.  This article was suggested as a possible topic, but does not seem to address this issue in the context of MDT--I cannot find an option to "disable 64 bit redirection."

I am building a custom 64 bit Win 7 image in a 64 bit environment on a 64 bit VM.

In CS.ini, I set OSDComputername to a suggested name, providing most of the text to which I add a sequential number in the wizard.  The wizard sets (overrides) the initial computer name as expected.  I use two custom properties, declared in CS.ini, named mdtUserName and ModelAlias.  The former is based on OSDComputername and is the basis for creating a user account in the last steps of the TS.  The latter is used to rationalize %model%, which is munged on Lenovo laptops, in order to manage driver selection.

In searching for answers it has been suggested in several articles that TS variables should last through the lifetime of the deployment, and I thought that by explicit declaration in the Properties section of CS.ini this would certainly be true.  The log reflects the fact that these are added as new custom properties.  So far I have not tested ModelAlias, but mdtUserName certainly does not persist; its value is empty when accessed in a later TS step.  It is also suggested that modifying TS variables in a TS step would produce results only for that step or phase, depending on who wrote the article.  My question is, how do I set a custom property, or TS variable, so that its value persists throughout the TS?  Or should I be setting it immediately before use?

Using a standard TS template, I set my variables in two separate scripts as the first two steps of the Preinstall group.  Within the ztiutility wrapper template, this is my workhorse code (for mdtUserName):

    oEnvironment.Item("OSDComputerName")=lcase(oEnvironment.Item("OSDComputerName"))
    oEnvironment.Item("mdtUserName")=mid(oEnvironment.Item("OSDComputerName"),6)

For ModelAlias, I use the script from this article as the basis.  I have not tested this on real hardware yet, but I have a feeling that this will not work either.  Can anyone shed some light on this?

Pushing an image across a WAN and adding it to a domain

Hello everyone.

I work for a state government agency that has two satellite offices in the same state.  Whenever we have to rebuild a PC/reimage a PC in either of those offices we have to build the PC at the main office and then drive it to the satellite office.  I am wondering if there is a better solution.  We do have a high-speed WAN set up between these locations so speed/bottlenecking is not really an issue.

Ultimately what I would like to do is this: be able to push an image across the WAN to a PC in a satellite office and then have a way to add it into the domain located in the main office.  This all needs to be done somehow from the main office as we have no IT staff in either satellite location.

Any suggestions or advice in this matter would be EXTREMELY appreciated.

Thank you all for your time!!!!

Connection to the deployment share could not be made (network driver not installed)

Hi guys! i bought the new laptop Dell Latitude E6510 and try to install the enterprise image but i got the error:

"A connection to the deployment share could not be made. The deployment will not proceed. The following networking device did not have a driver installed PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_10EA&SUBSYS_040B1028&REV_05."

I look on internet and i found out that it is the intel network card driver missing. So i get the driver from Dell website and i added this drivers in the MDT console.

Then i have updated the deployment share to rebuild the boot images. Everything went fine but i always get this error.

Am I missing something ?

Problem with Windows Deployment via LiteTouch on remote subnet

$

This is a very odd problem.  It did not happen until I updated everything to the new WinPE for Windows 8.

I could deploy Win 7 via litetouch all day long on all of our subnets.  When I updated the MDT to the latest version, my remote subnet no longer can image over the network.  It boots to the usb drive and authenticates to the network.  It even pulls up the list of deployment packages that we can select from.  We can choose either our Win 7 or Win 8 deployment and it will act like it's starting, but will get the attached error every time.

The same boot disk works fine for both Windows 7 and Windows 8 on the subnet local to the MDT server share.

I'm pretty baffled as to what happened and what to do about it.  I know that it's attaching and communicating on the network because the litetouch wizard obviously authenticates.  It seems that it's network related, but how and why?  It does this on both older and newer hardware on the remote subnet.

Any suggestions out there?

Hello I have had trouble getting the workstation to acually lock during the task sequence. I have tried many different ways including putting the command in the task sequence or even running it form a command file. It appears to run but just doesn't lock the machine.

Any ideas. Sorry about the code dump. Its a bit messy. BTW Z: drive is mapped

MDT 2012 Drivergroup Lenovo

$

I am fighting an issue that is driving me crazy.  We are wanting to  use drivergroups to manage drivers for our systems.

We are using the modified zt1gather script from:

http://smulpuru.wordpress.com/2011/02/16/mdt-custom-variable-for-lenovo-model-drivergroup/

The script correctly identifies the actual model say Thinkpad T420s instead of the number from lenovo.  In the preinstall of the task sequence, I have the following setup. It is set to run before the inject drivers.

In my customsettings.ini file I have the following

DriverSelectionProfile=Nothing
DriverGroup001=%LenovoModel%

For my drivers for testing, I have a folder called Thinkpad T420s.  In my Bdd.log it shows the system, but never pulls the drivers in.  I have tried multiple different configuration, and unable to get it to work.  If I use a simple selection profile it works just fine, but I would prefer not to do it that way.

I need to install company fonts in windows 7. I use MDT 2010 to install OS and my applications, this works great, but when I try to install fonts (the way I use to do for XP,...objFontsFolder.CopyHere FontName...) it just does not work. The fonts are not installed.

How can I install a font using MDT in Windows 7

Thanks

using the OSDResult from MDT2013 doesn´t work for me when i deploy a Desktop machine. If i deploy a Laptop, then it works
When the OSD_InstallOSDResults.vbs runs this section
' Enables Mouse Pointer only if the registry exists, meaning we are in win 8 '

it doesn´t find anything on a Desktop, and that seems to end up with not running the OSDResult on the machine.
the Deployment Complete screen newer shows on a Desktop - only on Laptops

Error in unattend file windows 8 and 8.1 sysprep

Hi,

I am using MDT 2013 and ADK 8.1. I am trying to deploy Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 base image. Once the PC has finished imaging and starts the first boot it come up with the following message:

"Windows could not parse or process the unattend answer file for pass [specialize].  The setting in the answer file cannot be applied.  The error was detected while processing settings for component [Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup]."

I have not created any answer files, I think this is created automatically my MDT when you create a Task Sequence.

I am not trying to deploy a custom image, this is the base image that was taken off the DVD and imported to MDT. When I use the DVD to install the OS it works fine but not through MDT.

Any help will be much appreciated..

Thanks

Using MDT Variables at a command prompt

Is it possible to use Task Sequence variables on a "Run Command Line" step?

I have as my command line:

loadstate.exe \\%UDShare%\%UDDir% /v:5 /c  /i:"C:\MININT\USMT\X64\MigApp.xml" /i:"C:\MININT\USMT\X64\MigUser.xml" /i:"C:\MININT\USMT\X64\MigDocs.xml" /i:"C:\MININT\USMT\X64\migexcludexternaldrives.xml" /i:"C:\MININT\USMT\X64\migmydocs.xml" /i:"C:\MININT\USMT\X64\migwallpaper.xml" /config:"C:\MININT\USMT\X64\ZTIUserState_Config.xml"

And my Start in is:

C:\MININT\USMT\X64

But I receive an error that seems that it is running the command with "\\%UDShare%\%UDDir%" instead of inserting the values for the variables.

Multicast Transfer Rate MDT 2012 Update 1 Displayed As 0 Bps

When I look in WDS on Server 2008 R2 and look at multicast transmissions in progress it shows them all as 0 Bps.

I tried refreshing and it doesn't change.

When I go to the client and view the progress, the percentage complete is rising.  So, it clearly is not 0 Bps.

How can I see the correct transfer rate?
