MAK, Lang, apps problems

Hi,

I got 3 problems.

1. The MAK license diden't successfully activate itself.

2. The keyboard language is wrong, its english and needs to be in swedish, atm im trying to creata a new custom wim.

-I'v tried changing it in customsettings by : UserLocale=sv-SE

3. The applications that we previously had to our old wim does not get installed on my new custom wim.

-Applications is a step in the task seq. I'v also tried to add
[GuiRunOnce]
    "cscript.exe C:\MININT\Scripts\LiteTouch.wsf /start"
    "cscript.exe D:\MININT\Scripts\LiteTouch.wsf /start"
    "cscript.exe E:\MININT\Scripts\LiteTouch.wsf /start"
    "cscript.exe F:\MININT\Scripts\LiteTouch.wsf /start"

in a sysprep file, but the wierd thing is that I copied the sysprep file that we had in our 32x bit folder to my new 64 bit, but I don't think this is working. How can I create one for the 64x bit?

Am i supposed to execute sysprep when creating an capture or not?

Best regards a new itsupport guy.

Id there a way to customize the USMT step to only capture and restore user data and not custom Windows settings?

unattend.xml, - copy profile-default user

$

I have several parts to this post and I'm hoping that someone has the time to answer. I have been reading till I'm almost blind.

I want to configure the default profile to be copied with MDT2012. I had enabled the local administrator and made all my configurations to this profile. I then captured the image and imported the wim to deploy it. After setting up my deployment sequence I opened the xml file and added the "copy profile true"

I found a script to enable the administrators account after deployment and copied that into the xml also. I deployed the image and the profile was not there, settings were gone. I am going to paste a copy of the xml for review. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. ( I'm editing the xml due to the fact that this is for a 32 bit machine and I can't use WSIM on this)

The file "ifM63x64.sys" is the "IntelEthernetFCoEVirtualStorportMiniportDriverVersion1.14.12.0."

If I install the driver by handon a similar pc, it works very well.
And the most interesting is that this Windows BootManager error also appears whenI add another driver Intel (for PCI Serial Port), to deployto another computer.

MDT 2013 select disk number

Hi,

I have a problem with selecting the right disk. Our servers have muliple disk one logical and one or more LUN's. Do i need to remove the mass storgae drivers from Windows PE or is there a way that MDT automaticaly select the first logical disk? During the enumerating of the attached disks the LUN's where detected before the Logical (RAID disk) in the servers so the logicl disk number is n+1, where n is the number of LUN's attached to the system.

A question on how to deploy applications in MDT 2012

$

I have been building a deployment solution to deploy different builds of Win 7.  The only difference between the builds is which applications are installed as part of the build, for example:

All builds need the generic applications such as Office, Adobe Reader, Anti virus, etc.  Then I want to install the applications specific to the different builds, photoshop for a graphics dept build, Adobe premiere for video dept build etc.  I want to make this as easy as possible for the build operator so that no mistakes can be made in which applications are installed on each build.  I would like a selection for Graphics Build, Video Build, Generic Build (just the generic apps) etc.  Is there a way to do this with a selection made at the computer name part of the MDT sequence so that no user interaction is required after this point?

Thank you very much in advance for any help.

Checking a computer name against AD

Hello,

I have two custom panes I have added to the Deployment Wizard immediatly after the credentials pane.  The first one allows the user to enter information into several custom fields.  These are setup as custom properties in the customsettings.ini.  The second is basically a verification page.  On this page I have an autogenerated computer name based on input from the first page.  I'm trying to figure out how to have MDT check the autogenerate computer name against Active Directory to be sure it doesn't exist.  If it does exist, I need it to prompt the user to go back and make changes.  I have the MDT Web Services setup and working, but I'm not sure how/where to place the code.  Has anyone set up something similar?  Thanks.

Custom XML file in USMT 5.0 not working as expected?

Hi there!

New to USMT and trying to figure out how this works :) Not easy!

Now i am trying to do a simple custom xml that will migrate all files and folders in the folder C:\test_files and i got it to work with the following XML-file.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><migration urlid="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/CustomXML"><!-- This component migrates data in system context --><component type="Documents" context="SYSTEM" defaultSupported="Yes"><displayName>TestMig</displayName><role role="Data"> <rules context="SYSTEM"><include><objectSet><pattern type="File">c:\test_files\*[*]</pattern></objectSet></include></rules></role></component></migration>

I use the this command:

scanstate.exe C:\ /i:"CustomXML.xml" /l:"C:\scanstate.txt" /v:13 /listfiles:"C:\Listfiles.txt"

The problem is that the scanstate finds to much files to migrate!

In the Listfiles.txt i create i get a lot of user specific settings for Administrator on the machine including my files and folder in test_files.

Example:

C:\test_files\Mapp1
C:\test_files
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color
C:\Windows\Media\Sonata
C:\Windows\Media\Savanna
C:\Windows\Media\Raga
C:\Windows\Media\Quirky
C:\Windows\Media\Landscape
C:\Windows\Media\Heritage
C:\Windows\Media\Garden
C:\Windows\Media\Festival

Why oh why? i just specify my custom xml file, is there some standard folders that scanstate always go through?

Thanks!

MDT Multicasting

Is Multicasting only supported with the use of WDS (and PXE)?  We do not use PXE right now, we boot from USB and utilize LTI deployments but can only image 1 computer at a time (or we get dirty enviroment error).  Is there a way to image more than 1 computer at a time via USB boot? (not standalone USB boot)

MDT 2012 - HTA Deployment Wizard and UDI

Hello Folks,

Please forgive me if this sounds like a silly question. What is the difference between the HTA based Deployment Wizard and UDI? What are the key features and differences between the two, and under what scenarios can/should each be used?

Thank you.

DISM Error:5 error when building boot ISO with WADK 8 and MDT 2012 sp1

Hi

Environment: Windows server 2008 R2(VM), 2GB RAM, WADK 8, MDT 2012 SP1

When I try to build a boot ISO using either MDT or ImageX, I receive an error when DISM is used to add packages.

Processing 1 of 1 - Adding package WinPE-HTA-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.2.9200.16384
An error occurred - WinPE-HTA-Package Error: 0x80070005

Error: 5

Access is denied.

This repeats for all WINPE packages being added by DISM.

I have rebuilt the server and reinstalled but the same affect. I have tried running it as admin, editing rights and making the name of the packages lower case but cannot seem to get anywhere. Any help would be great.

Getting values from .vbs to CustomSettings.ini

$

I need some help getting CustomSettings.ini populated dynamically.

There are a lot of hits out there when I search for using web services or vbs scripts but I'm failing to join the dots and actually populate a value.

I am trying to get the computer name via the web service. I.e. the CustomSettings.ini value 'OSDComputerName'

I have made a .vbs script that successfully queries a web service and then selects the appropriate value from the XML:

<job id="MDTMenu_name"><script language="VBScript" src="..\ZTIUtility.vbs"/><script language="VBScript" src="..\ZTIDataAccess.vbs"/><script language="VBScript">

Dim oService
Dim oXML

Set oService = New WebService
oService.IniFile = "CustomSettings.ini"
oService.SectionName = "asset_query"

Set oXML = oService.Query

' Configure the namespace
Dim ns
ns = "http://unitedwholesale.com.au/webservices/external/"
oXML.SetProperty "SelectionNamespaces", "xmlns:ns ='" & ns & "'"

If oXML Is Nothing Then
	oLogging.CreateEntry "Unable to call UserGetName web service.", LogTypeWarning
	WScript.Echo "Not Found" & vbcrlf
Else
	WScript.Echo oXML.SelectSingleNode("/ns:AssetInfo/ns:ID").Text
	Dim OSDComputerName
	OSDComputerName = oXML.SelectSingleNode("/ns:AssetInfo/ns:ID").Text
End If</script></job>

My CustomSettings.ini looks like this:

[Settings]
Priority=Default
Properties=MyCustomProperty

[Default]
OSInstall=Y
SkipCapture=NO
SkipAdminPassword=YES
SkipProductKey=YES
SkipComputerBackup=YES
SkipBitLocker=NO
SkipUserData=YES
SkipDomainMembership=YES

JoinDomain=xxx.net
DomainAdmin=yyy
DomainAdminDomain=zzz
DomainAdminPassword=xxx

UserDataLocation=NONE

[asset_query]
WebService=https://mywebservice.example.com/assetservice.asmx/GetAssetByMacAddress
Parameters=macAddress

I know I am missing some fundamentals but I can't seem to find any useful posts about how to actually link back my extracted XML values in my script to variables in my CustomSettings.ini.

Any pointers appreciated!

Roles not working correctly

$

Hi,

Recently I have noticed an issue with how the Roles function on our server works.

We have two Roles per computer in the Database. One role specifies the Task Sequence and any other specific details and the other role specifies any additional application that need installing. This has been working perfectly for us for the last 2/3 years but over the Christmas period it has changed it`s behaviour. The application role now no longer seems to apply the additional applications. I am a bit confused why this is because nothing has changed and it is behaving in an unpredictable manor.

What I mean by that is if I remove the role that adds the task sequence and add the content of that role direct to the machine I run into the same issue. If I just remove the role with the task sequence and do nothing else it doesn't image, so it is looking at the roles. I have tried other roles that are applications specific to see if it was is that role in particular but it made no difference.

I have run out of idea now so if anyone has come across this or if thee is anything I can try please let me know.

here is my cs.ini

WIndows Enterprise 8.1 - MDT 2013

Hi All

I'm using MDT2013 and ADK 8.1.

I am trying to create a new Windows 8.1 ent build and am having a few strange issues...

I have created a standard TS for the initial build, when I deploy the TS everything works as expected except the build doesn't seem to have all the Modern UI apps installed.  At first I assumed this may be a slight change MS made and the builtin administrator account just doesn't have them installed anymore..  But when I create a new local user account and log in I still don't have any of the apps installed.  All that is present on the start screen is IE - Store - File explorer - Skydrive and desktop, things like weather, news, sport and so on don't seem to be installed in the default user profile..

I manually built a machine from the media and the apps do seem to be installed.  I know during the default install the default admin account gets disabled and a new account is created.  This account does have all the apps installed, so on here when you add a new user these apps are present..

Am I missing something here (hopefully something simple :-))? is there something specific I need to add to my unattend.xml file to allow the apps to be installed? do I need to create a new user account during the build to allow the apps to install?

I followed the same process when I created a windows 8.0 build and didn't have any of these issues.

Thanks for any advice.. Simon

Variable to change local admin password?

$
0
0

I've been asked to dynamically set the local admin password using a constant string ending with the end half of the computer name but depending upon which location it's based in.

So, adminpassxxx where xxx is the comp name: Win7lap047 but there's an added complication:

If the computer name is Win7lap047 the local admin password should be adminpassxxx(adminpass047)

If the computer name is Win7desk027 the local admin password should be adminpassxxx(adminpass027)

If the computer name is HomeWin7lap038 the local admin password should be adminpasshomexxx(adminpasshome038)

Home machines are in their own OU and will be stored in the MDT database with a different location based on subnet.

I'm assuming it's the %adminpassword% variable I need to change and that this can be done using a vb script to split the OSDComputerName but how do I script around the location?  I've not started this yet so I may have these assumptions all wrong yet.

Hoping that someone has already faced this problem,

Unable to connect to Deployment Share after restart MDT2012

Hello Everyone,

Unfortunately in our organization we are currently deploying over 26 different model computers using 4 different vendors including: Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Surface Pro. The issue we are facing is for only ONE model the Lenovo X1 Carbon. This issue is specific to Windows 7 only. When imaging Windows 8 on this model everything works fine.

So here is the situation. When imaging Windows7 on the Lenovo X1 Carbon and after Windows is already loaded our TS installs several pieces of software requiring reboots. After each reboot we get an error Unable to connect to Deployment Share there is an option for retry. If we give the machine a few extra seconds after loading in to Windows we can click retry and the TS resumes and will finish successfully. The real issue is that now the "unattended" deployment in no longer unattended. We have 11 reboots during our deployment requiring our imaging tech to click retry 11 times and monitor the deployment. Any help getting us back on an unattended deployment would be great.

Thanks!

MDT 2013 - Linking CustomSettings.ini/Rules on Deployment Share / Media?

Hello,

I have made changes to the Deployment Share rules (CustomSettings.ini).

I see there is a separate Rules tab if I create new Media.

Is there a way to have the deployment share rules to sync with the media ones? Or must these be managed separately?

Thanks!

Seprate Silent installation proofing tools 2010

Hello,

i am trying to do a silent installation of MS proofing tools 2010.

On my cliënts office 2010 is already installed.

I am trying to do this with the following config.xml

<Configuration Product="Proofkit">

 <!-- <Display Level="full" CompletionNotice="yes" SuppressModal="no" AcceptEula="YES" /> -->

 <!-- <Logging Type="standard" Path="%temp%" Template="Microsoft Office Proofkit Setup(*).txt" /> -->

 <!-- <USERNAME Value="Customer" /> -->

 <!-- <COMPANYNAME Value="Customer" /> -->

 <!-- <INSTALLLOCATION Value="%programfiles%\Microsoft Office" /> -->

 <!-- <LIS CACHEACTION="CacheOnly" /> -->

 <!-- <LIS SOURCELIST="\\share\server\location of office 2010" /> -->

 <!-- <DistributionPoint Location="\\\share\server\location of office 2010" /> -->

 <!-- <OptionState Id="OptionID" State="absent" Children="force" /> -->

 <!-- <Setting Id="SETUP_REBOOT" Value="IfNeeded" /> -->

 <!-- <Command Path="%windir%\system32\msiexec.exe" Args="/i\\server\share\my.msi" QuietArg="/q" ChainPosition="after" Execute="install" /> -->

</Configuration>

I have tried this with MDT of working directory to the installation-dir of the proofing tools, and with the following quiet install:

setup.exe /config \\server\share\Proofing\ProofKit.WW\config.xml

This is still not working well.

What is needed to create a full working application-task sequence for MS proofing tools 2010?

Thx

MDT - Different desktop icons for each user account

Greetings folks, first-time poster here.

I am relatively experienced with MDT (using MDT 2013 to deploy Windows 8 and 8.1, without Active Directory).

Each client PC has three different user accounts, and each account needs to have different desktop icons.

I have a batch file that creates the user accounts in a task sequence during deployment (see below)

net user /add User1 pass123
net localgroup administrators User1 /add

and I have another batch file that copies the desired shortcuts to each user's desktop folder:

xcopy.exe "%deployroot%\Files\Desktop Icons\User1\*.*"   "c:\Users\User1\Desktop" /Q /H /E /I /Y

The problem is, as soon as you log on as "User1" for the first time, Windows 8 creates a new user profile in (C:\Users\).

Usually by appending the PC's name to the end of it, e.g. (C:\Users\User1-WorkPC).

Thus, the icons that I copied to (C:\Users\User1) get ignored.

I can't seem to figure it out.

Anyone have any advice?

Issue with Lenovo T440 windows 7 x64

We have recently got a new laptop the Lenovo T440. I imported the drivers into the deployment share. I also put storage and network drivers in WinPE folder. Once i boot to the PXE and select x64 it loads in to PE and gives an error saying that "the following network device did not have a driver installed. PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_155A&SUBSYS_221417AA&REV_04." It allows me to retry or cancel. I have booted it to windows found what driver it uses which is a e1d62x64. I have made sure that that driver was in the WinPE folder but it still isnt working i have even made it pull drivers only from a folder i created with only the t440 drivers. But that didn't work either. I am using PE version 3 (Windows 7) and all drivers i have installed are for Windows 7. If any one could help me with this issue that would be so awesome. I want to get this to work due to us more then likely getting more T440s. The networking hardware is a I218-LM if anyone needs to know that too.
