MDT 2012 and Server 2012 - Installing roles and features

Hi all.  I'm using MDT 2012 Update 1 to install Server 2012 Datacenter and am having problems getting the "Install Roles and Features" step to work.  I have the step enabled in the State Restore section of the Task Sequence and have SkipRoles=NO in the customsettings.ini, so the Install Roles and Features wizard comes up fine and I can make selections, the step executes but then I get an error for each role or feature I select in the ZTIOSRole.log and it doesn't install any of them - I've tried several different features and they all behave the same way.  Here is a portion of the ZTIOSRole.log:

Can I add a Windows 7 Code to CustomSettings.ini?

Problem with setting MachineObjectOU to value which contains spaces

$

0

I'm using MDT 2010.  When trying to specify an OU via the MachineObjectOU variable either from a Set Task Sequence Variable step or from the Rules/customsettings.ini, I am having trouble with it working if the path includes an OU which contains a space in the name.

For example:

OU=Workstations,OU=Computer Accounts,DC=domain,DC=net

OU=Try This,DC=domain,DC=net

I can specify the same exact string from the GUI of the Deployment Wizard and it will work as expected and place the new computer account in the correct OU.

I have tried quoting it in these two ways:

MachineObjectOU="OU=Workstations,OU=Computer Accounts,DC=domain,DC=net"

MachineObjectOU=OU=Workstations,OU="Computer Accounts",DC=domain,DC=net

I've searched all over and have found some similar mentions of problems, but those ended up being solved by permissions to the OUs.  In my case, I've tested with a Domain Admin account which most certainly has permissions.  I can specify other OUs that do not contain spaces through the same exact methods and they work without a problem.

Has anyone else run into this, or does anyone know of a workaround other than renaming the OUs?

Locked out local admin and script not working

Hello all,

First I have to update you more about why I believe I have big problem.

I configured and using successfully MDT in combination with WDS. I already created my W7 x64 image and deployed it several times succesfully. I want to add one more image for engineers who have a completely different system of W7 and using x86 platform. I live in Holland and the people who use this are in France. So I created a base for them and the pilot person is testing it. Because of pressure from management I have to deploy these laptops very soon for several good reasons. The communication is poor so I don't got feedback about their changes to the system. I need these changes to alter my MDT environment for this specific laptop. Because I run out of time I am forced to deploy it the dirty way so I will capture this laptop and save the image to use it in WDS. Normally I would make my changes to MDT, recreate the image, capture it and deploy it via WDS. Now I don't know the changes so this laptop may not be screwed up. It was a member of the domain. I cannot sysyprep it (litetouch.wsf via MDT) while it is a member of the domain so I demoted the workstation to a workgroup.

Here it comes: because of domain GPO the built-in administrator is disabled, a local user is created and made member of the local administrators group. somehow this is not working anymore. The situation I have now is: the local user is created but NOT member of the local administrator group and the built-in administrator is disabled. Also the laptop is in a workgroup now. I cannot do things where you need administrator rights for.

For example when I run the cscript \\fqdn_of_server\deploymentshare$\litetouch.wsf it runs but is failing in the section where it is 'Validating connection to' and then it names the hostname of the server instead fqdn. I tried to run it from IP address and from mapping but is givesw me the same result. I can browse to the deploymentshare$ share so I am getting mental about this. Maybe the fqdn is not the real problem because I am not in administrator mode/rights and will get into other errors if I get pass the fqdn problem.

What to do now? I really need to capture this laptop without a risk to screw it up and loosing the installed applications and more.

need help for FAMOUS: Error: 80070070 There is not enough space on the disk

Hello,

I am trying to capture freshly installed Windows 7 on HP Elite 8300 pc. After 2 days of unsuccessful experience of following web suggestions I am asking for help on forum. There is no at least one blog that has a unique solution(though some peoples succeeded to make it work) and all threads are finished with the same question "What is the solution?"

The computer has 100MB System Reserved and all the rest C: (460GB). I tried small partition too (80 GB and free space).

When try to capture I get: Error: 80070070 There is not enough space on the disk. I attach a screen shot of actual failure message. Logs are available...

But the problem is so common and discussed million times without an exact solution so don't think that logs will help. I can paste them if needed.

I had posted the question about this error in November 2010 when worked with MDT2010. Don't remember what was the magic that made it work.

Now I deployed a new MDT2012 SP1. Just don't believe that for first basic task such a nice solution fails. There are tons of posts regarding the issue and no solution.

WHAT SHOULD BE DONE on the MDT for making work a CAPTURE? Please...

The last post to my thread dated January 2013.

See please what the person says:

I have the same problem too - if you're trying to capture an image from a reference PC that has two partitions (1 being the hidden system partition, size 100mb) then the capture sequence fails. It fails becuase it tries to copy the WindowsPE boot image to this small partition but fails becuase it is not large enough.

If prior to capture you delete this 100mb hidden system partition then the capture will work fine. However I have found if you then deploy this image to other PCs after the image is applied it doesn't run the final task sequences, so in my case it doesn't get to naming and joing the PC to the domain.

Very frustrating!

HP EliteBook Folio 9470m Ultrabook - Flash Cache - Flash Cache

I'm trying to deploy Windows 7 x86 SP1 to an HP EliteBook Folio 9470m Ultrabook with Flash Cache.

I'm using MDT 2010 U1 and running the deployment from USB-media.

Reading the BDD.LOG I can see: "LTI applying image G:\Deploy\Operating Systems\W7 x86 Ent 007\7.wim using SETUP.EXE" and after 18 min  "Setup completed successfully." and "LTIApply processing completed successfully." After LTICopyscripts, ZTIConfigure, ZTIDrivers and ZTINextPhase the computer reboots and I'm getting "Windows boot manager 0xc000000f An error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data".
When I'm looking at the Boot Config with BCDEDIT.EXE I can see boot manager points at the Flash Cache installed in the machine:

HarddiskVolume3 is the Flash Cache (output from diskpart, list vol):

I've tried to read setupact.log but can't find whats going wrong.
How to handle computers with Flash Cache in deployment with MDT?

A connection to the deployment share cannot be made

Hello,

I moved the deployment share directory ($OEM$, Applications, Boot, Captures, etc) from one location to another:

From \\deploymentserver\deploymentshare\Windows 7\64-bit

To \\deploymentserver\deploymentshare\Windows\

I updated the Network (UNC) path in the deployment share properties in MDT to \\deploymentserver\deploymentshare\Windows\, and edited the bootstrap.ini file to read DeployRoot=\\deploymentserver\deploymentshare\Windows\

Since the bootstrap.ini file was modified, I completely regenerated the boot images and re-built bootable flash drives.

I am now getting a "A connection to the deployment share \\deploymentserver\deploymentshare\Windows\ could not be made. Connection OK. Possible cause: invalid credentials" error when booting the flash drive.

Deployment was working before without needing to specify a domain, username and password within the bootstrap.ini file. SkipAdminPassword=Yes has always been set in the customsettings.ini file.

Does anyone know if there is any other setting I need to change to get this working again?

Thank you,

Sean

I have just upgraded to MDT2012.. I have 2 deployment shares. One for windows 8 and one for windows 7.. The windows 8 share I have no issue with.

For the Windows 7 share, I cannot get past Dism  step 44.  The shares reside a Server 2008 R2 server with WDS.. I use the multicast transmission to access the

shares.. Disk 0 shows 2 partitions: Partition 1/primary/499 Mb and Partition 2/Primary/232 GB. I do have the BDD file but it was too large for this post. Please let me know which section is required for review. I had previously used MDT 2010 with very little issues . I had several task sequences and many applications etc.

thank you, Diane

When I exit the inital error and after the OS completes setup, I then get the error: Can not find script file "c\LTIbootsstrap.vbs

Error using the startMBAMEncryption.wsf in the TS

Hi all, Im using the process outlined in the various technet articles utilizing the StartMBAMEncryption.wsf and associated .REg files. to automate Bitlocker deployment throguh MDT (We are using MDt2010 update 1.. standalone)

We are trying to deploy this to various HP laptops and I have the correct Biosconfigutility.exe and the TPM is turning on, the MBAM client is installing.. everything looks good.. BUT

When it goes to process the last task which is the execution of the .WSF as follows

cscript "%SCRIPTROOT%\StartMBAMEncryption.wsf /AddRegFile:AddMBAMRegEntries.reg /RemoveRegFile:RemoveMBAMRegEntries.reg/WaitForEncryption:true"

I get the following error in the BDD.log

Application {87a83292-bea6-4168-8dc9-7d6bece8c556} has already been installed, will not install again.

ZTIZTIApplications processing completed successfully.

Litetouch deployment failed, Return Code = -2147467259  0x80004005 LiteTouch 10/10/2012 9:39:31 AM 0 (0x0000)

Again.. Ive verified the TPM is enabled is not owned .. all confirmed through the control panel. Any bootable media is out of the CD/DVD tray etc.. The 300MB partition is enabled and working as intended.

the 3 additional files are in the Scripts directory and Ive added them to the LTIcopyscripts array and they are local with the ZTIUtility.vbs

We are using the latest startMBAMEncryption.wsf (May 2012) so the MicrosoftFixit50797.msi isnt necessary. (according to the documentation.. I tried it anyways but it didnt help)

Anyone seen this particular issue or have any ideas? thanks in advance.

Auf deutsch:

Hallo Ihr Lieben,

ich hab im Internet folgende Anleitung gefunden, um mehrere Betriebssysteme von einem USB-Stick aus zu installieren:
http://www.com-magazin.de/praxis/win...ick-66272.html

Custom OU and Product Key Variables from Legacy VBScript

$

I have been digging for answers related to a customer requirement that the deploying local admin be able to enter in a two digit entity ID and a two digit entity site ID that is then concatenated together with a prefix of "OU" and a suffix of "computers"in order to select and place the computer in the proper OU in a very large and flat domain structure leveraging netdom.exe in their legacy XP deployment scripts.   They have refused using a dropdown list of existing OUs from either text file or AD because the sites change constantly and they want the manual ability.  I am looking for a way to prompt the admin for the required entries, use the two digit entity ID to select from 25 different company accountable Windows product keys, put the OU name together from the concatenated entity ID and site ID with the other items statically assigned, and set the MachineObjectOU and productkey variables for automatic use within an MDT deployment.  My prototype HTA consists of:

</head> <body> <center> <h3>Please enter your Company and Site information.</h3> <hr width="90%"> <h5>Select your Company where XX = Company two digit number</h5> <table> <tr> <td class="hdr">CompanyID#: </td> <td><input type="text" maxlength="02" size="02" id="txt_CompanyID"></td> </tr> </table> <br><h5>Select your Company site number where XX = Company site two digit number</h5> <table> <tr> <td class="hdr">CompanySiteID#: </td> <td><input type="text" maxlength="02" size="02" id="txt_CompanySiteID"></td> </tr></table> <br> <button class="button" id="btn_Back" title="Go back to previous Wizard panel">Back</button>&nbsp&nbsp <button class="button" id="btn_Next" onClick="HTA_Close()" title="Go to next Wizard panel">Next</button> </center> </body> </html>

An example of how the current XP script works with Netdom:

netdomcmd = "c:\scripts\netdom join " & CompName & " /Domain:" & FQDName & " /OU:" & OUName & " " & User_n_pwd & " /verbose"

And lastly, an example of what the MachineObjectOU variable would be populated with:

MachineObjectOU=OU=OU9901Computers,OU=BIG,DC=CORP,DC=com

Company99 key = ProductKey=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

I am looking for the quickest and most efficient way to accomplish this.  I am told that user error with selecting a valid company and site ID is acceptable if it fails to join and it has to be done manually after MDT complete.

Thanks so much!!

Ron

MDT 2012 SP1 rebooting through image deployment

I have a MDT 2012 SP1 and WDS running on a Windows 2008 R2 server.   After booting into the Lite Touch Windows PE and configuring the install.  Half way through the image deployment the PC reboots.  I then have to redo the process over again.   After the image completes and the PC reboots, I get a the ZTI Tatto error code 9601.     Also this only happens when I'm imaging more than one PC at a time.

Thanks.

Configure Static IP in CustomSettings.ini not working

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to deploy a Domain Controller with static IP address, but whenever I test the deployment I end up with a DHCP assigned IP address. Here's what's in my CS.ini:

[00:0c:29:79:e3:93]
ServerType=DC
NewDomain=Forest
NewDomainDNSName=klant.local
DomainNetBiosName=KLANT
SafeModeAdminPassword=*******
ForestLevel=4
DomainLevel=4
Sitename=Datacenter1
AutoConfigDNS=YES
ConfirmGC=YES
OSDComputerName=KLT-DC-01
TaskSequenceID=WS2008R2SE
OSDAdapter0EnableDHCP=FALSE
OSDAdapter0MacAddress=00:0c:29:79:e3:93
OSDAdapter0IPAddressList=10.10.0.2
OSDAdapter0SubnetMask=255.255.248.0
OSDAdapter0Gateways=10.10.0.254
OSDAdapter0DNSServerList=10.10.0.2,10.10.0.3
OSDAdapter0Name=LAN
OSDAdapter0DNSSuffix=klant.local
SkipWizard=Yes
SkipBDDWelcome=YES
SkipFinalSummary=YES

Can anyone tell me why this isn't working? The domain creation works, all the other settings in the MACaddress section are applied but I still get a DHCP address! Do I need to add a task in the TaskSequence? There's very little documentation on doing this using the CS.ini.

Getting "Windows could not parse or process the unattend answer file for pass [specialize]" with IE10 integration? Read this...

Hey guys,

I just discovered an issue with using MDT to integrate Internet Explorer 10 into Windows 7 & 2008 R2 image files. Building the images was no problem at all, but when I tried to deploy them it would bomb with this error every time:

"Windows could not parse or process the unattend answer file for pass [specialize]."

So a very annoying and cryptic error to say the least. Obviously the issue was with the unattend.xml file that gets auto-generated by MDT, but all the items under "specialize" had worked just fine when I built the image and the IE version was the only item that had changed. After comparing the Windows 7 & Server 2008 R2 unattend.xml files to my Windows 8 & Server 2012 unattend.xml files (because they have IE 10 native) I discovered that the following flag was missing from the Windows 8 & Server 2012 unattend.xml files:
<IEWelcomeMsg>false</IEWelcomeMsg>

So I simply commented it out like so:

Re-ran my test deployment and viola, 100% successful with zero errors. I was a little embarrassed/annoyed that this took me so long to track down, then I realized others might be struggling with this too so thought I'd share.

Hope my time spent saves someone else some grief!

Could not parse or process unattend answer file for pass [Specialize]

Hey everyone,

I'm having a peculiar issue with an image.  I currently use MDT 2010 to manage deploying Windows 7 Enterprise images to our machines.  In creating the problem image, I have done the following:

1. Installed Win7 Ent. from the DVD

2. Customized the installation with a few tweaks (this image is the most basic image I've ever made).

3. Part of the customization involved enabling the built-in admin account.  I then performed most of the changes using that account.

4.  After customization, I run the MDT sequence for Sysprep and Capture from within the admin account.

After successfully capturing the image and adding it into our task sequence list I try and deploy the image.  I get as far as "Completing Installation" and I receive the error message above.

Win7 + IE10 Slipstream error

I am trying to install a test image with IE10 slipstreamed in and getting an error "Windows could not parse or process unattend answer file [C:\windows\Panther\unattend.xml] for pass [specialize]. A component or setting specified in the answer file does not exist."  I used an original Win7 Ent SP1 image + IE10 and then imported full source as if from original DVD / ISO.  Then created a new sequence and problem still occurs.

I think it is being caused by:

<component name="Microsoft-Windows-IE-InternetExplorer" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
  <IEWelcomeMsg>false</IEWelcomeMsg>
</component>

Which I am not sure is a setting I set in MDT setup or a default setting?  This setting has been removed from IE10.

I'm using MDT 2012 with the database and add new users via the gui interface.  If it possible to add another field to the default ones?

Right now I have the default fields, ID, Description....Serial Number, MAC address but I'd also like to have OSDComputerName so that the end engineers don't have to click the Details tab and scroll down.

Cheers,

Multiple .NET Framework 4 update errors

$

During deployment of Windows 7 with MDT 2012 update1 I've got problems with several .NET Updates.

Let me explain more about our situation:

- A couple of months ago I've made a reference image with all kinds of Windows updates included (up to March 2013) (inclusive KB2468871)

- When I deploy a computer it got stucked with two updates: KB2804576+KB2836939

- Even trying to update from the internet won't let me install these updates.

.

.

I've found a work around for this, but I am looking for a better solution:

.

1. Connect the computer to the internet (Bypassing WSUS settings)

2. Repair .NET Framwork 4 client Profile

3. Check for updates from the Microsoft Update website

4. Now I've got three .NET Framwork 4 updates available instead of two: KB2804576+ KB2836939 + new is: KB2468871

5. If I now first install KB2804576+ KB2836939 it will succesfully install.

6. Then I install KB2468871 also succesfully.

7. Another check from the Microsoft Update website let me install another 5x .NET 4 Framework updates, which installs succesfully.

.

.

So I can conclude that somehow the KB2468871 in the reference image might not succesfully installed?

.

.

Is there a way to go around this without making a new reference image?

Of course I don't want to decline all future .NET Framework updates or repair all our computers.....
