ZTIWindowsUpdate Error

$

This is a brand new MDT 2012 install and a brand new share.  Using the Standard Server template with Windows 2008 R2 with SP1.  Everything runs great except I end with one error:

ZTI ERROR: Unhandled error returned by ZTIWindowsUpdate: Object doesn't support this property or method (438)

I actually get two of these just because I run the Windows Update Task twice.  I do not know why this is happening.

BDD.log error excerpts:

I dont see anything strange other than on the Monitoring screen it shows the wrong Start and End date/time.  It seems like the Monitor is about 7 hours ahead.  The BDD.log starts off with the wrong time aswell, but then corrects itself quickly. BDD.log excerpts:

MDT and Adobe Acrobat Standard AND Reader 11- Unattended setup please

Hello yet again gang.

Looking for unattended install of Acrobat Standard 11.x AND Reader (separately) in my Win 7 image. I've searched without an answer, so I'll give it a go here.

Just to stave off any confusion, I'd like to work on STANDARD 11x first please...

My Quiet Install Command is :  AcroStan.msi DISABLE_ARM_SERVICE_INSTALL=1

I took this off the web strictly to get started, and it does kick off the installer, but again, it's all manual clicking from here.  I'd like to disable the ARM service too though, and watch its progress as well.. Are their any other switches or settings I need to add or that you recommend?

Sony Laptop Drivers and MDT Deployment?

$

I was looking at replacing some laptops with Sony Vaio Ts.  I decided to check the Sony support site to look at the driver downloads and all the ones I checked are EXE packages and they don't extract out to infs like the ones I've seen from other manufactures like HP.

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=SVT131290X&LOC=3#/downloadTab

I also don't see any silent install commands available to install the drivers as applications.

Has anyone dealt with this before?

Are Sonys to be avoided if you are doing MDT deployment or is there some way to work around this issue?

Recent MDT 2012 upgrade - USB media is looping and not completing

$

We have recently upgraded from MDT 2010 to 2012 update 1 and migrated all of our task sequences and custom .wims over from the old server.  The network installs (6 different task sequences and using 2 custom .wims) are working correctly.  In MDT 2010, we used the Media function to create a full USB install, and I have created "new" media in MDT 2012 and matched all the settings to our MDT 2010 set up.

However, when I run the deployment from Media (copied to USB) I find that it is putting MININT and _SMSTASKSEQUENCE in not in c:\MININT, but on some other partition.  It varies, depending on how many partitions are available.  On one USB drive (500 GB Passport USB 2.0) that I have used for testing, I have 3 partitions of various sizes.  When I use this drive, the MININT and _SMSTASKSEQUENCE now end up on a non-active empty partition.  If I use another USB drive (1 TB Passport USB 3.0) with one large partition, the files are saved to that large partition and cause the Media on the drive to become corrupted.

I understand that USB hard drives are not officially supported, but is there a way to force MININT and _SMSTASKSEQUENCE onto the c:\ drive so that the task sequence can complete?

Customising "Copy standard Folders" when replicating to Linked Deployment Shares.

$

I have a setup of a development DS linked to a mirror and 6 "Child" DS's without all the testing stuff they don't need. I just use manual replication of the shares via the workbench but would like to customize what is copied when you check the "Copy standard folders" option. Specifically; my CS.ini has a fair amount of customization but is not dependent on the server name so I would like to have that included.

I realize that for all the shares I'm dealing with, I could manually copy this over, and have done in the past, but I tinker a lot (hence separating the development and deployment shares) and I fail to see why I should have to remember to do this when I have a computer to do that for me.

So, is there an XML file somewhere or something like that where I can specify the file/folder list. My searches have yet to furnish me with anything helpful.

Looking for some assistance!

I running two MDT environments (test and prod) in our business and until last week everything was working great.

Wanting to deploy Windows 8, we decided to try moving MDT 2012 U1 from Server 2008 R2 to Server 2012.

We removed the older server from the domain and renamed it to "TESTSERVER01".  The 2102 server was then given the old name.  We have done this in the past and it worked great.

We transferred all of the data and deployment shares to the new server.  I updated the SQL Express database permissions, updated the folder share names, Updated the deployment share in MDT, confirmed that the bootstrap.ini and custom settings.ini are correct, I created a new boot image in WDS.

We use the MDT database to configure the settings.

I must be missing something.  When I boot with WDS and choose the boot image, I am able to run the deployment share with MDT, but I only see the Solution Accelerators Screen and nothing else.  No CMD window, no error, nothing...

I have gone as far as creating a new deployment share to see if it was something in the old deployment.

After checking the logs multiple times, trace32 keeps flagging the following...

Unable to find rules INI file, rc = 1

ZTI ERROR - Non-zero return code by ZTIGather, rc = 8000

Command completed, return code = 8000

USMT - Moving from NT4 style domain to 2008 AD and maintaining users profile

$

Hi all

Have done heaps of digging, but still can't seem to clarify what i want todo.  Have read the USMT syntax article and doco, but no joy.

Here's our scenario.  We have currently run Novell eDir, which presents itself as a NT 4 style domain.  So computers and users can in theory have domain accounts.  We're moving to 2008 with a nice clean AD.  Using Identity Management, all our user accounts will be pre-populated in AD with the same usernames/passwords as in eDir.

I'm using MDT and USMT to create a way to deploy Windows 7 to our desktops from XP, and want to be able to capture any user profiles on the XP machine, image it, then create the user profiles back onto the Windows 7 machine but now obviously pointing to their AD account.

It seems to create the user profile OK, along with any files in their Desktop/My Docs etc.  But when i first login to the domain with that user account, it creates a new profile called USERNAME.DOMAINNAME (Obviously replace username with the user, and domainname with our new AD)

IN THEORY.  Should what i want todo be possible?  Move a users profile (All files and reg keys etc) from a Windows XP machine connected to a "NT4 style domain" to a Windows 7 machine connected to an AD, and have the user seamlessly log in, and have all their files ready to go.  Not knowing they've moved domains?

Cheers

Hi!

We added some Win 8 language packs to our DeploymentShare and everything works fine except for the tiles language when logging in. They remain in the language the image was captured until this language is removed from the system (through the control panel). So I wonder what's the best practive for mui deployments in a ZTI/LTI task sequence?! Any experiences?

MDT 2010 - USB 3.0 issue after OS Install and Inject Drivers steps

$

Hello,

I'm using MDT 2010 and I'm booting and image PCs from a USB drive. On some newer systems (eg: Latitude El530) I have issues when I use the USB 3 ports (if media is connected to USB 2 port, everuthing is fine). The systes recognizes the USB stick and I can start the Task Sequence just fine. I pass the Install OS step and Inject Drivers step, but after the first reboot, I get the prompt to insert the media to continue the deployment. This happens only if the stick is connected to the USB 3.0 ports. If I check Device Manager, I see the USB device withouth driver. The drivers are already on the USB stick...I puled them from FileRepository from an updated system with all the drivers. Is anyone else having similar issues? I see other people have USB 3 issues, but mostlly to start the deployment from it, or at partitioning...I don't have that issue. My issue starts after the OS is installed.

Any sugestion is appreciated...Thank you...

MDT 2012 Lite Touch Deployment Failed on Optiplex 7010

I encountered the following error when running Lite Touch deployment from USB media generated in MDT 2012 Update 1.  OS is Windows 7 32-bit.  After it fails I can manually launch the driver detection wizard from device manager and it will find the latest NIC driver for the Intel gigabit adapter when I point the wizard to the Deploy...\Net folder on the USB key.  Replacing all of the drivers for the 7010 did not help.

I also get this error whe deploying to an Optiplex 755 using the same Task Sequence.  I know the IE10 Blocker command works on other systems when I have deployed it to a virtual machine successfully.

Any assistance is appreciated.

MDT 2012.U1 Deleting WIM Backup on Refresh

$

I'm forcing DeploymentType=REFRESH so that I can backup the PC to be upgraded from XP to Win7 to a WIM file using (and skip USMT) when booting off of PXE boot.  I need to store the WIM on the local drive if there is free space.

Basically, while the WIM is created to D:\StateStore\ComputerName.wim (D:=OSDisk, C:=PXE Boot Drive)

The problem is, I can't find the WIM file anywhere (I've searched) after the Install OS part of the task sequence (I use f8, explorer.exe to search).  I believe there is a bug where it storing the WIM to D:\StateStore using the "auto" computer backup location.  Perhaps would be retained if it was stored D:\MiniNT\StateStore?

Why does this happen, and where should I fix?  Add a command line in the task sequence to force the move?  If so, to where should I move it so that is retained after OS install?

Capture & Deployment of Windows 8 Pro on Microsoft Surface Pro

Capture & Deployment of Windows 8 Pro on Microsoft Surface Pro

Here is what i have.  I have a MDT/WDS server set up with latest patches and all task sequences configured properly.  I have tested deploying Windows 8 via a Hyper-V virtual machine and am able to deploy the OS without issue.  I have created a basic Windows PE boot disc using online instructions which boots from the Microsoft Surface Pro correctly from USB drive to a WINPE command line.

My situation is this.  The Microsoft Surface Pro does not have an ethernet port or the ability to PXE boot on it's own.  To bypass this i have created a WINPE boot disc that does work and get's to a command prompt.  I have connected a USB hub to be able to plug in both the USB drive and a USB network card.  The WINPE image does detect the network card and I am able to get an IP Address of which i can sucessfully ping the server.

What i need to find out is how can i get my WINPE to launch the MDT gui so i can capture and deploy the OS using the task sequences i have set up.  I usually just use PXE to connect to my LiteTouch images and the wizard goes from there.  I tried copying those files to the generic WINPE disc i made but i'm guessing there is more configuration necessary to get this to work.  Without being able to use PXE i'm hoping that i can use WINPE to boot up while finding the USB nic and have it find the deployment server.  I know there is a way to create a disc that does this but not sure how to go about it.

The goal start to finish would be to craft a custom image on the Microsoft Surface Pro, capture and deploy it's image using MDT, and have the ability to capture & deploy images from this unit using a USB network card and a USB boot environment.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks - Jsalisbu
