Hello everyone,

I have the following problem that I can not solve:

I installed MDT 2012 x64.
I installed WAIK x64 Ver 6.1.7600.16385.
MDT, WAIK installed correctly detect.
In MDT, I did the "Check for Update Component".
MDT2012 not find WAIK x64 Ver 6.1.7600.16385 installato.Required.
I uninstalled WAIK x64 Ver 6.1.7600.16385.
Reinstalled WAIK x64 Ver 6.1.7600.16385.
MDT 2012 still does not detect the WAIK x64 Ver 6.1.7600.16385 installed.
I downloaded WAIK x64 Ver 6.1.7600.16385, DeploymentWorkbench from the console and it installed.
MDT 2012, WAIK x64 always reports that the Ver 6.1.7600.16385 is required.

you have any suggestions?

Thanks to all.

MDT and BitLocker

Anyone have documentation on how to set up MDT and BitLocker as an imaging solution?

I will be creating a Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit image (very vanilla), and I'd like to encrypt the whole disk (or system volume).  I'm unsure how to set it up so that it doesn't take forever to encrypt (I think Win 8.1 encrypts only the data used up instead of the whole disk right off the bat...).

CMTRACE The subsystem needed to support the image is not present.

the subsystem needed to support the image is not present.

I have a x64 bit winpe. I am trying to add a cmtrace to a winpe. Getting an error "the subsystem needed to support the image is not present", i though it was related to a wrong architecture. So i added both. Still getting the same error.<o:p></o:p>

How can i make sure one of added exe's is a true x64. And can this error be related to something esle?<o:p></o:p>

Thank you.<o:p></o:p>

MAK Licensing

Need some help with best practices.  I have several laptops that students use as loaners.  They are reimaged on a regular basis.  I currently have the task sequence to use MAK licenses instead of KMS as these will be used off campus, and this works well in my testing.  My question, will our MAK license agreement (Win7 & Office 2013) with Microsoft take a hit every time I reimage the laptop,,, or does Microsoft somehow recognize that it is the same hardware and only count one license regardless of how many times it is reimaged.  Thank you!

sysprep and capture error code?

Hi,

I tried to sysprep and capture a vm and it ran successfully but i got this error:

Error - rule priority key not set in section [settings]

error processing ini settings. no further processing.

zti error non zero return code by ztigather, rc = 1

failure: 1 running wscript.exe "\\pxe\share$\scipts\ztigather.wsf" /nolocalonly

what does those mean? is it ok to use that image?

Does execute sysprep in the capture task sequence make the image sysprepped?

Also wondering why my deployment take a really long time at seaching for updates, is it because I have alot of updates to be made so its loading everything?

Thx in advanced!

Really strange driver issue -- Surface Pro 3.

Hi Everyone,

So I've ran into a pretty strange issue here. I have a Surface Pro 3 deployment, that has been functioning 100% through WinPE boot and deploy over LAN.  Take that exact same deployment and duplicate it to a USB, and the WIFI driver never installs. I searched the logs and MDT never logs a device found or install for the WIFI device.  Point the device at the out-of-box driver where the WIFI driver is located, device installs fine.  No issue.  I'm not quite a bitter veteran of MDT yet, and this is an issue that's completely confused me.  It's almost as if the WIFI is turned off or that no WIFI exists on the unit, but sure enough it boots with driver missing.

Thanks.

Domain Join Issue

Hi All!

I am using a standard task sequence to deploy previous captured gold image and install some apps.

For some of the machines I have to use autologon and change local admin password. I've created a GPO and link it to a specific OU and within a deployment pinpoint to that OU at task sequence wizard. The problem is, after the Recover from domain step, new machine applies the GPO settings and breaks the deployment process, as it cannot be continued because of local admin pw changed.

I've tried to move Recover from domain step to the task sequence end, in this scenario everything installed correctly, but TS still cannot completed, if I try to deploy this machine again, MDT find broken installation and cannot continue.

How can I accomplish this task?

Is it possible to use LTICleanup script where I can use machine OU variable? E.g.:

if %MachineObjectOU% -contains  "OU1" then

autologon settings....

..etc.

Thanks in advance!

I am relatively new to MDT, but I can't figure this out. I have followed the instructions by Mitch Tulloch (http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Deploying-Windows-7-Part7.html) and when I boot off my CD, I still get prompted to start the process and then prompted for my credentials...

Multiple OS options in a single task sequence

Hi

I work as a contractor for a client which has three separate computer models but want their systems set up in almost the same way.

As almost all steps are alike, I tried to set up a single task sequence but with multiple "Install Operating System" steps (one for each model) and filtered them as per model (manufacturer is the same).

Unfortunately it appears that while it displays the correct label for the task, in reality it only picks the top image for the deployment and it keeps using the top image even if I disables that task or include a filter to use the top image if the manufacturer both is and isn't Fabricam to make sure the condition will never be true.

Is there a way for me to get around this? I would prefer to keep it as a single task sequence as if my client want a change in the deployment, I only need to make the change in one location while maintaining easy overview of all steps.

How can MDT show the corresponding TS catalogues automatically by manufacturer or make

There are four tasksquences,the picture blow shows

I want to make it show the corresponding catalogues based on the manufacturer or make automatically.

For example,when the pc belongs to HP,and MDT shows  all the HP TS.

When it goes to Lenovo ,shows all the lenovo ts.

So anyone can help? Thanks very much!

Drivergroups / operating systems

In MDT 2013 the folder structure for outoftheboxdrivers looks like this:

out-of-box-drivers
Windows 7 x86
dell inc.
latitude e3400
Optiplex 790
etc.

In the rules.ini there is a line at the bottom:

[Dell Inc.]
DriverGroup001=Windows 7 x86\%Make%\%Model%
DriverSelectionProfile=nothing

This works fine, when new hardware arrives i make a new folder in out-of-box-drivers and import the cabinet drivers.

I don't do anything with Task sequence regarding to drivers.

Challenge is now i musts deploy new operating systems like Windows 8.1 to tablets and laptops. Is it this simple that i add a drivergroup002 to the customsettings.ini and make the folderstructure like:
out-of-box-drivers
Windows 8.1 x64
dell inc.
latitude e3400
Optiplex 790
etc.

Windows 8.1 x86
dell inc.
latitude e3400
Optiplex 790
etc.

And this in the customsettings.ini?:

[Dell Inc.]
DriverGroup001=Windows 7 x86\%Make%\%Model%
DriverSelectionProfile=nothing
DriverGroup002=Windows 8 x64\%Make%\%Model%
DriverSelectionProfile=nothing

DriverGroup002=Windows 8 x86\%Make%\%Model%
DriverSelectionProfile=nothing

Is above the right thing to do, How does MDT knows which drivergroup (001 - 002 - 003) to use?

I have read several manners for drivers integration but the most work with task sequences together with driver groups or selection profiles but drivergroups when this works like above is a one time job because i do not have to edit the TS every time..

And must there be seperate deploymentshares for 32 bit operating systems and 64 bit operating systems? I now have 4 shares (2 captureshares and 2 deploymentshares 32 and 64 bit)

Cannot connect to Deployment Share

So I have a Windows 7 Pro, image I have created in MDT and I am trying to deploy it to a bunch (well, actually just one at this point) of Lenovo E73 SFF PCs using WDS/PXE.

I created the image working with a VM. I deployed that image to the VM by mounting the ISO. None of the issues I describe below occur in the virtualised build. In fact, that works perfectly. It's once I introduced Hardware that things get complicated.

I can successfully PXE Boot the PCs, and they get an IP address. They load Windows PE. However, I usually get the message "A Connection cannot be made to the Deployment Share" and the message suggests Network Credentials may be the issue.

I have set the credentials in the Bootstrap.ini and quadruple checked that they are correct. What is more odd is that there have been occasions where this message does not appear. Although they are perhaps only 5% of occasions.

When this message appears i will usually hit F8 and enter a net use command to re-enter my credentials. There seems to be three outcomes when I do this. 1. Error 5(?)2 Path Not Found. 2. It works and the install runs as planned. 3. It take my credentials, but MDT will only run very briefly and the PC will restart.

Furthermore, as I mention in "2." above, there are cases whereby the install will run. It installs the OS successfully but not the Applications (presumably because it cannot connect to the network). At the end of the process I am left with the desktop and the message "A connection could not be made to the Deployment Share" and this time it specifies the ID of the "PCI/Ven_10E...etc". I have verified that the drivers I have in MDT have this ID in their supported PNP IDs and imported the Win7 and 8 versions, both x86 and x64 architecture.

Just for the sake of clarity, I am updating the Deployment Share each time (I have tried completely rebuilding it) and updating my boot images in WDS.

I am relatively new to all this. So I it's clearly possible I am doing something basic wrong.

My thinking at this point is that any of the following might be an issue, but I have read so much different articles I just feel a bit overwhelmed.

Also, I also just tested an old HP 3135 I have spare, to eliminate some sort of Lenovo specific issue. On one hand there were none of the issues relating to "credentials". But after running through the task sequence I got the same message, "Cannot connect to the Deployment Share" relating to the Network Driver. I have added the network drivers for the HP to my deployment before proceeding too.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Installation error after MDT Image Deployment

I am getting an error emssage "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an execpted error."  Of course the OK justs starts the cycle again.  I have successfully deployed this image to 5 other machines but this started on the 6th.  I have tried several other machines to the same effect.  Does not seem to have affected my 32-bit images, they are deploying just fine.  I have deleted and recreated the task sequence and even recreated the image but get the same error.  I also diasabled the inject driver steps in case it was a driver issue.  The error comes after a reboot and Windows install is at the "Setup is starting services" screen.

MDT 2013 capture image and windows updates

$

Hello,

I am trying to capture an image .wim using MDT 2013 and get all windows updates and then import the .wim into SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 for later deployment. WSUS is installed as well. My question is: How can I get the Windows Updates in the MDT capture process? I have tried deploying windows updates to the "unknown computers" collection but the updates log says there are no updates available and none get installed. I have read in some forums that I might need to enable automatic approval in WSUS but I have also read that you are not supposed to configure anything in WSUS and use SCCM for configuration.

Please help.

I was wondering where does these PC information store when I query with WMI.

such as the manufacturer,perhaps it's stored in the bios,if it is so,does this mean I could change it into "Lenovo" through some kind of tools?Then query with WMI again ,it will show "Lenovo"?

I configured MDT database to deploy Win7, it takes a long time when processing rules ( CSettings ... etc. ) from MDT database. Is it normal?
