WinXP Pro SP3 Deployment via ISO Boot: Physical Address Extension (PAE) issue with IBM ThinkPad T40
I haven't found any discussion or issues with PAE so I am assuming I am the only one that just doesn't get MDT2012. I am currently using a non-server box loaded with Windows 8 Professional. It currently hosts my MDT OS's. I created my ISO file for WinXP Pro SP3 and burned it to DVD. Placed this disc into an IBM ThinkPad T40 and ran into an error that said and I quote:
"This operating system uses the Physical Address Extension feature to support systems with more than 4GB of RAM. You'll need to use a PC with a compatible processor to run the operating system.
Error code: 0xc0000260
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media like a disc or a USB device, contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.
PressEntertotryagain
Press F8 for Startup Settings"
Now right away flags started going off in my head as I saw a Windows 8 symbol sitting center of the screen during its loading process. Then the error occurred. It reminded me of similar issue at work where a Vista ISO was created off of a Windows 7 environment. When you booted the ISO the loading screen took the form of Windows 7 and the image failed. I suggested using the Vista version off the boot load and sure enough the image worked just fine.
So the question is do I need to create my ISO from a WinXP Pro environment to avoid the PAE issue or is there a simpler method to tell the boot load to ignore the PAE issue on a Windows 8 Environment?
