Hyper-V VM cannot connect to the update service.

$

I ran Updates on my 1809 VM and got to 1909. I turned off the firewall and I eventually got a Feature Update to 1909.

However, after running Updates again, rather than saying I'm up to date, it tells me it could not connect to the update service, please check your network connection.

I had this on a physical machine as well. The only solution I found for that was to move that pc to a workgroup and use a MIFI and I got more updates for 1909 until it said I was up to date.

I cannot think of what to do with my VM's when they say they cannot connect to the update service when they just did, to get from 1809 to 1909.

Any suggestions on what I can do? My VM's are not on our domain.

I'm leery of joining my VM to the Domain and moving it to a policy-free group when being on the workgroup should avoid any policy.

I’m am trying to run an optional script during the MDT procedure. In this case I have certain PCs that I have to put in an AD group, and for those PCs I would like to have like a checkbox that I could check to run the PowerShell script that copies the PC to this group. Is there any way to do this?

MDT Wizard - Skip unwanted deployment pages

Guys, I'm trying to skip unwanted deployment pages in my MDT Wizard. It seems the very first screen works, but once I click NEXT, the entire list of pages are showing and it makes me walk through each one.

I minimized my Bootstrap.ini and CustomSettings.ini

I only want to show the following pages;

 1. Task Sequence Page
 2. Computer Details Page
 3. Local and Time Page
 4. Ready Page

But for some reason after I click the Task Sequence, I receive this list. Then I have to go to each page without the ability to skip.

 1. Welcome Page
 2. Network Credentials Page
 3. Task Sequence Page
 4. Computer Details Page
 5. Mover data and settings Page
 6. User Data (Restore) Page
 7. Local and Time Page
 8. Capture image Page
 9. Ready Page

Customsettings.ini and Bootstrap.ini

MDT : "is preparing" install step very long for Domain deployment

Hello

When configuring a Domain joining in MDT customsettings.ini, this "preparing" step takes16 minutes. Without any error, and at the end of the install, the Domain joining is effective.

With the same install settings, when configuring a Workgroup joining, this step takes 2 minutes.

Any idea about this difference ? Thank you

Looking for help with the Resume TS Icon.

I built an 1809 image from scratch and I used the Build and Capture TS with a suspend.

I've since upgraded my VM to 1909 and the Resume TS doesn't do anything. What do I need to do to get my Resume to
Capture my VM that is now 1909 when the Resume was created under 1809?

This can't be a huge roadblock for me.

Having trouble running the Resume Task Sequence from the desktop.

I created a base VM for someone to remote into and add software. I added a pause to the TS so this could be done.

Now they have finished and I'm in the VM, but clicking on Resume does nothing. I still have a _SMSTaskSequence folder and the MININT folder on C: but nothing takes off from the Resume shortcut.

I need to get this captured and I'm relying on the Resume TS to kick off as it should.
Any ideas?

If anything, for now, what can I run manually to get the TS to continue on to do a Capture?

Wrong drive letter in SMSTSLOCALDATADRIVE

Good day!

Today i have encountered strange error while deploying win10x64 1909 in legacy mode(UEFI works fine) with wds(10.0.17763.1)+mdt(6.3.8456.1000) running on server 2019. PC: HP 260 g3 dm with SSD drive.

Loading the Environment Variables from "X:\Deploy\Tools\X64\variables.dat"
C:\_SMSTaskSequence does not exist
...
Could not find CCM install folder. Don't use ccmerrors.dll
...
Task sequence execution failed with error code 80004005

After some digging in logs i've found that variable SMSTSLOCALDATADRIVE has wrong disk letter:

<var name="SMSTSLOCALDATADRIVE"><![CDATA[C:]]></var> but actual system disk was E:

I assume that this is a problem in GetOSTargetDriveLetterEx function in ZTIUtility.vbs or in some other script.

Logs can be found here: https://yadi.sk/d/y4-qA-OTW68ekQ

Thx in advance for help.

Where to make settings for windows deployment toolkit customization's

$

I have windows deployment toolkit configured on a member server on my test network. I have been trying to make custom deployment configurations on a target computer. The custom configurations are not working.

This is what I think the problem is. I'm making the configuration in the wrong part of WDT or I'm not making the commands correctly.

From what I understand, there are 4 places that you can configure WDT customization's.

1. Rules(the rules and the customsettings.ini are the same thing)

2.Edit.bootstrap.ini

3.Edit Unattended .xml file(the answer file and the edit unattended.xml file are the same thing)

4. Task Sequence

How do you know which place you should make the WDT deployment customization configurations? I have been trying to set the time zone for the target computer to boot to eastern standard time, but after the deployment, the time zone is always set to pacific time. In what WDT section would I make that configuration?

Thank you.

I'm trying to create a bootable media that will do a Lite Touch Installation of Windows 10 Education (20.04).

I'm following these (http://https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/mdt/lite-touch-installation-guide) instructions which are for using MDT to install Windows 8.1.

Everything is working fine until Step 4-2 (deploying Windows to the reference computer).
Once it has finished installing the operating system, it says

and the relevant lines in the BDD.log are:

Two issues with upgrading to 2004 through Windows Updates.

$

I have pc's built on 1809 and my Server group finally updated their Allow Feature Updates OU, which obviously lets us get to 2004. That's all great, but two things are going on and I have a war between my Security group and Server group.

For one, when you get to 2004, you cannot get updates FOR 2004 as it says a connection could not be made to the update server. (I'm thinking that is Security group).

At the same time, with 2004, moving a pc from one OU to any other, then running gpupdate/ force, I get:

The processing of Group Policy failed because of a lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. I'm not sure if this is Security or Server or what. So I can't move my pc's around and apply GPO's for that OU to the computer. The user policy gets applied. I'm not sure who to terrorize.
Does anyone have an idea of what's going on with these two issues?
Thanks

Error with Updates after upgrading to 2004.

I can get to 2004 Win 10. Once there, and after a reboot, I check for updates for 2004.

As soon as I do, I get a message that some update files aren't signed correctly (0x800b0109)

Found a few 'solutions' online about using dism to run a scanhealth then restorehealth, same thing.
Another was to delete the Update entry in the registry and restart BITS and Update service, same thing.
Lastly, was running the Update Troubleshooter and that didn't find anything wrong.

Is there a permanent fix for getting this error when running Updates to get updates for 2004?

Question about adding a VM to a domain and consequences...

My AD group finally made an OU where I can move up to 2004. MY VM's are only getting to 1909.

If I join my VM to our domain, in the correct OU, upgrade to 2004 and then remove it again, are there any problems that can
come up from doing so? I know you cannot sysprep a domain pc but just wondering if there would be any unforeseen issues
temporarily putting my VM's on the domain.

My AutoLogon for VM's do not now since upgrading the OS.

I upgraded one of my VM's from 1809 to 2004 by adding the VM to our domain to get GPO which allowed the upgrade.

I was able to resume the TS via CMD wscript "c"\minimt\scripts\LTISuspend.wsf" /resume

Once done, I applied the checkpoint back, but now when I bring up the VM again, I have to sign on as admin. It doesn't do the
autologon anymore. And I have to use the CMD to resume the TS because the resume shortcut doesn't work anymore.

I'm really needing some guidance on how this all is supposed to theoretically work with a suspend if you upgrade the OS.

UEFI Partition scheme in TS for UEFI devices

Hi ,

I am testing few deployments for UEFI devices with windows 8 .

I have getting some issues and got confused if I see the partitions listed in WinPE (run Diskpart, selected the Disk 0, List Partitions) when TS deployment got failed.

Pls. find the image attached.

My TS has partition scheme as UEFI, MSR and Primary (3 partitions) for target systems but when TS failed and checked the disk partition , I am getting like 6 partitions in total on the Disk 0. Does it mean that MDT has created default partitions as well as partitions defined through TS?

My understanding is if device is UEFI and partitions are been defined in TS , MDT should provision the customized disk partitions based on the TS .

Pls. correct me if my understanding is wrong...Can anyone explain me what could be wrong with the TS that MDT has 6 partitions?

In BDD Logs i see...pls. check the image below .

Regards,

I'm getting one extra reboot on my devices during State Restore.

Once my pc hits Recover From Domain (2004), the pc reboots just once and then continues on.

It doesn't seem to disrupt anything, I've not seen that before. I have seen the 4 reboots if the name is wrong in AD, but not this.

Any idea what causes one reboot?

Unable to boot to lite touch media, Status: 0xc0000017, There isn't enough memory available to create a ramdisk device

I am using the new ADK win 10 v2004 and also installed the new Win PE for version 2004.

I have a new deployment share with two tasks sequences. One is a standard task sequence that installs an Win 10 .wim OS and the other is an out-of-the-box Client replace. I was able to boot to the lite touch media file using my Hyper-V VM setup for the past few days and was able to run the OS install task sequence. Today, I added the Client replace task sequence and added Out of Box drivers for at least 15 PC models. Once I updated the media file, it is throwing this error.

I am only generating a 64bit litetouch file. The scratch disk is set to 128. I tried bumping it to 256 but it did not help. My VM was set to 4 GB RAM. I tried increasing it to 8GB but getting same result.

My selection profile is set to All drivers and packages and I haveInclude only drivers of the following types: network and mass storage drivers checked.

How can I troubleshoot this issue further?

ZTIWindowsUpdate Skipping all updates on Windows 10 build 2004

When running Windows Update step in a task sequence(ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf) on a Windows 10 2004 build, updates are found, but all of them are being skipped. This is not the case with a 1909 based OS. This seems to be linked to InstallationBehavior.CanRequestUserInput, this is setting bInstall to False for every update.
