Volume license activation (KMS infrastructure) cannot activate Windows 7 Pro. on Optiplex 3010, 7010, 9010 ?

My enterprise has perchased many licenses of Windows 7 Pro.  including KMS activation license key.  And I have deployed the KMS activation infrastructure in my enterprise network.

Recently, we bought a set of Opliplex 3010 , 7010 & 9010 PCs, nearly 100 PCs. All of them are N-series without pre-installed Windows 7 by Dell factory.

I tried deploy OS and many enterprise APPs to these PCs through network , using MDT.

The OS image I used in MDT is Window 7 Pro Volume License Edition which was from Microsoft volume license site. But the KMS method cannot activate Windows 7 Pro. on Optiplex 3010, 7010, 9010 .

After deployment, the PCs telled that the the volume license key is invalid, MAK is required. Windows cannot be activated.

But the issue has never come out on any other computers of our enterprise before.

I have been searching for the solution on internet, but get nothing. And some one said that the BIOS somewhere is locked or modified by Dell to preventprated operating system. But the OS and KMS we are using is lawful.

Can any one tell me how to activate our volume licensed Windows 7 Pro. by the KMS infrastructure in my enterprse? Thanks!

Automatic Task Sequence Selection from USB Drive?

Hey Guys,

This is an odd question, and I'm a little doubtful that it's possible, but what the heck, maybe someone knows a way...

I "need" to be able to store separate Task Sequences on different thumb drives. Then when I boot into a LightTouch DVD, have it automatically check for attached USB devices for a Task List, and then, having found one, automatically select and use it so that the tech has nothing to do but to make sure that they have the USB drive plugged in, and boot from the DVD.

The goal is to be able to use a single basic image to perform automated installations of different configurations

Capture & Deployment of Windows 8 Pro on Microsoft Surface Pro

Here is what i have.  I have a MDT/WDS server set up with latest patches and all task sequences configured properly.  I have tested deploying Windows 8 via a Hyper-V virtual machine and am able to deploy the OS without issue.  I have created a basic Windows PE boot disc using online instructions which boots from the Microsoft Surface Pro correctly from USB drive to a WINPE command line.

My situation is this.  The Microsoft Surface Pro does not have an ethernet port or the ability to PXE boot on it's own.  To bypass this i have created a WINPE boot disc that does work and get's to a command prompt.  I have connected a USB hub to be able to plug in both the USB drive and a USB network card.  The WINPE image does detect the network card and I am able to get an IP Address of which i can sucessfully ping the server.

What i need to find out is how can i get my WINPE to launch the MDT gui so i can capture and deploy the OS using the task sequences i have set up.  I usually just use PXE to connect to my LiteTouch images and the wizard goes from there.  I tried copying those files to the generic WINPE disc i made but i'm guessing there is more configuration necessary to get this to work.  Without being able to use PXE i'm hoping that i can use WINPE to boot up while finding the USB nic and have it find the deployment server.  I know there is a way to create a disc that does this but not sure how to go about it.

The goal start to finish would be to craft a custom image on the Microsoft Surface Pro, capture and deploy it's image using MDT, and have the ability to capture & deploy images from this unit using a USB network card and a USB boot environment.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks - Jsalisbu

Hi

I installed  WIK for Windows 7 SP1 and MST 2012 on Windows server 2008 R2.

I configured WDS, AD and DHCP. Added  Windows 7 SP1 Build 6.1.7601.17514 as Operating system and 96 windows 7 updates under package.

when I update deployment share I get following error

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool

Injected package Package_for_KB2647753 neutral amd64 6.1.4.0 KB2647753

Previously I used RT7 Lite to inject all 96 updates to same windows 7 build. If I use this image to deploy windows 7 in a workstation, I can see only 35 updates are added to the windows 7 installation.

can some one suggest a solution

Run a 'WINS' script at Windows PE startup

Hello...wondering how to insert a startup script into my Windows PE that defines our 2 WINS servers? I know this should be completed from the DHCP server (ideal world), but currently our network is getting an over-haul and the only way it seems to get MDT working with the SQL DB is to define the WINS server?!?

So, currently to deploy a "New Computer" using my WinPE I boot up hit F8 and define the WINS server using a 'NETSH' command. The IP & DNS info is obtained as we have a DHCP reservation set using the MAC address.

I am hoping to take over the DHCP scopes for our LABS this summer and correct the issues.

Free MDT Monitoring Portal

Hi Guys,

I'm working on an Poshboard (http://www.poshboard.com) widget to monitor MDT Zero Touch Deployments with SCCM for my customer. I was wondering if any of you guys would be interested in a generic widget to monitor built in MDT Templates ?

PoshBoard uses Powershell Scripts to build the widgets, I would release the Powershell script source for free of course.

so far it looks like this (it's a work in progress so feel free to suggest enhancements and ideas :))

oh and Yes I know, the button below the datepicker does not have text on it :)

the widget gets data from the SCCM Status messages and will only display key tasks / phases. This screenshot is also customized with external non SCCM data so please don't ask what means RC Status or App Mapping, i'm not allowed to give details.

I might be able to add LTI support pretty easily since MDT 2012 gives this awesome powershell provider, but so far my widget only supports ZTI with SCCM 2007

Let me know what you think :)

How to stop a Service (delayed start) once Windows starts up.

Once Windows starts up, I want to stop the Windows Update service to prevent some unexpectedrestart because update packages will be installed automatically and lead to some forced reboot at unattended OS deployment. The unexpectedrestart of Windows Update may cause the following Task Sequence of application installing interrupted.

But Windows Update is a "delayed start" Service, "net.exe stop wuauserv" may not work fine once Windows starts up. Because several times, I saw that the Windows Update service are still running after the Task Sequnce - net.exe stop wuauserv.

How to completely stop the Windows Update service once Windows stars up?

Linked Deployment Shares

Hi all,

I am currently setting up MDT deployment shares in many locations around the world.  The issue i have is that it is time consuming for myself and my team to get these all updated with all wim files, drivers and applications etc.

What i would like to know is what would be best practice in setting up the shares as linked deployment shares. All linked into a central share, daisy chained with each other or is there other preferred configurations?

Your help is always appreciated.

MDT 2012 and Branch Office Deployment

Hi All,,

We have installed MDT 2012 on our head office. We now can deploy computers in our head office.

We have also 5 branch offices. Each branch offices has an DC and file Server.

How can we best deploy MDT 2012 in the branch office?

Do i need MDT 2012 Server at each location or MDT Link Share and WDS is enough?

Also each Branch Office have multiple VLAN for User areas and different server VLAN. So how do i set the Bootstrap ini DGW?

EX:

    Branch1 got 3 VLAN  user /computers

     VLAN1: 10.1.192.x  DGW is 10.1.192.254.

     VLAN2: 10.1.193.x  DGW is 10.1.193.254.

     VLAN3: 10.1.194.x  DGW is 10.1.194.254.

     Server VLAN: 10.1.189.x

Branch2 got  2 VLAN for user /computers

     VLAN1: 10.1.12.x  DGW is 10.1.12.254.

     VLAN2: 10.1.13.x  DGW is 10.1.13.254.

      Which DGW IP actually required?

HP Server Builds smartstart v MDT

Has anyone any advice on building HP servers using MDT. The current way we build servers is using the smartstart CD from HP. I wanted a more automated way to install server roles and applications like SQL and SCCM 2012. I've played around with Johan's Hydration kit and was wondering if we could use this in our production environment. We have a mixture of HP blades and conventional server. Also We build our Gen8 servers withIntelligent Provisioning.

Thanks In Advance

Why are you unmarking accepted answers, posting similar responses with the same questions others asked, and then immediately marking your post as the "answer"?  This seems an abuse of moderator privs. =/
