MDT2012 - Windows 2012 Build / Update/ Capture failing

$

I am attempting to run a build, run windows updates, and capture image task sequence in MDT 2012 Update 1 with Windows 2012 being the deployed OS.  I am using the same task sequence for Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 just fine.

For Windows 2012, it installs the .wim starts the custom tasks, installs some windows updates and then reboots.  However, when it reboots it comes back to a screen that says "Choose an option: Continue, Troubleshoot, Turn off your PC" and pressing continue will just reboot to the same screen.  Please see screenshot.

Any ideas?

MDT 2012 Partitioning going worng

Hello,

I've read through a couple of the threads that already exist concerning the problem mentioned in the title, but they all seem different from what I'm facing.

I'm trying to install Windows Server 2008 R2 via LiteTouch PXE deployment on a VMware VM with two virtual disks. This will later be a DC with the NTDS etc. on the second disk.

During Preinstall, I create two Format and Partition Tasks, as I need to have two seperate Disks, where Disk 0 is C: and Disk 1 is D:.

If I leave the standard Task Sequence Format and Partition Tasks, I end up having Disk 0 as C: and Disk 1 as E: and offline.

If I replace the standard Format and Partition Tasks with a custom command line using DiskPart and a config file, Disk 0 is C: and Disk 1 is D: and both are online (checked during installation with F8 and Diskpart) but either the bootmgr ist not found when the first reboot comes along, or, if I add the line 'cmd /c "bcdboot C:\Windows"' after the Windows Install Step, the bootmgr is found but then SMS Task Sequencer can't be found once Windows has rebooted and the TS should continue with application installation. Either way, the deployment doesn't finish.

My DiskPart config looks like this:

Select Disk 0
Clean
Create Partition Primary Size=500
Format Quick FS=NTFS Label="BDEDrive"
Active
Create Partition Primary
Format Quick FS=NTFS Label="OSDisk"
Active
Assign Letter C

Select Disk 1
Clean
Create Partition Primary
Format Quick FS=NTFS Label="Data"
Active
Assign Letter D

I can see that after rebooting into Windows, the disks have changed - OSDisk is still C:, but Data is unassigned and offline while BDEDrive has D: assigned to it :-(

What can I do to have the letters assigned the way I need them and still have the deployment run through correctly?

Cheers,

Fred

OK, I am trying to get my Task sequence running with WINPE user state capture, but I am having problems with USMT4/5... Tast sequence without user state backup is OK, but with user state backup it terminates with error code rc = 11. See below, ZTIUserState.log file..

I was expecting the USMT parameters to exclude hardlink parameters when running from network, is this assumption correct?

I have an old deployment share from MDT2010 that is not upgraded and still running, and the USMT parameters are the same, except /targetWindows7 parameter.. I have tried using USMT5 and USMT4, with no success.. Please guide me in the right direction, anyone!

Specify Office Serial key during TS

Hi.

Im looking for a way to specify an Office 2010 key code during the deployment TS

Reading up i can use OSPP.vbs to install and activate a key - but can i specify this key during deployment in winPE

Similar to specifying the Windows key.

Maybe store it in the customsettings.ini file?

Thanks,

Mike.

Application not installing via MDT deployment

I am trying to install Adobe through MDT Application install, but it does not seem to be running.  The install flashes and does not do anything.

I am using the below Windows command script:

taskkill /F /IM outlook.exe
msiexec.exe /i "\\p02apixxx01\deploymentshare$\Applications\AdobeReaderX\AdbeRdr1010_en_US.msi" PATCH="\\p02apixxx01\deploymentshare$\Applications\AdobeReaderX\AdbeRdrUpd1011.msp" Transforms="\\p02apixxx01\deploymentshare$\Applications\AdobeReaderX\AdbeRdr1010_en_US.mst" /qb! /L*v "C:\temp\adberdr.log"

This is a standard application install.  I have the working directory set to .\Applications\Adobe Reader X.  I have the quiet install command set to the command file install_ReaderX.cmd.

DISM Error:5 error when building boot ISO with WADK 8 and MDT 2012 sp1

Hi

Environment: Windows server 2008 R2(VM), 2GB RAM, WADK 8, MDT 2012 SP1

When I try to build a boot ISO using either MDT or ImageX, I receive an error when DISM is used to add packages.

Processing 1 of 1 - Adding package WinPE-HTA-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.2.9200.16384
An error occurred - WinPE-HTA-Package Error: 0x80070005

Error: 5

Access is denied.

This repeats for all WINPE packages being added by DISM.

I have rebuilt the server and reinstalled but the same affect. I have tried running it as admin, editing rights and making the name of the packages lower case but cannot seem to get anywhere. Any help would be great.

MDT 2010 / WinPE Drivers for Marvell Yukon 88E8057

Hello,

I have about a dozen Sony Vaios that use the Marvell Yukon 88E8057 controller for their NIC. I've downloaded the drivers (both 64-bit and 32-bit) from Marvell and imported them into my Out of Box Drivers in my production build, and then updated the Deployment Share, however, everytime I boot into WinPE to do the deployment I get "The following network device did not have a driver installed" and then a device ID, which I've confirmed is in the INF files for the drivers I'm importing. Am I missing a step here or something?

Thanks a lot for your help,

-Jeff

Drivers not loading in windows Vista, MDT 2012 update 1

Upgraded to MDT 2012 update 1 (from MDT 2012)

Upgraded to WADK (used waik before)

Windows Vista task sequences push my base image down and go through setup process. Once booted into Vista, task sequence stops due to no network driver (an other drivers) installed.

Checked C:\drivers. all drivers for this system are there and manually installing them from here works.

Recreated My Vista custom wim. Imported it. Created new task sequence. add only driver group. push down. Same issue.

Edited custom wim to add c:\drivers to DevicePath to registry. Same issue.

unattend file also has path \Drivers

Windows 7/8 task sequences are working fine

For some reason imaging with MDT 2012 update 1 drivers are not being found by Vista.

MDT Deployment error - custom image

Hello,

I have a custom Windows Enterprise Image which I deploy out to a number of makes/models of PC/laptop.

It works on all of our machines, Dell/Lenovo/HP except for the HP DC7900.

Once the machine has gone through installing Windows I get the error message below.

"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed.  To install Windows, click OK to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."

The log below is from C:\Windows\Panther\unattendgc\setuperr.log

I have looked up the original error and it was suggested that I change HKLM\SYSTEM\SETUP\STATUS\childcompletion value from 1 to 3.

This allowed the machine to boot, all parts of task sequence completed apart from joining our domain - obviously that would not be a suitable work around when we will be upgrading a number of machines.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Andy

Office 2007 w/ SP3 & Windows 7 Pro

When I add Office 2007 with SP3 and all the updates my image does not seem to sysprep the machine.  I found this out by doing the following:

Installing the OS and updates - sysprep and capture - no problems

Installing Some Apps - sysprep and capture - no problems

Installing the rest of our domain apps and making the default profile as it should be - sysprep and capture - no problems

Add Office 2007 w/ SP3 and all of the updates - I choose the sysprep and capture sequence it uploads to the server and finishes(0 problems 0 warnings), I then deploy it to a new VM and it goes right to the ctrl-alt-delete screen and the administrator account is disabled.  I did nothing major between all of the images so I am very confused as to why its happening with Office.

Any help would be grateful.

OSD Results (applications tab) filled with Unknown packages

Environment is ConfigMgr 2007 R3. I've done the MDT 2012 integration and am using an MDT UDI task sequence to deploy Windows 7 SP1 x64. There is nothing wrong with the actual deployment, just a cosmetic issue with the Applications tab of the OSD Results screen.

I'm not sure if it is related, but the only error I found in my task sequence was with the 'Parse Base Variable' step of the 'OSD Results and Branding' phase. Here is an extract from smsts.log:

This seems to indicate that the object was never set, but after looking at the code it does appear to be set. This error can be matched up with the GetBaseVariableName function in OSD_BaseVariables.vbs.

'from main'
Dim oTSE

'from SetObjects function'
SET oTSE = CreateObject("Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment")

'from GetBaseVariableName function'
oTSE( TsSaveVarName ) = TsBaseValue
oTSE( TsAppsVarName ) = TsAppsBaseValue
If (Err.Number <> 0) Then
	GetBaseVariableName = false
	wscript.echo " --| Error: [" & Err.Number & "]"
	wscript.echo " --| Description: [" & Err.Description & "]"
End If

Anyone have any idea why this would be happening? The other option is to turn the application tab off in the OSD Results screen, but I do not see a way to do that.

Thanks!

MDT 2012 Capture Win7 Machine Fails Part Way through WIM Creation

$

My sysprep/capture has worked for months to capture a Win7SP1 Pro reference computer that's configured exactly as I want to deploy to new machines.  After adding Oracle's VirtualBox in order to run an XP-only program (that works just fine in my Win7 VM), I get the dreaded RC=2 80004005 error.  The Create WIM task runs for about 45 minutes with the WIM showing up in the Captures folder and growing just fine (by hitting refresh, I can see the file size increase).  However, the Capture then fails and the WIM is deleted in the server's Captures folder.  In looking at the ZTIBackup.log (last part of file included below), I see that it's failing on the vdi created by VirtualBox.  And FWIW, I'm able to see the file that's causing the error by opening a command prompt and doing a "dir" command within the Solutions Accelerator, so I don't think it's a rights or access denied issue directly.

Any ideas?  Thanks!

MDT 2012 drivergroup drivers copied but not loading during deployment

$

Upgraded from MDT 2010. My old imported task sequences are working great. I created a new base image with 2012, loaded it into my production share, created a task sequence with Drivergroup001 but for some reason it will not load the drivers on any machine. I looked at the log file and the drivergroup001 is being set, PnPEnum.exe is executed and MDT is copying the correct drivers to c:\drivers (I can see them on the computer), but it is not loading them into the OS. I seems to be missing PnP/ injection step.

DriverGroup001 Task Sequence Variable is set in the preinstall phase

Since I am using drivergroups I set inject drivers to nothing in preinstall phase

Post install phase has the default inject driver task: cscript.exe "%SCRIPTROOT%\ZTIdrivers.wsf"

In the unattend.xml I have the driver path set to:

<settings pass="offlineServicing">

        <component name="Microsoft-Windows-PnpCustomizationsNonWinPE" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
            <DriverPaths>
                <PathAndCredentials wcm:keyValue="1" wcm:action="add">
                    <Path>\Drivers</Path>
                </PathAndCredentials>
            </DriverPaths>
        </component>

</settings>

Any ideas why drivers will not load?

MDT 2012 + WinPE 4.0 + VMWare ESXi - Hangs "Windows is loading files" booting into PE

$

I'm trying out using MDT 2012 and WinPE 4.0, upgrading things. I've recreated things following templates in MDT 2012. I'm also using ADK and WinPE 4.0.

Issue I'm seeing is upon restarting into WinPE I see the screen showing Windows is Loading Files and the progress bar. I see the first one load through and then the second slower one load through. Once progress bar fills, it just does nothing and I'm left looking at a complete progress bar.

I was trying obviously first using VMWare ESX 5.0 with no success, subsequently tried a couple of physical machines and those had no problems. I still want to get working on ESX since that will help speed up development and testing of the rest of the stuff I need to upgrade. Tried a variety of SCSI controllers within ESX vms. I tried VMWare Workstation 9 with the mixed results as with the LSI Logic Parallel SCSI controller had success but not the others.

I of course at first tried making sure drivers were added with no change, although that still could be an issue with drivers I found to put in being incorrect.

More interestingly though is that I can of course install Windows 8 from install media just fine on these hardware, as well as if I create an ISO from the deployment share and boot to that it works just fine, so it seems to just be an issue when booting to WinPE on disk.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

SCCM 2012 Using Custom Settings.ini For Deploying Packages based on Computer Name during OSD

I have figured out how to customize the Customsettings.ini file to deploy packages based on PC model. But we also have packages here that need to be deployed by PC name. For example on classroom we have here is named NYC-LAB-W01. The PCs in this room need a printer package installed based on the Room Location.

I tried to have my Customsettings.ini file setup this way

But this doesn't seem to work.

Any help is truly appreciated.

Hello.

In my tasksequence I'm running a powershell script in order to add new computers to a domain through an RODC. This will produce the following warning on the MDT Deployment Summary:

Is there any way of supressing this specific warning? I generally don't want the end user seeing it.

In advance, Thanks

MDT 2012 Software Update Management

Hello All,

I am upgrading from MDT 2010-->2012 and I am trying to get a handle on software updates.  I work for a University and we use MDT for imaging new machines, and Zenworks to push out Applications.  When we are going through the imaging process and the users are finally able to login, they have to wait a long time to download updates from WSUS and have them applied.  I am wondering if there is a way I can speed this up with MDT, and have the Windows Updates Injected during the installation process?

Any help is appreciated!

MDT and WDS

Hi,

We have sucessfully got a win7 box which acts as our MDT server. This is fine but we now want to add the multicasting option as were about to refresh 80 odd pc's.

My question is that can we leave this box as is and add either a win2008 server with WDS role and do some pointing to get this working or can we get away with RIS on a 2003 box ( preferred if poss ) or is it better just to reload WDT onto a win2008 box ( my least preferred option tbh in our situtation )

WOuld really apprieciate any help here.

Thanks.
