I have a newly imaged machine (using MDT) that fails to boot all the way through. As soon as the Windows plash screen appears I see:

"Windows failed to start.

File: ifp63x64.sys

Status: 0xc0000098"

I was going to get the logs fromC:\MININT\SMSOSD\OSDLOGS but not sure how I can get to the logs?

MDT 2012 Capture and deploying SOE with multiple partitions

HI All,

MY SOE got C: / D: and System Partition. This PC in TEST work group and all the software and windows updates are installed. So give me the high level steps to follow. i need to push this new SOE for Laptops and Desktop. Also need current user data (USMT) backup and restore.

So far i have tried following

 1. Create a Task for Sysprep and Capture - Sysprep failed ( System drive open pop up comes  and failed)

 2. Disable the sysprep and run manually.

 3. Capture the PC

 4. Create new OS deployment Task

 5. Failed when doing USMT ?

No more connections can be made to this remote computer.

I cannot use my deployment toolkit because I cannot log into the share.

Whenever I attempt to log into the Deployment Toolkit share, I get this error:

* Invalid credentials: No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept.

I had been getting this error with the last version of the Deployment Toolkit, and the error persisted upon upgrading to the latest version.  In the past, I was able to work around this problem because I created a local user account that I used to log into the share.  The issue appears to be with using domain accounts.  By using a local user account, I was able to bypass the domain user authentication that appears to be the problem.    However, that server was recently made into a backup domain controller (since it was sitting idle 99.99% of the time), and I can no longer use local accounts.

Does anyone have a clue of how to fix this?

Stuck at X:\ Deploy (SSD Drive on new HP Spectre)

Hello

We have added the all the drivers to Out of Box drivers node in MDT 2010 , the drivers for HP spectre were downloaded from HP softpaq and deployment share was updated and then USB media created.

The problem now is the USB media boots and gets stuck at x:\deploy ? I am not sure where we are going wrong , is there specific version of WINPE that supports SSD ? the current version is WINPE 3.0.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank You

MDT 2012 Deployment by USB Flash Drive Problems

$

To test MDT, I'm trying to deploy Windows 7 Enterprise trial to a new ASUS x44H laptop via USB key and not use the network for anything until it needs to join the domain.  I have copied the media files (about 4 gigs of data including Windows 7 -64bit WIM, drivers, applications etc. ) to a bootable USB key and booted the computer and have seen problem after problem.

It boots fine from the key, but the first issue I see is that it that a prompt pops up asking for a deployment share by UNC path.  Why is it not looking at the USB key?.

I entered the path to the sever share and clicked next since it was defaulting to "X:\Deployment" and it would not continue if left as is.

It then needed domain credentials to the network share.  Again why does it want to look for the network at this point?  It should not need any credentials until Windows is deployed and it is joining the domain and I had domain credentials specified already in customsettings.ini.

How can I point it back to the USB key so it stops trying to use the network? I don't think the NIC driver is going to work until Windows is installed with the NIC drivers, because I see no lights flashing on the NIC port from just the WINPE boot from USB.

I entered the credentials anyway just to get past the screen.

Minor issue is that it renamed the PC as expected, but still showed a confirmation prompt instead doing it silently and moving on.

The next thing is that it said it needed a reboot and I allowed it and it booted back into the old Windows 8 Consumer Preview operating system instead of formatting the drive and starting the install. I can't see any error messages or log of what happened.

If I force it to boot back into the USB key and start over it says there is a deployment already in progress in an unexpected state.

Does anyone have any ideas what would cause these issues?

I would like to make a deployment that runs with minimal prompts and using the USB as it's source for all the files it needs and not attempt to reach the network for anything until after Windows is installed along with all the drivers.

The powershell cmdlet Enable-MDTMonitorService does what it says on the tin it enables the service.

But Is there anyway to enable monitoring within a certain deployment share using Powershell?

delpoyment getting stuck at X:\Deploy

I can boot into winpe fine but after clicking to run the deployment it goes to a screen saying Welcome to the Windows Deployment Wizard!  Before you can continue, it will need to know the path of a Deployment Share. Deployment share: (format:"\\server\share" or \\server.  In the deployment share it justs says X:\deploy.  This happens when I'm trying to deploy from a USB drive.  This was working fine before and I haven't been able to fix it. Any ideas?

Another issue I'm having is with BIOS version of HP ad Dell computers.  I have to revert back to older BIOS versions to PXE boot due to the gigabit switch we have.  Anyone else have this issue?

Windows 7 Build and Implementation of .Net Framework 4.5

We build our system images using MDT and have noticed that over time the building and patching process are both getting unreasonably long. We know this is directly related to the amount of time it takes to update .Net Framwork 4.0. Over time the number of patches for .Net Framework 4.0 seem to get more numerous and each one can take several minutes to install. The end result is that patching often takes over 45 minutes and is the longest part of the build process.

In reading the documentation on .Net Framework 4.5 it appears that I can skip a lot of the 4.0 updates, but when I went looking for an MSU file for .Net Framework 4.5, I cannot find one for Windows 7.

Questions:

  1. Will .Net Framwork 4.5 help alleviate the number of updates that get installed?
  2. Is there a better way to shorten my MDT build process then the direction I am currently headed in?
  3. Is there an MSU file that will work with MDT for .Net 4.5?

What is the exact procedure to create WinRE Image using MDT 2012 and WAIK

Ready to give up on MDT

Using MDT 2010 update 1. Have got a useful thick image that's a couple of months old. Have tried dozens of times since then to update the image with Windows updates, changes to default profile, etc. Have been on this forum several times but haven't got any definitive answers. I'm about ready to switch the BIOS back to ATA and use Ghost. MDT is giving me hives.

I'd like to try one more thing: Drivers. My strategy so far with our Dell 790s has been to download from the Dell site every driver under the sun and add it to the Out-of-Box Drivers store, because it seems next to impossible to figure out exactly which drivers are needed. We've now got a shipment of brand-new Dell 7010s that my company is going to deploy with W7 to replace XP. I imaged one with the thick image I created for the previous Dell model  - optiplex 790. Once deployed, Device Manager on the 7010 showed a couple of unknown drivers.

Again, I just downloaded whatever drivers seemed like the right ones from the Dell site (they don't send them on disk anymore). After downloaded a couple of new drivers and importing them there seems to have been added around 100 more entries to the store - no idea  how. But anyway after successfully updating and capturing the new 7010 image, I found that after deploying that image to a new PC I had no desktop at all, just the blue Windows background. I''m guessing it's a driver problem

MY QUESTION IS: How do you know exactly which drivers to import to your store? I've done a DriverQuery on a machine directly out of the box and found the vast number of entries to be baffling.

Hi guys!

We got a new model of laptop (HP Probook 6560b) and i was injecting the drivers and so forth, but when i wanted to install Windows via MDT2010 i get this error:

"A connection to the deploymentshare \\x.x.x.x\Deploymentshare$ could not be made. The deployment will not proceed. Connection OK. Possible cause: Invalid credentials"

This is ONLY a problem for this model, all my other laptops and workstations work fine with MDT2010 deployment, i tried downloading all drivers HP have released, and rebuild the image after, but no dice.

Can any of you help me? :)

(COPIED THE ABOVE FROM A CLOSED TOPIC)

im new to this site but i have the same issue as above i no its gotta be a network driver issue however i have added 32BIT and 64Bit drivers, added driver for the NIC from Fujitsu website broadcom website.  I have built the laptop in windows 7 64BIT and the driver i have works for the onboard NIC.  I have updated deployment share and added the .wim back in to windows deplyment services,  However i keep getting credentials may be wrong.  When i press F8 and do an ipconfig i get nothing so definatley a NIC but its driving me mad.  I have tried Virtual Machines and other laptops it seems to be just one laptop thats causing me issues.

I just tried a generic image that booted up and gave me dos prompt and when i do an ipconfig in that and it works so now im even more confused.

Any help i would be highly appriciated

Thanks

MDT deployment: "Windows could not install the accepted License Terms onto the computer."

Hi there,

I'm trying to deploy my first Sysprep & Capture, and I'm running into some trouble. The Sysprep & Capture sequence went just fine. However, when I try to deploy the image, I get to the Completing Installation phase and receive the error "Windows could not install the accepted License Terms onto the computer."  I saw this thread, which appears to describe the same problem except that the OP is trying to create an installation ISO: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/mdt/thread/c485ba67-7457-4b8d-81e8-952aac2ecfe4/

After reading that thread, I tried importing the .wim (via Import Operating System) both without and with source files.  Neither method worked. I also tried recreating my boot media in case that was an issue, but that didn't resolve the issue either. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Rachel

Anyway to order the Applications in UDIWizard_Config.xml

Hi, using UDI from MDT 2010.

From what i see, when the wizard runs applications and any groups created are presented in the order in which you added them to the UDIWizard_Config.xml.

The problem is If you have many applications in your UDIWizard_Config.xml it is hard for the end user to find their application(s) easily.

Just wondering if anyone has a nice way to maintain order of applications that you add to UDIWizard_Config.xml?

Windows 8 and the Task Sequence Progress Dialog

$

Hello.  I'm setting up a deployment for Windows 8.  Although the deployment uses a custom Build & Capture WIM for the base, the final deployment has many tasks in the State Restore phase.  My problem is in showing the Task Sequence dialog during this phase.  If the HIDESHELL property is set to YES, then all one see's is Windows 8 saying "Installing Apps" (no task sequence dialog).  If HIDESHELL is set to NO, the Modern UI is shown by default and the user again doesn't see the task sequence dialog but can otherwise play around.  If you manually switch to the Desktop, the Task Sequence dialog is present and you can watch it progress as expected, but the computer can still be used by the user.

I'm toying with scripting a switch to the Desktop after each reboot so the task sequence dialog is at least visible, but I'd still rather user the HIDESHELL to keep people from interrupting the progress.   Is there a setting or script or something I should be including in my task sequence that allows for the task sequence dialog to be visible when either HIDESHELL is used or when the Modern UI is displayed?

Installing Roles and Features via MDT 2012 Update 1 Fails

$

Background Info: I have created a "Standard Server Task Sequence"via MDT 2012 Update 1, to deploy Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard.  I wanted to deploy some default Roles and Features via this task sequence, so I added some.  When I run the LTI deployment via the deployment share it installs the Operating System and adds it to my Domain without any issues.  But does not install any roles or features.  During the LTI Deployment Wizard, no matter what I do to the Task Sequence I can't get it to check the default roles and features I pre-select in the Task Sequence.  It's feels like it's not processing the selections I made in the Task Sequence step "Install Roles & Features", because nothing is checked during the LTI Installation Wizard.  I have tried looks all over the internet for full clarification on how ZTIOSRoles.wsf works during the LTI installation wizard for the past three days.  I can't find any place that completely explains how Roles and Features get installed during a LTI installation.  Can some explain to me what is the installation process for roles and features during LTI installation or point me to the resource (white paper, guide, etc.) thatcompletely explains this, so I can troubleshoot why they are notpreselected during the installation wizard?  I know I can customize the CustomSettings.ini file to install Roles and Features or use Database to install them, but don't want to go that route.
