USMT Load breaking Internet Explorer association with HTTP/HTTPS

Recently, we have began to notice that when replacing a users computer, and applying the USMT Load, the user is unable to open *.url files or run "start iexplore.exe www.example.com". They just get error message "This file does not have a program associated with it".

So I compared the following registry keys on the old computer a new one: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\http\shell\open

And I can see that the USMT has removed or overwritten the proper values on the new system. See picture.

After examining the LoadState.log file, I can see that the step "Processing APPLY for migration unit: <System>\Network and Internet\Internet Options\Microsoft-Windows-ieframe (CCSIAgent)" is processing the missing registry entries:

So I'm wondering if anybody else has ran into this problem? Is there a way to stop the IE settings from being migrated?

Thanks in advance!

Failure (5627) Run DISM.exe-Appears to be when I try to do offline updates

Hi, could someone please give me some advice here.  I am trying to apply offline updates to my Windows image.  Long story short, I added a package with Windows 8.1 and added all of the updates for it. When I try to create my image, I Get a Failure (5627) Run DISM.exe

I dug through the several log files and can see that it is the issue.  I disabled that Windows 8.1 folder and the image creates successfully, so I am 100% sure I am doing something wrong.

Advice?

MDT 2013 - Suspend Task Sequence and shut down?

Hi All,

I'm having an issue finding a way to Suspend the task sequence with the "LTISuspend" script and shutdown automatically.

I've tried to amend the ltisuspend script to add a shutdown command at the end but the task sequence fails then.

Any suggestions please? I just need to suspend the task sequence after the OS has installed and shutdown automatically.

Cheers in advance.

MDT 2013 Update 2

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

I built a new server, and I was able to install a brand new Windows 10 Pro 64-bit image on a laptop (HP EliteBook 850 G3) with no errors at all.  Although, it was missing 3 drivers (bluetooth drivers, and NXP NewFieldProximity Provider driver, which were later found by a Microsoft update).  I built my reference computer, and then progressed to capturing it by launching LiteTouch.vbs from my deploymentshare$.  It runs successfully until the "Running action: Execute Sysprep" part.  At this point, I am still able to ping the server, and browse to all folders and files in the deploymentshare$.  However, when I look in Device Manager, I don't see any network adapters (except for the MS Kernel Debug Network Adapter).  When I end the SysPrep tool from task manager, I get the following error message: "Can not find script file '\\SERVER\DeploymentShare$\Scripts\LTICleanup.wsf'."  Then I can no longer ping the server or browse the deploymentshare$  I also get the following Deployment Summary:

Dual Deployment Shares in MDT 2013

Our company has just decided to start using MDT and WDS. We are currently using Windows 7 but plan on making the move to Windows 10 and they wanted us to use MDT for deployment. I have created 2 deployment shares (one for each OS). Is there going to be a popup dos prompt to select one or the other or will it default?  If necessary I could suspend the Windows 10 while I am imaging Windows 7 models but would like to be able to work both at the same time.

  Any thoughts?

is there a way to run the MDT console on my system, but have processing done on the remote machine which the deployment share is on?

I've been running MDT locally with the deployment share housed on a removable HD.

I now have a server at my disposal so I was going to move my workflow to that machine. If I only move the deployment share to the server, but run the console on my computer I'm guessing all processioning will be done on my computer and there will be a lot of back and forth over the network.

Is there a way I can have the processing run on the server, while still interact with the console locally, or is installing MDT on the server and working through RDP the only option if I want the processing to be offloaded to the remote machine?

"A connection to the deployment share could not be made. The following networking device did not have a driver installed" - Before booting into LiteTouch x64.

I know this is a commonly asked question. I believe I've followed all the steps within this guide.

The machine I'm trying to build is a Dell OptiPlex 7040, I've downloaded the cab file from the Dell Support page, and I've updated the Deployment Share, and then replaced the .wim file.

I beg any help!!

Running MDT wizard on Surface Pro truncates column details and buttons

I'm having an issue on Surface Pro's when running the MDT wizard.  The screen size of the wizard truncates the heading, body, and button areas.  The heading details overlap each other when more than 1 line is required for heading.  The buttons at the bottom aren't shown; therefore, users have to manually resize the window to show the buttons.  After resizing the window, the buttons are truncated so only 2/3 of the button is visible after the window resize.  I could try resizing with different methods but hoping someone has a quick window.resizeTo and windows.moveTo method they've already used and tested using wizard.hta file.  Does anyone have a quick resolution for sizing the wizard pane?  Using MDT 2013 (Litetouch).

Can not locate control file

We have created a new task sequence in MDT 2012 and is using a win 7 image used on a previous ts. The OS deploys but we see the error screen stating that it can not locate control files of 2 previous ts. I see no where in the xml file where these are referenced. Can anyone point me in the right direction into clearing this up?

After 4 days of searching (and headdesks) I can not find a solution to my problem. I found opposites.

Goal: Install Windows server 2008 and new with the default system drive of M:, Not C:

Things tried.

  • Setting osdisk varable to = M
  • Disabling disk formatting and make a diskpart script and assign letter M, change install os to target M
  • Set OSDPreserveDriveLetter to false
  • Edit unattend.xml to have drive configurations in windowspe>setup_netural link
It always goes back to C:

Disable formatting the disk(s)

Hello,

I want to create an LTI installation. Since we use different workstations with different disk-layouts we would like to partition the disk(s) manually instead of the automatic procedure. Is there a way to achieve this?

For example after entering the computer-name we would like to get a gui for defining the partitions.

Does anyone know how?

Kind Regards,

Jan

Deploy Win10 Image with Secure Boot Enabled on HP Hardware

Hi,

I am trying to deploy Custom Win 10 Image using MDT UEFI offline Media on HP Laptop and Destop with SecureBoot enabled.

I had enabled SecureBoot in UEFI with following Option "Legacy Boot disabled and SecureBoot Enabled".

Drive Partitions in Deployment task sequence are defaults for UEFI i.e. :  EFI, MSR, OS, Recovery.

After Deploying the Image, Win 10 OS still shows  Secure Boot State:OFF under System Information.

When I deploy same iso media over Hyper-V Gen2 VM with secureboot enabled,  OS shows SecureBoot State:ON

Is there something I am missing or other setting required in UEFI\BIOS on HP Hardware before installing Windows 10 Image other than enabling secureboot?

Do we need to install any UEFI tool after installing OS to configure UEFI SecureBoot or create additional Partition like "HP_tools".  http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c03857419-1

What is recommended way of Booting with USB where SecureBoot is enabled during deployment. Sometimes, I get error message, "Boot Image is not authenticated". Do we directly select the UEFI USB under Boot Menu or we have to select"Boot from File" and select EFI\Boot\Boot64.efi file.

TaskSequence dont work after updating from "MTD2010 Update 2" to "MTD2013 Update 2"

Hi there

I had MTD2010 Update 2 on Windows 8.1 x64 for Sysprep and Capture Windows 7 x32 clients on Virtualbox. This worked well except for the settings for IE11. So I decided to update to MTD2013 Update 2. After that TS for Sysprep and Capture can run a wizard, make something, then reboot system and then only "windows starting file ..."

I am doing the same thing as before. But now MDT dont work.

Running MDT 2013 Update 2

Installing Windows 7 x64 in a Hyper-V VM on a Windows 10 Host.  I need to capture the WIM of my Gold Image.

If I look in the captures folder in the deployment share, I can see that 1 or 2 GB of the WIM makes it, so it would not seem to be a network and/or permission issue.

Similar solution works in my home lab; the problem occurs on the real server at work.

What would be the most common issues to cause this?

Thanks!

Deployment Failure - thick image - (5627) dism.exe (MDT 2012 Update 1)

$

I installed MDT 2012 Update 1 on a new server and was testing it out with our Windows 8 deployment. I captured a thick image which works fine when I boot to Win PE and apply it using dism.

I imported the image into the the deployment share (custom, no setup/sysprep) and created a Custom Task Sequence with just 3 tasks to do a custom format (command line using dism), apply the image (choose specific disk and partition), and restart the computer. However, when I go through the task sequence, it comes up with some errors and appears that it gets sysprepped again because it prompts me to answer questions that weren't a part of my original sysprep (EULA, adding a new user, etc).

Any idea where I need to look to get this fixed? I've shared the BDD.log and LTIApply.log on my SkyDrive.
