Hello everybody.

I have a problem with refresh scenario.

I start LiteTouch.vbs from old OS. All steps executed succesfully. USMT works correctly.

DynamicLogs shows me

Property TaskSequenceID is now = 7X64V6.3.3 Wizard
Found Task Sequence Item: //step[@type='BDD_InstallOS']Wizard
Found Task Sequence step of type //step[@type='BDD_InstallOS']
Task Sequence contains a LTIApply.wsf step, and is not running within WinPE

As I understand, TS have to continue booting from c:\sources folder and TS have to continue properly, instead that:

after restarting computer in WinPE, MDT offers again choose which TS I want to start. Previous Refresh scenario has failed in log I see the following

Why Refresh scenario doesnt continue?

Hi Guys and Girls,

MDT Server keeps losing network connection randomly...although I am starting to think now it is happening while capturing the image.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

remove edge on taskbar during build

Hi All,

I'm getting windows 10 ready for deployment to our estate which has close to 5000 machines. I've been looking for way to remove Edge from the taskbar during build so it's not there by default for the users.

Most answers talk about removing it via group policy, but this is unacceptable because that policy stops the users being able to pin any item.

Is there any powershell cmdlets which can be used to remove edge from the taskbar of the default user during build?

Thanks

SCCM1511 - Setting Computer name - Task Sequence Variable "Name" - Failing - Added Details

Hello,

We are building a W10 image with sccm1511 as the deployment tool and have basic success deploying basically the raw W10 ISO.  Now we are trying to build upon our success.

Why would this task sequence fail in SCCM 1511 with Windows 10?  It works in SCCM2012 with Windows 7 64bit no problem!

ADD DETAILS:  Form the machine being imaged.

Windows could not parse or process the unattetnd answer file for pass [specialize].  The settings specified in the answer file cannot be applied.  The error was detected while processing settings for component [Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup].

In SCCM2012 we name our computers with a "Set Task Sequence Variable.

Computer Name (Laptop) - Name

OSDComputername - Is set as the Task Sequence Variable

W7L-%SERIALNUMBER% - Is set as the value.

Thank you,

Tony H.

MDT & Win10 - disable autologon and disable local administrator account

$

Hi, I'm fairly new to image creation using MDT... I've been trying to create a basic Win 10 Enterprise x64 image, for testing purposes and just to get used to the process, using the steps at https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/itpro/windows/deploy/create-a-windows-10-reference-image. Things seem to be working--I have my captured WIM file on my MDT server.

One main question at this point. When I start back up my Hyper-V based Win10 Enterprise reference image, Win10 boots up and autologs on with the local administrator account. Also, there is no password assigned to that account. I have a step I added into unattend.xml via WinSIM that creates a separate local admin account with a password, and that account is there and working as expected. But I'd like to have the local "administrator" account have a specific password, as well as be disabled following Sysprep. I added UserAccounts/AdministratorPassword into 7 oobeSystem/Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup but it does not seem to be applying that step, so not sure what's going on.

My understanding is MDT uses the local admin account during the image creation process and I've watched it as the local administrator account automatically logs on and chugs away at the task sequence. But from what I've read elsewhere, the autologon option for local admin should be removed once everything completes. I see an AutoLogon option under 7 oobeSystem. I'm not sure if that is there to let the admin account do its steps in the TS, or if that's the source of my problem. I don't recall adding it....

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Windows 10 Reference Build sysprep

$

Hi

I hope everyone is well and can advise. I've been using MDT for about 3 years, for Windows 7 onwards. I'm trying to build a Windows 10 Reference build I'm on MDT 2013 Update 1, and I have built a task sequence as per the advise here:

http://deploymentresearch.com/Research/Post/496/Building-a-Windows-10-Reference-Image-using-MDT-2013-Update-1

All is well when I deploy the task sequence to a virtual machine until it gets to sysprep. The MDT Monitoring node is showing the task sequence at 92% completed (step name Executing Sysprep ) but it is not progressing.

On the VM, it is sat at a login screen, and if I try to log in, I cannot do so - the admin account is disabled. The MDT logs are not copied to the log share, because the TS isn't completed, and I can't access the logs on the hard disk of the vm, as I keep getting told the admin account is locked.

I need to know how to either add a local account into the VM, so that I can log onto it and look at the logs, or I need to know how to let the sysprep process complete, so thathe wim file is created and copied.

Yesterday I also read this thread about enabling the admin account

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/b37e1cf4-163d-4172-9cb3-724049962da7/mdt-2012-update-1-local-admin-account-disabled?forum=mdt

I have checked the xml file and the RunSynchronousCommand is present in the file.

Is this something that I am doing wrong, or has anyone else had the same issue.

How do I add an second Admin account to the Task Sequence, so that I can access the VM to look at the logs. Ultimately I need to understand why sysprep is not working as it normally does. It is probably because the admin account it locked out/disabled. I should also mention that I can run reference builds on the other task sequences for several different operating systems successfully, (I've updated my wim files on all Operating systems successfully in September using reference builds), and as far as I can tell the Task Sequence for the Windows 10 Reference build is the same as the Windows 8.1 Task Sequence.

Any advise gratefully accepted, we can't roll Windows 10 out until I masterthe Reference build.

John

deploy image from MDT to VM(on Hyper-V)

Hi,

I asked the same question on Hyper-V forum...

Then I thought that MDT people could help too...

-----Hi,

I need to deploy Windows OS from MDT 2013 base image.

I created VM on Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V. Moved Network adapter as first boot device.

Theoretically, it should find PXE... But it doesn't

For physical machine I press F12. What I am missing?

A while ago I think I saw F12 in virtual machine on Server 2012 (I know it supports PXE). And I remember I was able to come to

Light touch Wizard of MDT and even start deployment. But it fail on VM. So I gave up (was not rush).

I would like to resolve this and be able to deploy from MDT to VM.

Any suggestions. MDT2013 is absolutely fine for physical machines...

Thx.  ------

Hi Tech Support,

My son set himself up as account administrator on his new Alienware laptop with Windows 10. I want to add parental controls. Do I make myself account administrator and add him as a child? How do I do that? I have his login and password.

Thank you,

ZTIApplyGPOPack, rc = 1, Windows 10, workaround is applied already

Hi all,

I use a custom GPOPack for a new computer deployment, and it randomly fails with the known error:

ZTI ERROR - Non-zero return code by ZTIApplyGPOPack, rc = 1

Earlier I found this article explaining how to fix this:

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/matt_hinsons_manageability_blog/2016/01/29/gpo-packs-in-mdt-2013-u1-for-windows-10/

It still fails most of the times, and when it actually succeed it does not apply all settings. It is a new computer deployment and I use a virtual environment in my test phase. For testing purpose I clear disk 0 every time I test. I have recreated to GPOPack several times. I use LGPO.exe to export it as described here:

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/secguide/2016/01/21/lgpo-exe-local-group-policy-object-utility-v1-0/

This behavior also seem to affect other Task Sequences as well. I have a step just before applying the GPOPack, where I import some file associations (using cmd /c dism.exe /Online /Import-DefaultAppAssociations:%SCRIPTROOT%\fileassoc.xml). Naturally I have tried disabling this in my testing.

I have only this error in the BDD.log.

Does anyone experience this or know how to fix it?

Program to tell me the available switches for .exe installation files?

Hi everyone.  I'm pretty new to MDT but have it working in a beginner's state at the moment.  I'm moving on to application installation and I'm wondering if there is a program or basic command line tool that I can use to find out what switches are available for MSI and EXE files so I can install them during an MDT sequence.  Any help greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Speed up "Windows Update (Pre-Application Installation) portion of task sequence?

Hi folks. I recently made a brand new, fully updated (from windows update) Windows 7 image that has every update possible.  I have WSUS running on the network and the machines look there for updates during the task sequence. Despite having every update already installed in the image, when the deployment gets to the "Windows Update (Pre-Application Installation) point of the task sequence, it takes 20 minutes to move on having not installed or needed any updates.  There is no problem in the setup as when using a non fully updating install it retrieves the updates from WSUS just fine even though it takes just as long to get started.  How can I speed up this phase?  Thanks.

How do I do this?  I'm trying to install an application that comes in .exe form (that will not extract to a folder that I can tell) and looking to add this as an application in the MDT applications folder so it is available during MDT push install.  Thanks.

Hi There,

I had MDT used for Deploying Images for Windows 7.

Have been trying to do the same for Windows 10. I did update the Deployment Workbench to Version 6.3.8330.1000.I've also updated the deployment Shares after doing that and last but not least I updated the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit for Windows 10 (10.1.10586.0)

After capturing an image and following the same procedure - I do get the error message

Litetouch deployment failed, Return Code = -2147467259 0x80004005

I will try to attach the smsts.log file

Import OS from network drive without copying it's to a local drive

Hi. The question of thread in it's name - is possible to import OS (wim file) from network drive without copying it's to a local drive? I have succesfully imported OS image, but MDT trying to copy wim file to the local drive.

Intermittingly getting error "Permission denied (70)" when installing applications on Windows 10

$

0

I've installed patch 2 for MDT 2013 and started to look into deploying Windows 10 Enterprise. Most of the times the deployment works ok. However, sometimes I do get errors when installing applications:

"WARNING - unable to set working directory: Permission denied (70)"

The files reside on a DFS share and access is set correctly. The same applications do work ok when deploying Windows 7. Nothing has been changed on the DFS side. We install apps from different locations like local MDT share and also two different DFS shares. Access to one of the DFS shares works ok while the second may fail.

I can remember having had a similar issue back in Windows XP times where XP wasn't able to access different network locations. So we had to put in a couple of reboots. Strange to see that behaviour come back.

Interestingly enough sometimes it works without problems. I don't think it is related to the back-end systems as that is occuring at multiple sites and Windows 7 works ok.

Excerpt from the log file below showing both the successful and the failed attempt.

Any ideas ?

Thanks
Thorsten

Dell OptiPlex 5040 - DeploymentShare$ Connection OK. Possible Cause Invalid Credentials

Hi All...

I just got in some new Dell OptiPlex 5040's that I'm trying to do a task sequence with. Unfortunately, after PXE booting directly into MDT 2013 U1, I'm getting the error message:

A connection to the deployment share (\\192.168.3.68\deploymentshare$) could not be made. Connection OK. Possible Cause: Invalid Credentials.

What strikes me extremely odd is that I can PXE boot into MDT with any other Dell system that's not a 5040 without a problem. I know my credentials in MDT are correct.

Any help in helping me determine where this problem is and how to resolve it is greatly appreciated!

Thanks... Frank

Problem with Drive letter for Windows partition in WinPE

Hi,

I hope this is an easy one. Nevertheless I have not been able to find a solution on this forum or elsewhere.

I use default setup in MDT for partitioning disk 0. I have disabled both BitLocker task sequences, as we do not need them.

When I deploy a captured image in UEFI mode, the targetdrive for Windows is not "C:", and some of my Copy scripts fails, as it assumes that Windows is installed on "C:". I guess it has something to do with the extra partition added in UEFI mode, and Windows changes to D: because it's "next available driver letter".

How can I either:

1. Permanently fix that Windows is C:?

2. Find the driveletter and use it in my .cmd scripts?

I would really appreciate your answer!

MDT tips. Local admin account, Drivers and Office.

I plan to setup an OSD at a school with ~100 students. This is the first time I setup MDT/WDS in a production environment and I'm very excited. :-) Now I want some tips.

- The school have two different computers, same brand but with different specs. I have no idea if the computer needs drivers or if they are build-in or downloaded from Windows update. Can I make a "out of box drivers" and put drivers for both computers in the same package, and it will choose the best suiting driver? I really don't want to use variables and such at this stage.

- They want to have Office in their image. Is the best way to "hardinstall" it, or automate the process via the build in office deployment feature-thingie?

- What is the best way to handle Local Admin accounts? I'm aware of LAPS and have implementet it a few times, and it works fine, but I don't want to mess with it in this environment. Does it even need to have a Local Admin account? I really don't want students to get hold of the Local admin password. :-)
