Is there any way to set the Deployroot on the LiteTouch boot media (WDS, USB, or CD) based on Active Directory Sites (instead of having to manually add each subnet)?
Yeah Buddy!

I'm currently using - MDT 2010 on Windows 7 on a Virutal Machine. I deploy my images using a USB stick. (Advanced Configuration / Media). The process of creating a selection profile, Creating Media, and updating my media works perfectly.
I wanted to move to MDT 2012 SP1 on Server 2008 R2 platform. So I installed AIK, MDT 2012 SP1, etc on a Server 2008 R2 Virtual Machine. I setup the MDT same way as my current working model and it was looking good. Next I created my Selection Profile and Media. Then when I ran "Update Media" it seems to work until it gets stuck at the last process "Reset Read Only Attributes"
Looking for any advice on why it might keep getting stuck here. The only way I can exit the process it to "Stop Execution"
Reminder - on my Win 7 / MDT 2010 box, it works fine and this process completes.
Thanks for any feedback.
In Client computers , User data and files usually are stored in D: E: F: ... etc.
Now I want to do a bare metal deployment with disk re-partitioning.
How to use MDT to do this , with all user's data and files not lost?
Hi,I'm running MDT 2010 U1.
Recently when attempting a Sysprep & Capure TS, the location dialog is being skipped. I've read some threads and believe this is due to the JOINDOMAIN variable being populated in SQL although this isn't a new thing and believe it has always been this way.
The machine I'm attempting to capture is in a workgroup and I'm only specifying the creds as required to map the network drive to the deployment share and at the beginning of the wizard.
Are there any reasons for this potentially now impacting the S&C TS? I'm willing to strip it back to the bare basics if necessary
Thanks in advance..
Chris.
Hi,
I get the following error when deploying windows 7 image to HP z420 workstation:
Failure 5456: Unable to determine destination disk, partition, and/or drive. See BDD.LOG
LiteTouch deployment failed, return code = -2147467259 0x80004005
Failed to run the action: inject drivers
.......
When I deploy this same image with exact same settings to virtual machine or HP Elitebook laptop everything works fine. I have imported all z420 drivers to MDT too.
Any ideas?
x86 PE has no problem
x64 PE encountered such problem.
Is there a place, in MDT or one of the scripts, where I can modify what drive letter the DVD drive is being assigned?
In the deployment I am working with, I have a script that creates a D: partition and formats it for the user using diskpart, installing Windows 7 on the C: partition. WinPE is somehow assigning the DVD drive to D: so the script is failing to create and format the D: partition.
I have followed this thread
and TechNet to Setup Bitlocker but still I don't see Recovery Key. I have skipped Win2K8 and Vista settings though.
Here's my environment:
Win2K8 R2 and Win 7
1. Add-TPMSelfWriteACE.vbs has been run on AD(DC1)
2. Recovery Viewer is installed
3. Advanced Features checked
4. GPO is created and applied to "LaptopOU".
Setting in GPO:
Security: Authenticated Users
Under Computer Configuration, Polices, Administrative Template, Windows Components and Bitlocker Drive Encryption
a. Fixed Data Drives:
1. Choose how Bitlocker-protected fixed drives can be recovered - Enabled
Settings enabled in that : all options checked
Allow 48 digit recovery password
Allow 256-bit recovery key
Backup recovery passwords and key packages
b. Operating System Drive:
1. Choose how Bitlocker-protected operating system drives can be recovered - Enabled
Settings enabled in that : all options checked
Allow 48 digit recovery password
Allow 256-bit recovery key
Backu7p recovery passwords and key packages
Under Computer Configuration, Polices, Administrative Template, System and TPM Services
Turn on TPM backup to ADDS : Enabled
3. TPM Enabled in DELL Laptop BIOS
4. MDT TS - Bitlocker enabled and in CS.ini
[Laptop-True]
BdeInstallSupress=NO
BDEDrivesSize=300
BDEInstall=TPM ;do not want users to enter password at the startups
BDERecoveryKey=AD
OSDBitLockerWaitForEncryption=TRUE
MachineObjectOU=OU=LaptopOU,dc=mydomain,dc=local
I have a really stupid question, but I just want to make sure I'm doing this right.
I'm using MDT2012 and WDS. Multicast is all set. When a PC PXE boots, the Microsoft Solutions Accelerator screen shows and it says "attempting to multicast" Then it connects to the multicast session and says "Multicast Transfer 20%" and so on up too 100%. After that it says "Applying image 10 minutes left" counting down until complete.
My question is is this the correct behavior? Is it supposed to stay on the Microsoft Solutions Accelerator screen or is it supposed to show the default Windows 7 setup screen AFTER the multicast session completes?
How to hide a specific TS in WinPE or TS is hidden if DeploymentType is NEWCOMPUTER?
Thanks
Hi,
The place I work for is migrating to Windows 7 from WinXP. All of our Dell workstations have that Dell Diagnostics partition on Disk 0, partition 1. My intention is to format the whole drive (getting rid of that Dell Diag partition), drive 0, and deploy our custom image from MDT with that Windows reserved 100MB partition on partition 1 and OS on partition 2. I want to be able to use MDT 2010 with USMT to backup user's data to a server on the network and restore it afterwards in one shot.
1) I see that when I try to create a task, there are two templates "Standard Client Task Sequence" and "Standard Client Replace Task Sequence". Assume that I choose DeploymentType=REPLACE, I guess our technicians will have to do a two-step process. First, they have to use the task created by "Standard Client Replace Task Sequence" to back up user's data and then use other task "Standard Client Task Sequence" to deploy custom image and restore data. Is there a way to do this with just one task, one shot deal?
2) I am a little bit confused with the deployment type. In my situation described above, since I am going to format the harddrive. I guess I can't use "REFRESH", correct? Because "refresh" is to preserve the partition and delete XP OS/Program Files folder and install Win7. So, which type should I use then, "NEWCOMPUTER" or "REPLACE"?
Thanks.
David
Hello All,
When deploying Windows 7, 32bit OS to an HP 8470p, I get the following error when it's about to boot to Windows: "The Computer Restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click OK to restart the computer and then restart the installation".
In order to fix this, I followed these steps which allowed the deployment to complete:
Hit F8 to open CMD, open regedit and go to the following key: HKLocal machine/SYSTEM/SETUP/STATUS/ChildCompletion, double-clicked on setup.exe and changed the value from 1 to 3. Clicked OK in the error window and the PC would reboot into windows and provide the standard successful deployment window.
I am uncertain if something is not configured correctly or if I need to do something that automates changing this registry key. Please note that this issue is not present with the exact same model laptop when applying a 64bit image.
32/64bit images have successfully been deployed to other HP models (8440p, 6310, 6320, 8460 etc.)
Could someone please let me know what to change? The 8470p is going to be out staple laptop we provide to staff and this will be rather annoying to have to do manually.
Thank you in advance for reading/helping!
Excuting Scritps\Litetouch.vbs from within the client computer through network share is the only way?
Can I do Refresh Deployment from PXE boot with Lite Touch PE (x86) or (x64) ,when the current operating system of client computer offline?
If yes, How to?
Tnx, Bas

Hi Guys,
Been Looking at heaps of Threads and Posts to find the right way how to configure default user on Windows XP using MDT 2012?
Hopefully someone can share their Windows XP Build Experiences on this post.
Thankyou
Regards,
Shane
When do a Refresh scenario ,how to skip the UserData Backup Selection step and not backup the User Data?
And, when do a Refresh scenario ,how to skip the Computer Backup Selection step and not backup the Computer?
What should be set in the CS.ini?
2012 MDT -- bootstrap.ini has credentials (check 6 times)
Still get this error: "
Yet when I cancel and do a net use directly to the deployment share with the same credentials it connects with no issue.
The credentials are good, the share is accessible, the network is good, the server is online, the share directories and files are there.
Ideas?

Hello,
We want to sign amd64.cat, where cross.cer is the cross certificate of Microsoft for GoDaddy, and xxx CN value of our driver sign certificate, When we sign using below command
SignTool sign /v /ac cross.cer /s my /n xxx /t http://timestamp.verisign.com/scripts/timstamp.dll amd64.cat
The error comes "signtool error no certificates were found that meet all the given criteria"
When we try to sign without cross certificate using PFX and PVK it successfully sign the .cat file but when we verify .cat file below error occurs
SignTool Error: A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider.
