Any way you can make a local deployment share using MDT? i have seen it happen but not sure if it was scripted in or not. The purpose is to deploy from the harddrive without using network which would take 2+ hours. So for instance buying harddrives and cloning them i could stick them in the same build and deploy it easily... Havent looked if its there in mdt2013 yet. Or if anyone could suggest a few sollutions other then MDT. THanx

USMT with /vsc switch ignore unconditionalExclude patterns

Got a weird situation whereby I am excluding D: (and all other partitions other than C:) using a custom xml file. While testing, I was coming across some locked files, so I added /vsc and it seemed to continue. Once I fleshed out my ScanState.exe parameters, however, I could not exclude the contents of D:. Not until I removed /vsc anyway.

After testing a few more times I found that /vsc seems to show similar behaviour to /localonly in that it will include all fixed drives regardless of what's specified in the xml files.

Anyone seen this before? I have searched high and low and have not found any clues to why this is happening.

I had posted this in the Microsoft Assessment and Planning Toolkit Forum after misreading it as the Assessment and Deployment toolkit forum, but couldn't do anything about it. This seems to be a better place for it.

ConfigMgr Integration on remote console

Hi,

Any ideas on how I would install the MDT intergration to SCCM on a remote console - eg not on the SCCM server? I've tried running the intergration wizard from a mapped drive, but it fails to install - I get a blank wizard screen. I'm running as an administrator, and without the console running on my client.

Thanks,

David

Hi! I need help and fast.

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2, with WDS, and MDT running in Hyper-V
The Server is configured to use the external USB network adapter for ethernet.

The Internal Network Setup.
Physical Switch - connected to the Hyper-V server.
Hyper-V adapter settings, it to use the network card as external.
But the switch is not physically connected to Internet, only to the Server.

I have configured the MDT server to deploy Windows 7.

PXE boot works fine on a virtual machine, but not on the physical client.

The psysical client machine (dell e7440)

connected to a switch, and the switch is connected to the Hyper-V host server

MY SETUP
Lab Environment.

Server 1 Hyper -V host
Server 2 DC01
Server 3 MDT01

I can see that the machine gets an IP adress from DHCP Server.
The error I get is this

I can see that the physical Dell machine, gets an IP adress, from the DHCP Server.

The error I get is this, and i can't continue with PXE, I don't recieve my bootfile name either.

WDS - PXE No reply from DHCP port 4011

MDT 2013 - Installing Offline Updates via USB Media

Hi Everyone,

I am running into a bit of an issue where for some reason the 'apply Patches' step in my TS is not working. I am wanting to install Windows Updates via my TS using the Apply Patches' step.

Steps I have tried to get it working but have failed;

1. Created a seperate Selection Profile called Win7 Windows Updates and Pointed Apply Patches to this profile in the TS.

2. Moved the 'Apply Patches' step to Preinstall, Postinstall.

3. Injected different updates to see if the updates that i was using where corrupt or incorrect.

4. Created a brand new TS and pointed to the Selection Profile called Win7 Windows Updates.

All the above steps did not work and now I am at a loss on what to try next.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as at the moment, our Updates are just being done by WIndows Updates.  (we do not have a WSUS server in place).

Thanks,

David

PXE Boot Across Subnets

$

Hi,

I know this question has been asked many times, but not too many of those have solutions, and/or circumstances which do not pertain to my setup. I have WDS set up on a Windows server that is not hosting DHCP. PXE boot works great on the native subnet. A non-Windows Linux DHCP server provides IP addresses to clients on many different subnets. This DHCP server has option 66 and 67 configured to provide the WDS server's IP address and the boot file of "boot\x64\wdsnbp.com"

Each time I try to boot to the network on a remote subnet, I get an IP address, but that is where the process stops. A "TFTP." message appears then the machine goes into the Dell response menu: F1 to retry, F2 to enter setup, F5 to reboot, etc... Where can I look to see where this process is breaking down. I am just responsible for WDS. I do not have access to the DHCP server or the routers and switches. I would guess is the network hardware will pass DHCP traffic, it should pass PXE boot traffic. Right?

Thanks in advance

MDT 2013 LTI question

I am in the process of setting up an test of MDT 2013 running on Windows Server 2012 R2. I enabled WDS and then installed MDT. I have configured the two main .ini files (Bootstrap.ini & CustomSettings.ini) based on what I have read from multiple online resources and the included Help file. My reference image is just Windows 8.1 x64 Enterprise that I built in Hyper-V and sysprepped using the GUI (no unattend.xml specified).

In order to get a fully automated image task, do I need to go to my custom WIM in WDS and right click on it and select properties to enable silent install and specify an unattend.xml?  I have an unattend.xml file that I have been using with another imaging solution.  It contains all the settings to wipe the hard drive using diskpart, set the partitions, etc.  It seems redundant though as MDT appears to want you to specify those settings in the Task Sequence or is this a case of "choose which one you want to deal with"?

I made a Deploment media that i want to use to install Windows on a laptop that dosent support PXE,

This laptop have built in card reader,

After deployment process start it all goes well untill first boot from Windows PE to Windows8.1, then the Deployment Wizard throws an error saying:

"There is no disk in the drive. please insert a disk into drive e:"

At this point in time Windows Aoutomatically decided that drive E is an empty card reader

and Deployment USB is Drive D:

Is there a way to alter the scrip somewhere to look for drive D instead or some other solution ?

I am only getting this error on this specific machine. Can anyone point me in the right direction to try and remedy this error.
Thanks,

400MB video driver in Driver Pack for SCCM

Hi,

I looking at drivers in SCCM Driver Pack for Lenovo x240 laptop.

Want to ask about Video driver GODZILLA folder. It is about 400MB in size.

The Pack is for 64 bit W7. However there are tons of 32 dlls and other stuffe that I guess absolutely unnecessary.

I need just the driver for getting appropriate resolution. No management soft for Video card.

I use MDT2013 (no SCCM). Is there a way to trim this thingy or I have to import this whole ....

Thanks.

Im using MDT 2013 to deploy Windows 2012  R2 Server in the Vmware. the server will be a workgroup server and there are set of Local Policy i would need to apply including UAC, Password, Security, Account Lockout, and few Remote desktop connections policies. I know we could use the ApplyGPO Task sequence to make it applied on the machine. I tried exporting the policy applied in Win 2012 R2 using local GPO but not able to export. i predominantly need to export my Administrative tempaltes like Autoplay, Remote Desktop Host, Group policy and Event log. i installed SCM 3.0 and tried local GPO and it failed. is there anyother way you could recommend to export nd import.

also if we try gpedit.msc from command prompt, we should be able to see the policy which are applied. Kindly help

a specific version of lenovo x1 carbon (3460D4G) gives bluescreen after half deployment when it starts to starts windows. I found out that it's the I could try disabling usb 3 in BIOS and also changing from "AHCI" to "Compatible". This made the deployment work but this is not a good solution as our plan is that the user does this or a different company, how can I automize this process or avoid it? After turning those options of then the deployment stopped when it logged into windows because it dident have a usb driver installed, do you see the problem? im new to this.

im going to watch this video soon and maybe it will help me : http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/TechEd/Europe/2014/WIN-B314

MDT 2012 - Office 2010 - more then one instance of the same language pack ???

Hi,

when you add Office to the MDT a new tab called "office products" appears in the properties of the Office application. In that tab it's possible to add language packs. Now I did make the mistake of adding the same language pack three times. So when the MDT starts the installation of Office, it presents me with an overview of the installable products and yes it contains three instances of the same language pack. Can you tell me how I can delete two of them? Thanks !

Run a script before the selection of Applications

Hi,

I would like to run a commande line before the panel of the selection of the applications.  The command will change a registry key in windowspe because we have too much application and we need to extend the time before a time out.

If I add a command line at the top of the tasksequence, the change will work but too late.  If I do it manually in my wim, I will need to do it again if I regenerate the image ?

Thanks

MDT 2012 SP1 - Image deployment to disk 1

I am trying to get a task sequence setup to install the image on disk 1.

Task sequence name: Deploy W7 x64 to D1

Task sequence  tab --> Pre Install --> Format & Partition Disk | Values: Disk Number: 1 Disk Type: Standard(MBR) The box is checked for Create extra active partition

Task sequence  tab --> Install --> Select the location where you want to apply the operating system: Specific Disk and Partition Disk: 1 Partition: 1

I then click OK and then edited the unattended.xml via the MDT task sequence Deploy W7 x64 to D1 --> OS Info  (tab) --> Edit Unattended.xml Button. Then expanded Windows PE --> amd64_Microsoft-Windows-Setup_neutral --> Image Install --> OS Image --> InstallTo | Settings: DiskID value is 1; PartitionID 1

&

Windows PE --> amd64_Microsoft-Windows-Setup_neutral --> Disk(DiskID)=1 --> CreatePartition --> CreatePartition(Order="1")

&

Windows PE --> amd64_Microsoft-Windows-Setup_neutral -->  ModifyPartition -->  Letter = C | Order = 1 | PartitionID= 1

I have rebooted the deployment server, I also rebuilt the deployment share... Watching the deployment on the screen Lightouch says preparing Disk 1 Partition... When the install completes I see a black screen: BootMgr Missing. If reboot with F12 and select to boot from the Hard Drive it boots on the image, Bios says that is disk 0. When Windows loads I see data on Disk 1, the SSD as well as data on Disk 0. This is a Dell M3800 with 2 drives installed.
