mdt 2012 + WDS service on the same server. DHCP question

0
0

Hi,

I am using MDT 2012 on Server 2008.

Boot images are placed on 6 years old WDS server running on 2003.

I need to remove WDS server (2003).

Cannot find exact instructions for enabling PXE for MDT2012.

I don't need introduction guides. But clear few lines of instructions.

From quickly checking web I understand that I need:

1. install WDS services on the same MDT2012 server 2008.

2. import Lite Touch boot images from Deployment Share

The only point I am missing is DHCP question. In Microsoft prerequisites for WDS services, DHCP should be present on the same server were WDS is...

I watched one video on web and the guy just installs WDS on the MDT server and not mentioning DHCP at all.

Sure that there is DHCP server serving multiple subnets on the network.

My confusion about DHCP on WDS prerequisite comes from not having DHCP services installed on old WDS 2003 machine.

So why it is required on WDS service in server 2008/2012?

Can somebody confirm that DCHP must exist on the same server were MDT and WDS services are enabled.

And is it a valid option to have all 3 on one Server machine if DHCP is really needed for enabling PXE in MDT environment?

I saw the info about ports 67 (should be disabled) and 60 for PXE enabled.

Will appreciate DHCP part explanation and how to...

Thanks.

This error message appears: "MMC has detected an error in a snap-in and will unloadt it". After many verifications and tests by importing DART Tools v7, v8 or v801 x86 and x64, and because there's no findable answer on Internet, I ask you guys to help me if it's possible and if you know what to do. I'm actually on a Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and with a MDT x64.

UEFI USB Deployment.

Hi,

I'm currently working on a solution to deploy my fat image via USB to our Windows 8.1 devices.  Some of the veterans here have tinkered with processes to deploy swm files, and it worked for me in the past. Unfortunately, the Keith Gardner process I used is now prompting an incorrect function error when running LTIApply on my most recent image.  We have tablet users in the field and there are times when a USB deployment would be necessary because of remote access.  Anyone have a working process to deploy a Windows 8 image on UEFI systems via USB?  I've thought about possibly formatting a second NTFS partition on the thumbdrive to house the image, but I'm not sure how to tell MDT where to look.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any way to delay lite touch start up after a reboot?

We are deploying some new Lenovo devices (Yoga) and in order to get the widi / screen rotation software installed you first must install the appropriate device drivers and then do a reboot.  We have done this in the task sequence, BUT the issue is that these devices do not have ethernet, and use a USB3 ethernet adapter.  One of the updated drivers used to make the widi install work also causes the ethernet adapter to "re-install" after the restart.  This causes light touch to throw an error that it can not contact the deployment share.  I can hit retry and everything works.

Is there anything I can do to delay the startup of LT after a reboot in order to allow the USB Ethernet driver to load properly?  Can I remove the LT startup shortcut and replace it with a .bat file that would have a wait in it?  I am just trying to find a way to make this work without me clicking retry on every machine! :)

Thanks,

Dan

Upgrading to MDT 2013, do I still need MBR in my task sequences?

0

So we are gearing up for our MDT 2013 upgrade and we are finally kicking all the legacy OS deployments to the curb. We are only going to support deployments of Windows 7 x86, Windows 7 x64, and Windows 8.1 x64. We are deploying several surfaces that require GPT for the OS volume. I'd prefer to avoid the creation of separate task sequences for GPT/MBR formatting. What would be the consequences of kicking MBR to the curb and switching all my task sequences to GPT? Does GPT require UEFI in order to boot?

Hi all

I have installed MDT 2013 on a Server 2012 R2 machine and I am having trouble importing any OS. I get an error Part of the path could not be found. MDT 2013 - Linked Deployment Share

I have MDT with WDS setup in the corporate HQ's working great.  Litetouch config either PXE booting or USB boot to the MDT share.  Now I want to image at the remote branch offices... was thinking of creating a standalone USB and shipping it to our branch offices.. I dont want to image over the WAN.  Is there documentation on creating a linked deployment?  Do I just need to install WDS (for PXE) at the remote sites locally and create and replicate a linked deployment share?

error with stm_tpm.sys driver in full media instalations

Hi, I´m working with MDT 2010, and creating a new image for Windows XP (I know is old but still works for us).

Installing the server - OK

Creating and Capturing the reference computer - OK

Network deployments - OK

Creating a media for offline deployment - OK

But... when we start a computer (fisical or virtual), in the start of windows PE, it sends the error:

"Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.

file: \windows\system32\drivers\stm_tpm.sys

status 0xc000035a"

we have tried everithing even reinstalling from scratch, but the error still there. something funny, if we boot the x64 Windows PE it works fine (but our deployment is in x86 platform so is not usefull).

Hardware suggestions

Can I use one machine, a notebook, to run MDT and the Virtual Host? I am interested in learning and working with MDT when on my own away from work so this is totally funded by me. Also I know MDT is free but what about Microsoft Hyper V, what is the cost there?

Thanks for any help,

Jon

Sysprep and Capture TS problems

I am trying to capture the image of a reference machine I have in VirtualBox. I am working in MDT 2012. The first pass on this I initiated the process from the CMD window starting the LiteTouch.wsf from in the scripts folder. This worked to a point, sysprep worked, the VM was rebooted but this failed (VirtualBox Manager failure). I restarted the VM and the PE started and got to creating WIM and a very slow agonizing window showing the percent done. It got to 6% and stopped. I did see the WIM file getting built but it only got to about 1.3GB. Next I tried the same VM, after recreating from a backup, and this time tried booting from a LiteTouch CD as I read is preferred in MDT2012. This failed at Sysprep. Below is the failure report.

"Applications Installed" tab - Is it possible to fill list from "Install Application" task sequence?

Hello!

I am using Configuration Manager 2012 with MDT 2012 Update 1.

All of my application installations are done via the "Install Application" task sequence step (some as a list, and some with variable).

I know the "Applications Installed" tab on the summary is specifically for the UDI, but is it possible to fill with applications that were installed using the "Install Application" step instead?

For security reasons we don't want to customize the bootstrap.ini and don't enable auto logon to MDT-Share.

Domain join only works for domain01 because the MDT-Share is configured on a server in that domain. MDT-Share will be accessed by a group of designated users in domain01 which are allowed to join computers to that domain (and are allowed to access the share by NTFS-Security settings too). For all other domains it seems that MDT logon credentials will be passed to the domain join task - settings within cs.ini won't be used.
BDD.log shows some equivalent entries:

Showing MDT Variables in a HTA (Make, Model, Serial etc)

0

I am currently working on a small side project to create a fairly basic OSD HTA for a ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 environment with MDT 2012 integrated.

I have created a HTA with two tabs for options like selecting what language packs to install and what OU to put the domain in etc all by passing variables from the HTA to the task sequence - this all works perfectly well. However, what I also want to do is to add a section to show the computer details on the HTA, like make, model, serial, MAC etc.

I have all the MDT variables that I would require for this and I've also added "Load MDT Toolkit" and "Gather" (only local data) steps before loading the HTA in my ConfigMgr task sequence - the problem I am having is that I do not know what code to add into my HTA to pull the information from the MDT "Gather" command and "show" it in my HTA to the end user/admin.

Could someone help point me in the right direction as I'm sure I'm very close to having this completed!

Thanks in advance...

failed to get the linked token information

Greetings,

I have run command line that executes a vbscript that is giving the following error:

failed to get the linked token information. It may not be available. Error 1312

The script works perfectly and returns a code of zero. The script is running under another account but all that works fine too. I could just ignore that error but I'm curious as to why it is being generated.

Thanks

Winpe and USB drive, can one be mapped?

0

I am creating a reference disk in Virtualbox that is Win7 and customized with the applications I would like for a standard image. I am trying to capture the image using imagex which is being loaded from an iso file. I first tried just writing the wim file to the VMs drive to later copy it to wherever I wanted it. I got to 90% and then it failed because of insufficient disk space. I didn't try writing the wim to a network repository because I already attempted that and the network connections are too slow, something not in my control. Is there a way to get Winpe to recognize a USB hard drive? Alternatively is it perhaps possible to "network" the write of the wim file to a folder on the host computer? I realize this is somewhat a mixed question between MS Winpe and Oracle Virtualbox, I so want to move to HyperV! Thanks for any help :)
