Hello,

please provide a link/links to O2010 deployment scenarios with MDT2012:

1. include O2010 in the image(if doable)

2. post installation

Thanks.

Windows could not parse or process unattended answer file

So I did everything in preparation to deploy the image I captured.  But when I try to deploy the image I made after the disk is formatted and partitioned when the setup process takes place I get the error message Windows could not parse or process unattended answer file c:\windows\panther\unattend.xml for pass [specialize] or setting specified in the answer file does not exist.  What setting in the answer file is it missing?  I looked at a Task Sequence that I know works but I could not find any difference between the two.  I saw many other questions like this but could not find answer

Custom WIM Import - Missing BUILD flag

$

Is there any tool out there that allows me to edit or inject the build information for a WIM from the source that I built the WIM from? The case is this: I've built a deployment that's essentially a hand-off deployment that I want run from the hard drive of laptops we buy from our vendor once they're physically at the location of delivery. What I want to hand our vendor (who also uses MDT) is a WIM capture of the build that they can use MDT to image directly to the hard drive. I don't want to send them a copy of my deployment share (which is significantly larger), just the WIM of the build\content folder. Problem is, MDT won't import the WIM unless it has the BUILD flag present, which tools like GImageX can't edit. Any suggestions?

How to go about things!

Hi,

I have an environment which has SCCM 2007 installed.

This was put in place originally to replace Altiris and to distribute images created by hand on specific machines. The image was built manually, then captured by SCCM and then deployed by SCCM. We also wanted it for its reporting and application deployment capabilities once machines had been pushed out...

This has worked well, but now we are looking at being a bit smarter...

We have already sussed the driver task steps and now have a series of steps for each machine model pointing to their respective driver packages via WMI queries...

Our idea now is to essentially create as few as possible base images which have a series of common applications. Then deploy these images using SCCM and add any missing applications that are unique to a single area as part of the SCCM OSD where they can be done per task sequence to an area. We could have just used a base build of Windows and Office, however we have areas with Visual Studio, and areas with Adobe CS6 etc., so adding these as a task sequence install application step through SCCM would mean the build time would be very long!

We are now using MDT 2012 SP1 (Without WDS/PXE) to attempt to build the images...

So far we have created 5 base image task sequences (Standard Client Task Sequence Template):

All we have done within each sequence is enable the ZTIWindowsUpdate tasks and add in our Install Application tasks.. so essentially each sequence when deployed installs Windows 7 SP1 x86 from original media imported into MDT, then uses ZTIWindowsUpdate, and then installs the applications required by each task sequence automatically... (Any tricky ones without silent installs use AutoIT scripting), then ZTIWindowsUpdate again and it then syspreps and re-captures the image, which we then transfer to SCCM for deployment...

We are using KMS activation.

Due to the sheer volume of Windows Updates after Windows 7 SP1, rebuilding each image is taking a lot of time simply to do this step... Is it OK to create a 6th task sequence which essentially just installs and updates Windows 7 SP1, then syspreps and captures... Then use this image as the base image for the other 5 task sequences rather than installing from scratch and updating each time I need to add something to the image??

I guess what I am having trouble with are some rumours! Firstly because I am using KMS... I am assuming I do not need to worry about the sysprep rearm limit dilemma for reusing images...

My other query is regarding unattend.xml... I have not even touched this file, but I see people mentioning it... I have a large customsettings.ini which has things like

TimeZoneName

KeyBoardLocale etc..

I take it this is being used as the basis for my unattend.xml?

I am not using Audit mode or copying the admin profile to All Users either, simply because I have all this automated within the build itself? Am I missing something with my steps?

.wim deployment from thumb drive - unattend.xml variable computername

I have a functioning WDS server that works great for deployment of Win 7 in our local office. However, I have a couple dozen PCs in remote offices that I will be unable to push the image out to so I was hoping to be able to install off a thumb drive. The install off a thumb drive works fine but only with a static computer name. It fails when I try to use %assettag% in the autounattend.xml. Ideally, I'd like to have a csv with a list of macs and names that the answer file can reference but any solution would be great. Could someone please point me towards a simple resolution for this? Thanks

MDT2012: Deploying in 802.1x secured network possible?

$

Sorry if this is a silly question. I did some search but it is not mentioned anywhere.

I found 802.1x support in WinPE features and how to 'Joining a Wired Client to a Domain' in a 802.1x network in this article.

If I were to enable 802.1x feature in WinPE, rebuild boot image, then start deployment. MDT is supposed to use the credentials in bootstrap.ini to authenticate in wired network. And that's all the work needed, right?

[MDT 2012 U1] Application Bundles are not working

Hello Everyone,

I am experiencing a bug related to Applications Bundle. I cannot add any dependencies (other applications) to a Application Bundle.
When I click on Add it lists all the applications but when I select one and clickOK it comes back to the original screen of the bundle with an empty list.

I tried to restart the mmc, reboot, to add other applications or do it with other bundles but it did the same everytime.

Do you experience this as well ?

It's not blocking but annoying as I have to declare like 10 to 20 tasks in my Task Sequence where 2 Application Bundles could be fine.

Thanks a lot :)

Hi

I have this weird problem

I boot up with windows PE on a memory stick with the litetouch_64.wim. It is booting up normally  and I get an ip adress (checking it by hitting f8 and ipconfig) but after at few seconds just displaying the microsoft splash screen it just restart..

I have the same setup at home deploying the same computer with the same drivers etc. and it is working perfectly.

Is there anyone who can help me with this?

PS I have also tried to format/clean the computer harddrives.

The same problem is happening on all different models that im trying to setup. They all work at home.

Please help.

MDT 2012 Update 1 Local Admin Account Disabled

MDT 2012; applied update 1 and created new deployment share to keep it clean.

Deploys native win7 fine.

Captured a reference computer and deployed the new image (done this successfully many times) and appears to work fine until the reboot when the local administrator account has been disabled.

I assume that is sysprep's default behavior but I though MDT enabled the admin account. Is there a new rule or a work around for this... I have captured our reference computer too many times?

Any tips?

Thanks!

Running commands with credentials_enu.xml credentials

Greetings,

At the beginning of our light touch deployment, it asks for credentials which are obviously stored somewhere.

What I want to do is run a command line in my task sequence using those credentials.

By default it runs a command as the local administrator. I dont want to use the option 'run this step as the following account' as I dont want to hard code it. Can I run a command line using the initially supplied credentials?

Thanks

mdt xml syntax

Greetings,

I am looking to customise credentials_enu.xml and other xml files that are part of the wizard. Does anyone have a link that describes the detailed syntax of all the elements in these xml files? One example is that for the credentials, I want the domain entry to have three options in a drop down list rather than just a general text input field.

Thanks

MDT DriverSelectionProfile importing ALL drivers from profile

$

I'm currently running into an issue where the 2013 MacBook Airs don't image correctly without Apple's USB 3.0 driver, but a number of Dell Optiplexes will bluescreen if they get this specific driver.

We currently run a Chaos configuration for our drivers just because we have to deal with every model of computer made in the last fifteen years.

Does anybody have any ideas for excluding this driver from all but one model of computer?

I attempted to make a driverselectionprofile that included everything but the driver but found that MDT was importing ALL drivers from the driverselectionprofile when it was specified. (Any ideas on this issue?)

Thanks!

For instance, I have two users 1) Sam 2) George.

Under Sam profile, i need  only My documents and My Pictures .

Likewise under George i need only My Videos and My music.

Is it possible to do data backup whatever am selecting under each profile?

If possible let me know your idea/thoughts....

Thanks

Any other way to Pin office icons to Windows 8 x64 taskbar besides scripts

$

Hi,

Does anyone know another way to pin taskbar icons, specifically office icons to a Windows 8 x64 taskbar, we are using mdt 2012 update 1 to deploy windows 8, I know there are scripts out there that can do this, but is their any other way, I tried editing the unattend.xml and set the copyprofile=true and the DoNotCleanTaskBarIcons=true but that does nothing, I did this both on the sysprep and capture TS and the Deploy TS. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bobby

A connection to the deployment share cannot be made. Connection OK. Possible cause: Invalid Credentials.

I'm hoping that someone out there can help me resolve this problem that I am having. I have worked on this for several days now, tring almost anything that I could find in the posts here as well as any other message board.

The problem is this: I am trying to do a PC refresh of an existing XP machine to Windows 7 using the MDT 2010 Update 1 toolkit. I have imported a base OS into the workbench, added applications to the workbench, added out of box drivers, and created a task sequence. I then updated the deployment share.

On the XP machine that I want to "refresh", I have started the LiteTouch.vbs script and it runs through completion in the XP environment. It captures the user state (I opened up Windows explorer and could see files being created under the MiniNT folder of the users profiles) and completes that process and reboots.

Here is where the problem starts. After rebooting and "starting Windows 7", upon getting to the flashy "Microsoft | Solution Accelerators" screen I get a popup error stating "Connection to deployment share (\\servername\DeploymentShare$) cannot be made. Connection OK. Possible cause: Invalid credentials." Then you get three options to Ignore, Abort, Cancel. I believe that the "Ignore" and "Abort" options will put you out into a command window.

So when in that window, I have tried various things to see if I have connectivity as well as the IP settings (just to make sure that I am really communicating on the network). An IPCONFIG/ALL shows that I have indeed pulled a valid IP address from the DHCP server and a ping of the server IP does result in returned traffic. Even a ping by servername returns packets, so it's not a communication problem.

When trying to do a net view servername it returns an "System error 5 occurred Access denied". I don't understand why this is happening since I have the DeploymentShare shared out using the default when the installation created the share "Everyone/Full control" share permissions and the NTFS permissions are "Users, Read, Execute, List, and Special Perm's Create files and folders". The account that I used initially to connect to the share worked just fine as it downloaded all the files to the "refresh" machine without any issues. I even tried creating a local user on the MDT 2010 server and using that account and still no luck.

So if the account that you intially tell MDT 2010 to use to connect to the network shares is ok and working fine, what account is it using to complete this process when it boots into the Windows 7 installation?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me nuts!

Thanks in advance to your suggestions and responses.
