Linked deployment share - removed drivers on master not replicate to slave

$

We are using MDT 2012 and use Linked Deployment Share between two servers. Now I am working to setup proper drivers on master MDT server. I found out that we have newest drivers for audio for specific hardware model and remove it (NOT using force option, cannot use this option, we have about 10 hardware models, some of them use newest audio driver) because does not work properly. The older one works ok. Then I try to replicate to slave server and after successfully replication removed drivers still appear in MDT on slave server

Has anyone know this issue?

What exclusions do I need to use DFS-R to sync deployment shares?

I would much rather use DFS-R for replication due to its bandwidth savings over using linked deployment shares.  That said, I'm assuming that I need exclusions.  Right now, I *think* the \Control\settings.xml file needs to be unique per share. Is that correct?  And if so, are there any other files that should be excluded?

MDT 2012 Prepopulate User Login At End Of Deployment?

$

We has MDT set up to add up to 3 users to the local administrators group.  It is almost always only a single user that gets added.

Is there a way to create a task sequence in a Windows 7 deployment that will take the user that was added to local administrators group and make a registry change that enters that user as last logged in user so that the user does not need to click Switch User (Administrator will show as last user after deployment) before logging in for the first time?

It would be nice to have a script where we could also run a command that asks which user we want to populate as last logged in user and we just enter the uer name there so we don't have to go into the registry GUI and change it manually.

Does anyone know how to do this?

MDT 2012 U1: How to prevent check for existing files in C:\MININT?

$

I am using a task sequence that relies on deployment media placed in C:\minint on our XP systems that upgrades them to Windows 7, while disconnected from the network. Since upgrading to MDT 2012 Update 1, my deployments display the "an existing deployment was found but was not in an expected state" message when booting into Windows 7. This stops the TS. Changing where the deployment media is stored on the XP desktops is not an option due to heavy customization and scripting. I see three possible ways to work around the issue:

1) comment out the line(s) in the scripts that check for existing content in C:\minint

2) comment out the section in ltiapply.wsf that displays the warning prompt for existing deployments

3) revert back to MDT 2012 (without update 1)

I would greatly prefer option 1, but I can't seem to find where the check for existing files in c:\minint is performed. I've been through ltiapply, ztiutility, and several other scripts without any luck. Does anyone else know where in the code this is handled?

PowerShell 3.0 Task Sequence install

I need to install PS 3.0 in the TS.

Using the following command line:

Windows6.1-KB2506143-x64.msu /quiet /norestart

And then force reboot withj MDT

Works fine in the command line. However failing to install with Task Sequence. I keep getting error 2, or error 193.

Cant find what those errors are related to?

Thanks for the help.

One of the monthly packages breaks MDT

Hi

So development of our MDT / Win 7 image had stopped for a few months, but we're back on it now.

Using the existing (and previously working) task sequence, I deployed to a virtual machine.  Within 10 minutes I had a failure:

Windows could not apply unattend settings during pass [offlineServicing]

I tried another brand new task sequence / unattend to no effect.  The issue remained.

So what had I changed since April? Like a good IT professional, the first thing I did before anything was download the latest MSUs from MS catalog and imported them into MDT.

I have just disabled the packages sub-folder that contains the 38 patches for May/June/July and now I can deploy as before.  So now I need to enable each patch one by one and see which may be causing the issue.

Has anyone else come across this behaviour?  Have I done something stupid?  Is there a bug or maybe I just need to re-import the offecding MSU.

Any thoughts out there?

Cheers, Phil

MDT logs say they copy drivers, but cant see it and it does not install

Hi All

Why does my MDT 2012 update 1 never install drivers when I use my customized image? I use the same task sequence and replace the OS with source files from the disk and the drivers install fine.

ZTIDrivers.log shows the drivers being copied but when the ts is done I cannot find C:\Drivers and no drivers is installed.

PLEASE HELP

Alt data stream difference from USMT 4 to USMT 5

Very annoying difference from USMT 4 to 5 - I have files downloaded from the internet, when using scanstate to migrate the data those files are missing in the data store, replaced by folders containing the file and a $Zone.Identifier$$DATA file.  If I unblock the file then run scanstate this does not happen.  And again, this only happens with USMT 5.0, I ran the same set of options with USMT 4.0 and the files were fine.  This is being run from the online OS, not in a domain environment, from an account with admin privileges.

I have tried all of the command line options I can think of to make this not happen, and looked in the XML files but can't seem to find a solution.  I built a front end to USMT to be used for data backup purposes, so my solution to this problem needs to be something that can be set via command line or XML so it works from any machine that runs the tool.

Thanks for any suggestions!  (besides sticking with USMT 4  :P )

Drivers not loading in windows Vista, MDT 2012 update 1

Upgraded to MDT 2012 update 1 (from MDT 2012)

Upgraded to WADK (used waik before)

Windows Vista task sequences push my base image down and go through setup process. Once booted into Vista, task sequence stops due to no network driver (an other drivers) installed.

Checked C:\drivers. all drivers for this system are there and manually installing them from here works.

Recreated My Vista custom wim. Imported it. Created new task sequence. add only driver group. push down. Same issue.

Edited custom wim to add c:\drivers to DevicePath to registry. Same issue.

unattend file also has path \Drivers

Windows 7/8 task sequences are working fine

For some reason imaging with MDT 2012 update 1 drivers are not being found by Vista.

How to copy drivers from a Windows 7 Pro laptop to use for MDT2012 Out-of-box driver import

$

I am working with MDT2012 Update and I am deploying images to Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E531 laptops. The Lenovo driver download site has worked fine for all of the drivers I needed except for the wireless LAN adapter. With that driver, they give you a setup.exe file that I can't seem to be able to extract the files from. If I run the setup.exe, it will install the working drivers on the laptop, but I want to import the drivers into the Out-Of-Box section of my MDT2012u1 Workbench.

I can see the file names and locaitons in .\system32 and .\system32\drivers where the actual files are installed if I look at the driver details on the laptop after having run the setup.exe file.

I tried just copying those files to a disk and importing them into MDT2012u1 but since I lacked an INF file, they didn't import.

Does the INF file get copied to the laptop when the driver is installed? If so, can I just grab the driver files and the INF, put them in a folder and then be able to import them into MDT2012u1?

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

MDT 2012 - pull computername from database

Hi

I have read most of the posts on Technet regarding this but havent found an answer...

I have a database setup using TCPIP (cant use named pipes in my envrionment). It is populated with my test PC (serial No, MAC, UUID and Description).

Here is my cs.ini:

We only do Rebuilds here, no refreshes run from desktop. All of our images are triggered by PXE. I need a way to pull the computer name from the database, based on the UUID/MAC/Serial whatever, into the build. I have tried the above with my TS and it always gets called MININT-XXXXX no matter what. I have also tried to set the task sequence variable OSDCOMPUTERNAME to %computername%, but this doesnt seem to work either.

Win7/8 - How-to Create ISO Image of Windows 7SP1/8 with Office 2013 and Skype Integrated Into One DVD

$

Hi there!

We need to create an bootable ISO or (USB is a less preferable option) which should include bare-metal installation of Windows 7 SP1/8, installation of Office 2013 and Skype. This ISO should be able to allow users to perform the following operations:

  1. Install Windows 7/8, Office 2013 and Skype to the users' bare-metal computers from one ISO (or USB).
  2. Users are able to configure Windows 7/8, Office 2013 and Skype during installation, but they need to have all on one disk if it is possible.
  3. Users will have various models of computers, but all of them have 1 physical disk which is split in 2 logical disks (partitions). Logical disk C: is at least 100 GB. There is no boot manager planned to be used.
  4. Does not include any updates which will be installed by users later.
  5. Installation should not join the computer to the domain. Users will be joining the computers later manually.

Questions:

  1. Which tools need to be used? The links to the installation guides, if available, would be highly appreciated.
  2. Is the process similar for Windows SP1 and Windows 8?

Thank you very much for your time and attention in advance!

MDT with WDS PXE Booting: Can you boot both x86 and x64 by choice?

$

I have managed to get MDT to work with WDS PXE boot with x64 images.

All of our hardware is x64 capable, but we need to sometimes deploy 32-bit Windows XP even though the hardware supports 64-bit.  If WDS is "detecting" the hardware architecture, it would always detect 64-bit and we cannot have that if we are not going to use an x64 OS on that specific system.

Is there any way to set this up so WDS has both boot images available and you are given a menu choice so you can choose whether it will PXE boot into x86 or x64 mode on a case by case basis?

MDT 2012 Imaging think centre M72e

I am using MDT 2012 to image PCs with windows XP.   Reason for XP is our software will not work with windows 7 as of now.

This is my setup.  I have server 2012 with MDT 2012  and WDS install on it.   This server is off the network,  and is in itis own work group called MDT2012.

Client computer the I am imaging is a Thinkcentre M72e.

The client PC does a network boot to MDT2012  just fine.  I am able to start the deployment at this point.   Once Xp is loaded it boots into the desktop to install programs needed.   I get a wizard error.  Error states," A connection to the deployment share could not be made.  No networking devices were found on this machine.  Once I reinstall the drivers for the network I can continue deployment.  I have the Network driver in the MDT 2012.  I also Have other drivers like video and sound. Those transferred fine. No problems.  The Nic driver did not.

The Nic Driver is a realtek driver.  Could you tell me how to fix this?  Since I reinstalled the driver I think I have to do that in the MDT?  Has anyone ran into this with the Thinkcentre M72e before?

Any Ideas?

Windows could not parse or process unattended answer file [C:\Windows\Panther\unattend.xml] for pass [specialize]. The answer file is invalid.

After capturing a Windows 7 reference image, the machine reboots, goes through sysprep, and then I get the message below.  If I take the captured image and assign it to a deployment task, I'm able to deploy it to a machine with no issue.  I've just never seen this error before, and I was wondering if I should be worried about it?

"Windows could not parse or process unattended answer file [C:\Windows\Panther\unattend.xml] for pass [specialize].  The answer file is invalid.".  If I were to press ok, it will just reboot into the same message.  Any ideas on why this is happening?

Copy credentials to domain join properties

Greetings,

At the beginning of the MDT process, credentials are gathered and stored in the properties - username, userpassword and userdomain.

When the "recover from domain" step runs post install, I want to use these credentials. So how do I copy username to domainadmin, userdomain to joindomain and domainadmindomain and userpassword to domainadminpassword please?

Also, I would like to use the userdomain property as part of the target OU e.g.

MachineObjectOU=OU=Staging,DC=%userdomain%,DC=acme,DC=com ??? Is this possible?

Thanks

Intermittent "Failed to show task sequence progress dialog. Error code 0x80070534" error on Windows XP Task Sequence

$

Hi all,

This is officially driving me mad! On my Windows XP Task Sequence I am intermittently seeing these errors in thesmsts log and the Task Sequence progress dialogue box doesn't from the point of booting back up into Windows. Another symptom is that I'm guessing because there is no progress box, my Application scripts run but fail with a non-zero1618 return code error.

If anyone has seen this before or has any idea's I would be mega grateful for suggestions. I have tried as much logical 'trial and error' testing I can think of, different makes/models/drivers/network ports/network switches/VLAN's the lot!

Thank you in advance for your time.

James
